Lum and Abner – Squire Sues Lum and Abner for the Pearl Ownership. 470127 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 10:46

With the run on oysters, and hopes to find a pearl, Lumburgers have been forgotten by the citezens of Pine Ridge. Cedric learns all about it. Will he eat any oysters, or just poke them around in hopes of finding his own pearl. With the oyster supply depleted, Cedric leaves and is replaced by Doc Withers. With a willing ear to listen, Abner tells Doc all about the argument between Squire, grandpap, and Lum over the recently discovered pearl. To distract Abner from the drama, Doc recounts an article he found in the almanac about sloths. Doc also has some mail and telegrams, and manages to skim over topics to maximize the affect of Abner’s confusion. When Lum enters, will he have any new word to resolve the tension over the pearl? What new hotels will be demanding the Lumburger recipe? That notice from the county seat doesn’t seem to want any Lumburgers though.

Burns and Allen – Convincing William Boyd To Retire. 490505 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:33

Burns and Allen – Convincing William Boyd To Retire. 490505. Featuring Hopalong Cassidy, also called Bill Boyd. George laments about being on television, but Gracie encourages him. George doesn’t think he can compete with the youth and beauty on the tube. Gracie gets the idea of being more like a cowboy, like Hopalong. Maybe if Gracie can convince Hopalong to retire, George will be able to take his place. George makes Gracie a little jealous over an old girlfriend before she goes to Hopalong Cassidy’s house. Gracie tries to lay on the Texas cowgirl act with their guest, but gets some of her ideas mixed up. Will she get Hoppy to decide to retire? Hoppy gets a kick out of Gracie, but isn’t falling for her request. Instead he has some ideas of his own for George to break into his upcoming movie. Hopalong goes to talk to George about Gracie’s attempt, but there’s stil a few good topics of misunderstanding for the two gents to talk about. Hopalong thinks that George is talking about a hortse, but it’s his old girlfriend, Trixie, that Gracie had been jealous of. The surprising sounding act that George brags about is something that Hopalong wants to include in his next movie, and wants George to arrange to do it for him. Gracie is thrilled to hear that George will be in Hopalongs next film, but not happy at all to know it will be with Trixie. Gracie goes to ask Bill Goodwin for help in taking Trixie out of the picture. When Hopalong stops over to talk to George about the film, Gracie tries to intervene, but Hoppy still thinks Trixie is a horse. Gracie has conspired with Bill Goodwin, but will it fool George? Or just lead into a comercial? Hoppy discovers that Trixie isn’t a horse, so George proves that he can sing, and though Gtracie is charmed by him, Hopalong may be less so.

Mr. Keen, Tracer of Lost Persons – The King Cobra Murder Case. 500504 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:27

The scene opens on an ocean liner as it returns to New York harbor, when a woman in a cabin is bitten. Her silent cabin mate just watches her die from the venom. Later in Mr Keen’s office, the sister of the dead woman tells all she knows. The dead woman, her sister, was breaking it off with a boyfriend who took it badly and began stalking her. To get away, she took the cruise to Europe. The sister went to meet the dead woman in England, and cruise back with her. While in England, she also met up with her new boyfriend, and all took the cruise home together. Though her stalking boyfriend was on his best behavior on ship, there was an altercation near the end. Evidence seems to indicate thatthe boyfriend knew about snakes, and how to handle them. The sister is forthcoming with a ton of evidence, almost too much if you ask me. Mr Keen agrees to investigate, and try to find the missing boyfriend. Mike Clancey and Mr Keen are at least smart enough to know that it just as well could be a jealous sister as a jealous boyfriend. Mr Keen and Mike go to talk to the distraught current boyfriend, when suddenly the former boyfriend, Frank, enters in a rage and kills the new boyfriend. Or at least tries to if not for Mike Clancey interfering. Frank isn’t painting a nice pictre of himself, but when Mr Keen suggests that he turn himself in, I think he may already be forming doubts. A news paper is delivered to announce that a homocidal maniac who killed two people in London is being sought after. Audio keeps cutting in and out through these middle parts, and to the end. Mr Keen learns more about the character of Frank, and goes to see what he can find out about that aledged maniac. Frank agrees to sit behind bars, but Mr Keen plays his hunch and keeps investigating. He stumbles on some information and orchestrates a trap to force the real killers temper to flare up. When the drama reaches it’s highest, Mr Keen springs from his hiding place in the closet, and exposes all the details as he puts the finger on the killer.

Lum and Abner – Lum, Abner, Squire, and Grandpap All Claim the Pearl. 470123 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 10:48

Lum reviews the story thus far about how grandpap found a pearl in the oyster, and the inconclusive nature of who exactly can lay claim to it. For now it’s in the possession of Lum and Abner, but the battle for the precious gem is still to be determined. Telegrams from swanky places across the country continue to come in, and Lum shares a few as they ask for his Lumburger recipe. Squire enters to demand the pearl, but the heated words fly when grandpap bursts into the room to demand it as well. Doc Withers offers himself as a neutral party to act as mediator in the matter. Doc tries to gather the facts in a cool headed manner. He’s calm enough and manages to settle the storm, but is his fact finding mission actually helping? In the vain of Fibber and Molly working a slow burn out of Mayor Latrivia, Doc manages to get under Squire’s skin.

