Episode-1192- Mike Haigwood on Mix Species Grass Based Dairy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:29:50

TweetA Happy and Healthy Jersey Cow at the P.A. Bowman Farmstead Mike Haigwood is currently the manager of  the P.A. Bowen Farmstead a mixed species dairy operation run by Sally Fallon.  Sally Fallon (who will be on TSP next week)  is the co-founder of the Weston A. Price Foundation along with nutritionist Mary G. Enig Mike grew up in rural Iowa three generations removed from Agriculture. He had an average childhood but always loved the outdoors.  Fast forward, he graduated 1986, tried college but didn’t like it, quit after one semester then started working. Mike then got a chance to work for a guy who started his own traditional lawn care business as a partner in the company, while short lived it started him down a new path. Mike then started school at Penn State University in 1990, got married and had a son and then graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor in Horticulture. He then moved to Mosurris working in the Kansas City area as a Landscape Designer for a Garden Center Chain. With the birth of his daugher and new concerns for nutrition his awakening began.  So in 1995 they moved back to Iowa started their own businesses lawn care, garden produce but ended up closing the business in 97.  In this short time Mike learned a lot about marketing, or the lack of it! At this point he started homesteading, homeschooling, and following the practices in the book Nourishing Traditions (by Sally Fallon) and began interning in the world of agriculture.  In time that led to “bootlegging raw milk” from their own farm.  While successful they grew tired of the dogma around conventioinal agriculture still present in the Midwest. So in 2009 they decided to move east and pursue alternative farming practices. He and his wife (Barb) met Sally Fallon at a conference in 2010 and asked if she knew anyone that could use a management team for their farm.  Her response was, “send me your resume” and now today the whole family is working on Sally’s Farm P.A. Bowen Farmstead.  Episode-1191- Holy Crap I Just Found Out Everything Isn’t Super – Part 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:17:25

TweetToday we continue our focus on things you can do to move from totally unprepared to basically prepared as a first stage of insuring your future.  While these steps are dramatically simple and won’t make you bullet proof they will get you through 90% of the disasters that might come you way. These initial steps then form an effective building platform as you build up for the 10% of disasters that are less likely but have larger impact scales. If you are new to prepping I suggest you listen to part one of this series first and use the below referenced episodes as more information on getting started, calming fears and getting your plans organized. Episode-1166- The Fundamental Mentality of Modern Survivalism Episode-848- Modern Survival Philosophy Episode-474- Disaster Probability, Impact and Commonality Episode-370- Situational Awareness vs Normalcy Bias With those three episodes on your side you will be well on the way to understanding how to formulate your own plan based on your own needs based on your own risk tolerance. Today I will continue on the work we did yesterday, finishing off with some more thoughts on security, then move on to health and sanitation and from there wrap things up with developing financial security.  Episode-1190- Holy Crap I Just Found Out Everything Isn’t Super – Part 1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:06:50

TweetMy intern Josiah of the newly launched Brink of Freedom Community suggested today that I should re do an older show that I haven’t done in a while.  Perhaps modern survival philosophy or similar.  He pointed out that many folks will show up in the Zello Channel and you can tell they have no knowledge of TSP Core Philosophy. However, I don’t like to overdue “reruns” so today I am going to focus on the mentality of new preppers and survivalists, how to get your head on strait and begin a solutions based system.  That said I am going to recommend several past episodes (one quite recent) for new preppers and modern survivalists to develop the core knowledge necessary to build a truly resiliant life.  They are Episode-1166- The Fundamental Mentality of Modern Survivalism Episode-848- Modern Survival Philosophy Episode-474- Disaster Probability, Impact and Commonality Episode-370- Situational Awareness vs Normalcy Bias With those three episodes on your side you will be well on the way to understanding how to formulate your own plan based on your own needs based on your own risk tolerance. Today I will expand on these three core episodes.  I will discuss what happens in the mind of the person who suddenly realizes things are not as safe as they appear.  What “first exposure” feels like, which will be helpful for many who have forgotten.  I will also discuss how to rein in this fear and this feeling of exposure and channel it instead into productive motivation.  Episode-1187- Kerry Davis of Dark Angel Medical | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:03:20

TweetKerry Davis of Dark Angel Medical Kerry Davis founder of Dark Angel Medical, has been taking care of people more than half of his adult life. Born and raised in Mississippi, he joined the US Air Force in 1991 and trained as a medic, working in an ER, then moving on to special duty with the only Tac Evac unit in the active USAF.  In that station he was a flight medic and an Aircrew Training instructor. That duty station gave Kerry the opportunity to go to the U.S. Army’s Airborne school and work with Airborne units at Pope AFB and Ft. Bragg.  After leaving North Carolina, he moved to Maxwell AFB, AL, where he instructed several thousand new Air Force officers at Officer Training School’s Medical Readiness Indoctrination Course at Gunter AFB Annex over a two and a half year period. Kerry also taught, during his tenure in the USAF, ACLS, PALS, BCLS and Paramedic Cardiology. During that time he worked as a paramedic and after separation from the Air Force, he completed his training and certification as an RN.  He has now been in the Critical Care and ER field since 2003. He separated from the Reserves in 2007. He is an avid shooter and has instructed with Magpul Dynamics.  Today he is currently an adjunct instructor with SIG Sauer Academy where he teaches weapons manipulation as well as “Bullets and Bandages”. Kerry joins us today to discuss his simplified lightweight medical kits that are designed to do one thing, save lives.  Along with his training program and thoughts on why every prepper needs these skills.  The best part of this interview is it led to quite deep discussions including why “treating the whole patient” is important even in critical care situations.  Episode-1186- Joel Ryals on Raising the Next Generation of Men | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:10:37

