With that in mind, why do so many men resist doing anything for the woman they are dating (or married to) on Valentine's Day? Young Black women are suffering from depression due the fact that they are single and unloved. Stories abound about the many young Black women go through four years of college with less than five dates. All women have the right to control their fertility in the U.S. However, this was not always the case. And there is a contingent of Black men that resent and attack Planned Parenthood as being a racist organization started by Margaret Sanger, a woman who they believe promoted the death of Black babies and the elimination of the Black race.  Our discussion tonight will revolve around the recent decision (and reversal)  by the Susan G. Vanessa and Kobe Bryant reached a settlement in their divorce earlier this week. She will receive three Southern California mansions and $75 million in cash. Folks are UPSET that Kobe's wife of ten years should get that kind of money when she hasn't done anything but "pop out babies" and "get her hair and nails done."  The loudest complaints are coming from the Black community, with comparisons being made about Vanessa's race, as was done about Elin Woods. Basically, the angry voices are saying that if these women were Black, they would never have received such generous and quick settlement offers.  Let's talk about this case and the many others involving wealthy men and their divorces. Is there a difference in how we perceive the value of the marriage and of his wife if a man is poor vs. if he is wealthy? Is there a difference in how we perceive the value of the wife's services if she is Black vs. non-black? Has marriage outlived its usefulness for women except as a method of capital gains? With Black men rejecting religion and the commitments of marriage and family, why the interest in and push for polygynous marriages? Black men across the country repeatedly state that monogamy is counter to their nature and that through marriage, women attempt to control male sexuality. Other men say that polygamous unions would be a way to resolve the issue of high rate of single black women in the U.S., and to ensure that children have fathers around. When a man and a woman participate in consensual sex, and the woman ends up pregnant, does the man who impregnated her have any say-so in what happens with the pregnancy? There is a growing group of men and women that believe men should have a say if they don't want to parent a child, and should be able to "abort" themselves financially from any responsiblity to the child if the mother insists on having it. Men say they want the same options women have when it comes to birthing a child. Yet, over the course of human existence men have repeatedly abandoned women and children in droves, often to move on and start entirely new families with other women. That's the man's option. Women have different options, including not bringing a pregnancy to term. Men and women both have choices, their choices are just different. Many say the solution is "if a man does not want to accept that the woman has the final say in the matter of whether or not to carry a pregnancy to term then he should not be having sex with her, simple as that."
