Susan Strauss RN Ed.D. is an international speaker, trainer and consultant. Her specialty areas include organization development, leadership development, and bullying and harassment.   Susan conducts bullying and harassment investigations, works as an expert witness for harassment and bullying lawsuits, and coaches managers and employees that need assistance in stopping their harassing or bullying behavior.   She has worked as an RN in the OR, pediatrics, med-surg, psychiatry, and public health. She has also been director of quality improvement, director of education and development, and other leadership roles. She researched physician abuse to RNs in the OR to determine if the abuse varied based on the gender of the nurse.

Lisa Sams is the owner and founder of Clinical Linkages, Inc, a consultation and training company that assists organizations in achieving their goals for use of evidence-based practice. She has more than thirty years of experience as a clinician, practicing in both clinical and academic settings, practice manager with an NICHD research project, and directing practice for a national association prior to starting her own business. She has authored both textbook chapters and journal articles and presented her work nationally. Her Clinical Work Assessment Blueprint© has been presented at the American College of Health Care Executives Congress, Agency for Health Quality and Research conference, Translating Research into Practice, American Organization of Nurse Executives. Lisa's new emphasis is engaging patients and families in best care through the use of evidence so they can be proactive members of their care team. The first “tool” is a guidebook, "Your Hospital Care: Expect the Best". Internet and mobile applications are on the horizon. Lisa learned first hand that change offers opportunity, with 23 relocations in 29 years of her husband’s Air Force career. She enjoys jogging, biking and pilates as well as a good book and experimenting with recipes.

"I Wasn't Strong Like This When I Started Out: True Stories of Becoming A Nurse", is the latest non-fiction collection of stories published by In Fact Books. We will be discussing the book--and the power of storytelling by nurses--with the editor and several featured authors. Lee Gutkind (editor) is founder and editor of the literary magazine Creative Nonfiction and has written and edited books about baseball, health care, travel, and technology. He is currently Distinguished Writer in Residence at the Consortium for Science, Policy and Outcomes and a professor in the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication, both at Arizona State University. Pamela Baker received her MFA in creative writing from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, where she currently works as a nurse. Her nonfiction has been published in The Journal, Bayou Magazine, and Cream City Review.Patricia A. Nugent is the author of They Live On: Saying Goodbye to Mom and Dad, a compilation of vignettes portraying the stages of caring for and saying good-bye to a loved one. Her work has been published in national professional journals, and she has received awards (including one bestowed by Susan Sontag) for her creative nonfiction essays.

Renee Thompson has more than 20 years of experience encompassing clinical practice, education, and executive leadership across the continuum of care. Renee is the author of “ 'Do No Harm' Applies to Nurses Too! Strategies to protect and bully-proof yourself at work." She speaks nationwide to healthcare organizations and academic institutions motivating her audience at keynote addresses, professional conferences, workshops, and seminars.     Her presentations and seminars focus on improving clinical and professional competence, eliminating nurse-to-nurse bullying, effective communication and leadership, building a positive and healthy workplace, and nurturing a culture of respect.

Linda Bark PhD, RN, MCC, NC-BC pioneered new professional pathways by starting a private nursing practice in 1970, bringing holistic nursing to hospitals, working as a holistic coach in the 80s, and consulting nationwide to start up holistic healing centers in the 90s. She continues to teach integral coaching work in her private practice as an integral life/health/business coach. Her coaching manual, The Wisdom of the Whole, won first place in 2012 in the category of Professional Development by the American Journal of Nursing. Whether she's leading a medical tour to China or offering coach training Playshops, nothing makes her happier than to co-create experiences that empower people and help them feel a sense of ease, fun

During this National Nurses Week episode of RN.FM Radio, we will be joined by Susan Sullivan, BSN, MSN, who serves as the Secretary for the National Nursing Network Organization (NNNO). Susan Sullivan recently retired after more than 45 years in nursing, the final 20 of which were in Public Health.   After completing her BSN at California State University, Los Angeles and her MSN at Loma Linda University, Susan worked for 10 years as Nursing Supervisor in a large acute hospital and taught nursing at Long Beach City College.   During the latter half of her nursing career, Susan worked in public health where her leadership experiences in the acute hospital and teaching helped prepare her for the challenges she found in community nursing. An accomplished nurse with a career focus on public health, Susan will speak with us specifically about the campaign to create the position of a National Nurse for Public Health within the Public Health Service. We will discuss the bill that is now before Congress (HR 485), the legislators who are supporting the bill, and how you can become involved and support this exciting campaign!

She also writes a weekly blog about creativity and nursing for TheONC.org, an online community of oncology professionals. Her stories, Icarus Again and Voyagers appear in the anthology New Lives: Nurses' Stories about Caring for Babies, Kaplan Publishing, New York. An essay, The Wisdom of Nursery Rhymes, was published in the Reflections column of the American Journal of Nursing in February, 2011. BlogHer has featured, "Of Med Errors and Brain Farts,” a JParadisiRN post. She has appeared as a guest on Doctors Radio, and Radio MD. J. Paradisi RN, OCN finds inspiration where science, humanity, and art converge.  A nurse for twenty-six years, she has worked in Pediatric Intensive Care and Neonatal Intensive Care, before transitioning to Adult Oncology. She lives with her husband David, in Portland, Oregon.

Join us for a roundtable discussion with three members of the board of the American College of Nurse Midwives. We'll be speaking with: Holly Powell Kennedy, the President of ACNM and professor of midwifery at Yale University Lorrie Kline Kaplan, ACNM Executive Director Michelle Grandy, ACNM Board member and practicing midwife at the Midwives Clinic at Northwest Hospital. The purpose of Our Moment of Truth™ is to improve women’s health and maternity care in the United States by re-introducing midwives and midwifery care as important options that should be the norm for women’s health care services.    

Susan Katz Sliski is a newly minted Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). She has four decades of nursing experience including critical care, case management, occupational health, international health consulting, and healthcare innovation consulting. Presently, she serves at a national level for the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN) as the Co-Chair of the International Committee for Best Practices.  Susan is an adjunct faculty member at Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts, teaching advanced research. She is also a full time consultant at a startup company involved in building the next generation of wireless patient monitoring and informatics devices.
