Throughout her 30 plus year nursing career, Phyllis has practiced in a variety of emergency services, acute care and long term care settings. Dr. Quinlan has held senior leadership positions in administration and education in emergency services, acute care and long term care facilities in the Greater New York area and its suburbs. Lorie A. Brown graduated from Indiana University school of nursing with a BSN in 1982. She then attended the University of California at Los Angeles school of nursing and obtained a master's degree. She actively practiced nursing for twelve years in various areas such as medical-surgical nursing, gynecology, urology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, general surgery and home health care. Ms. Brown then attended Indiana University school of law and obtained her J.D. in 1990. After law school, Ms. Brown was employed at the Department of Insurance defending the interests of the Patient's Compensation Fund. For the next six years, Ms. Brown defended physicians and hospitals for medical malpractice. Ms. Brown now focuses her practice on assisting plaintiff attorneys with medical issues in their cases. Because of her defense experience, she looks at cases with a critical eye and because of her relationship with hundreds of physicians throughout the state, she is able to locate expert witnesses in several different specialties.

The Healthier Hospitals Initiative (HHI) is a national campaign to implement a completely new approach to improving environmental health and sustainability in the health care sector. Eleven of the largest, most influential U.S. health systems, comprising over 475 hospitals with more than $20 billion in purchasing power, worked with Health Care Without Harm (HCWH), the Center for Health Design and Practice Greenhealth to create HHI as a guide for hospitals to reduce energy and waste, choose safer and less toxic products, and purchase and serve healthier foods. With these eleven sponsoring systems as anchors, the initiative will enroll at least 2,000 hospitals in 50 states and the District of Columbia over the next three years to implement sustainable operations, and will measure the impact on improved patient, worker and community health and reduced costs. As a comprehensive, sector-wide initiative, HHI is fully consistent with and builds upon the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Triple Aim – Better Health, Better Care and Lower Costs, and will institute frameworks and implementation tools that can be used by every healthcare facility in the nation, for no charge.
