In this week’s Inside Athletics, Dave and James discuss how the fall teams are doing after one week and what lies ahead this weekend.  Dave also talks about the busyness of the fall as many of the other sports have their off-season practices. President Loren Swartzendruber addresses a gathered community of more than 850 in Lehman Auditorium to open the academic year.

Michael A. King,Vice President and Dean of  Eastern Mennonite Seminary, offers the address in this Fall Convocation chapel gathering in the seminary.  His message is titled,  “A Bible as big as the Universe”.

EMU President, Dr. Loren Swartzendruber, delivers the morning Sermon during the orientation weekend Sunday morning worship.  Several student Pastoral Assistants also share short stories about  where they have experienced welcome.

New students and parents receive greetings and words of welcome from Orientation staff, Campus Ministries, Multicultural Services, and new VP for Enrollment, Dr. Luke Hartman.

This week, Dave talks with Susan Kolb, women’s soccer head coach and Assistant Athletic Director for Student Athlete Well-being.  This podcast begins the weekly format and Dave introduces one of the new head coaches for the fall season.  Besides talking soccer and coaching philosophy, they explain the new efforts this year on increasing our athlete retention rates.  Supported by an NCAA grant, Sue will be responsible for class attendance and educational programming for all athletes and academic tracking and support for all freshmen athletes. Recently returned from his sabbatical, President Swartzendruber addresses the Faculty and Staff on Thursday morning during the Faculty/Staff Conference in August, 2011.

Douglas and Rhonda Jacobsen continue on the theme,  “Walk Boldly…,”  by responding to questions submitted by EMU faculty and staff at the annual Fall Conference.  Rhonda and Jake are currently co-authoring their third book, The New Soul of the American University.  Much of the content for their address comes from their work and research for this book.