Fibber McGee and Molly – Wistful Vista Auto Show. 371011 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:51

After Ted Weems gives the musical opening, and commercial from Harlow Wilcox, Fibber tinkers with his old car. If it’s left to Molly, she thinks they should give up on the old jalopy, and just get a new car. Jokes about cars, politics, and more are tossed around. Ted Weems plays a swinging version of, Ain’t She Sweet. Molly has her way, and the couple are at the auto show to shop for the latest and greatest in cars. The normaly fast talking Fibber meets a slick talking car salesman or two. Perry Como sings, Cabin of Dreams. (at least I think they announced Perry Como. There were a host of singers, and several orchestras in the early years. Especially while the show was still based in Chicago, rather than California.) Although Fibber keeps insisting that he likes his old car, he swaps jokes with more salesmen. He also brags about being, “Honk Honk McGee.” They run into Nick Deppopolus, who talks about his wife, and car shopping. New features of automobiles are demonstrated, but I don’t think Fibber is impressed. Ted Weems is back to play a tune. The McGee’s are back home where they expect a salesman to pop in to appraise their old car. Instead, they get a visit from Teeny. For some reason she thinks Fibber is a baseball player. Horatio K Boomer pops in for the car appraisal. Ted Weems plays a lead into a commercial to wrap up the show. Note: In early shows Fibber sort of sounds older. If you’ve ever heard their first show called, “Smack Out,” he almost seems to be doing a version of the old man in that show. Later, the Old Timer will be introduced, and I think Fibber began to be portrayed a little younger as the Old Timer took over the role for the old jokes. But that’s just my take on the issue.

 Nightwatch – Peanut Butter Part 1. 540510 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:30

Repeat of Nightwatch 540503 E003 Glass Breaker.

 Richard Diamond – Ralph Chase Case. ep4, 490515 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:32

Get ready to take down all the clues from start to finish. Dick Diamond deals with a classic murder and cover up. A wealthy family, a body buried in the garden, and a host of suspicious characters. Dick Diamond provides color commentary, and in voiceover he paints a vivid portrait of the crime scene. Bodies pile up, and Dick gets rough after he’s the recipient of a little thumping of his own. Isn’t it about time the cops are called in to do their job? With Dick applying a little muscle, he controls the evidence, the suspects, which keeps getting easier when the killer hasn’t learned when to stop, and the choices for the killer get slimmer. PS: I’ll bet Miss Scarlet did it in the conservatory with a pistol. Er maybe it was Professor Plum, in the kitchen with a knife… No wait! It was Colonel Mustard with a… with a… Oh heck, just listen and you try to guess. Oh, and Richard croons to his girlfriend with, I Got My Love to Keep Me Warm.

Lum and Abner – Grandpap Finds a Pearl in an Oyster. 470122 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 10:30

It’s oyster shucking time in the Meadowlark Restaurant, and Lum’s salesmanship of his oysters has him almost tempted to try one of his own tasty treats. The thought of eating them raw still manages to keep both Lum and Abner away from them though. Doc Ben Withers makes the rounds today to deliver telegrams that request the world famous Lumburger recipe. Grandpap enters to tell that he’s quitting as Lum’s secretary to sell insurance for Squire Skimp. Will Abner heed the warnings of the scripted insurance spiel? Squire enters, but will he be the one to try Lum’s oysters on the half shell? While everyone avoids them, Squire loves them, then grandpap discovers he bit into a pearl. Does the fact that he sent it away make it the property of Lum and Abner now? Since Squire hasn’t paid for his meal yet, will he have any legal claim to it? Stay tuned to see how this story plays out. I feel a raging court battle coming on.

Her grief turns into rage against Matt as she swears that she’ll hire her own gunman against the lawman. Matt tries to play it cool, but his nerves soon are tweaked into being high strung. The first attempt is a drive by shooting… er make that a horse ride shooting. Matt shoots the kid in self defense, and as he is being mended in doc’s office Matt goes to confront him face to face. Matt is prepared to defend himself, but the death of the 15 year old boy drives him to confront the old widow. Matt’s more worried about the people he may have to kill that he otherwise wouldn’t have to. If only the old woman would realize her part in the expected killing. Will she be convinced to take down her reward posters, and call off the potential gunmen? Nope, she’s still too bitter and selfish. Matt is warey of any stragglers on the street, and would be killers. Jailing them when he can, but taking no mercy in defending himself from those who would shoot him down. The old hardened widow tries to bargain with matt, and make him leave Dodge. What will it take to bring her to reason? Another widow rides to town looking for her boy. Little does she know that her son was the first one to be gunned down. It’s just the thing to soften the widow’s heart.