TweetJoel Ryals of Dunetos K-9 Today I am joined by Joel Ryals of Dunetos K-9.  Joel has been on TSP before to discuss how he trains dogs and how dogs can play an important role for the prepper.  While that was a great interview that you can hear at this link, today’s show is far more important. Today Joel joins us to discuss his new training program know as the Dunetos Training Program.  According to Mr. Ryals “In 1960, 70% of young men showed maturity by the age of 30.  The opposite is true today.  By the age of 30, some 70% of young men are not ‘grown up’ and the trend is only accelerating.  Dunetos Training Programs (DTP) was established to meet this critical need.“ Joel’s training program takes young men though a variety of leadership, wilderness, tactical and adversity based skill sets.  The goal is to produce men that can be the leaders our society needs them to be.  Men who will raise children in the same manner, be solid husbands, entrepreneurs and warriors for liberty and freedom.  Episode-1185- 15 Perennial Herbs with Medicinal Uses | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:06:41

TweetSoapwort is a Highly Useful but Little Known Herb Today I thought we would do a bit of a different type of show.  For those new to herbal healing my 4 shows on “herbal actions” might be helpful.  I will use many words today like alterative and styptic.  When I do I will explain the basics of what they mean but if you really know the 40 primary herbal actions the world of herbal healing become a fascinating science and one we may really depend on some day. Additionally I have provided a link to seed sources for all of these seeds.  All links go to a company called Sand Mountain Herbs.  They have many things no one else seems to have.  If you order please note when you do you hear about them at TSP from Jack Spirko, I would very much like to establish a relationship with these guys.  I have ordered many times from them and gotten great service. They are however currently out of stock with comfrey seeds and comfrey is best done with root cuttings.  So I have a link there to Coe’s Comfrey.  I ordered a lot of plants, they were very back ordered and took over a month to ship.  However the owner called, left me a wonderful voice message to apologize, sent me extra plants and some free DVDs to apologize.  Stellar service and product.  If you order there know they may get really back ordered after today and be patient and again let them know who you learned about them from.  Episode-1182- Xavier Hawk on Ecovillages and Permaculture Homesteading | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:15:35

TweetThe Hawk Clan Building a Yurt Xavier Hawk is a homesteading volunteer firefighter/EMT who is semi retired  from the not so glamorous world of business consulting. He is also a prepper who has gone from living in suburbia to the rural mountains of Western North Carolina where he and his family are developing their Homestead into a self sufficient Eco Village Neighborhood that hosts skills retreats and workshops. Xavier has kept a bug out bag since the age of 14, led wilderness trips as a guide for Outward Bound and others, teaches and practices primitive wilderness skills, and heads up his county’s CERT team.  He is part of the black jack team that formed CAC and is consulting with other disaster response teams around the nation. He walks the talk in community preparedness and planning. A few years ago he moved his family from a heavily surburban area of south Florida to the mountains of North Carolina and started building up a true homestead from the ground up.  Episode-1181- Glen Tate on 299 Days Book Six and Beyound | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:05:56

TweetBook 4 in the 299 Days Series Glen Tate is the author of the ten-book prepper novel series “299 Days” published by Prepper Press. The books describe an average guy who prepares for, and lives through, a partial collapse of the United States. Glen joins us today to discuss a bit of the plot line for book six in the 299 Days book series. Today we discuss how and ongoing collapse might play out.  We also discuss the potential need for “interim government” in a collapse scenario and what that might be like.  We also talk about Glen’s cool friends project and how it is evolving with folks like James Yeager of Tactical Response, Stewart Rhodes of Oathkeepers and John Willis of SOE Tactical Gear. Glen is a moderator on the TSP forum under the name “Heavy G.” He lives and works in Olympia, Washington where he has a front row seat to the corruption in government. Much like the main character in the series, the author is a forty-something resident of the capitol of Washington State, Olympia, and is a very active prepper. He grew up in the remote logging town of Forks, Washington. “Glen” keeps his identity a secret so he won’t lose his job because, in his line of work, being a prepper and questioning the motives of government is not appreciated. The story line of 299 Days is as follows, In it, the main character, Grant Matson, has a job that allows him to see what’s wrong with government. He realizes he needs to prepare for what’s coming and he does so. His wife, Lisa, is reluctant to prepare because she thinks things are just fine. When the civil unrest and political collapse hit in a dramatic way, it is undeniable that they need to leave their Olympia, Washington home and head to their cabin. But, Lisa is still reluctant; she desperately wants things to remain “normal.” Out at the cabin, a collection of amazing–yet real–people assemble. They create their own community because the government isn’t functioning in their area. They have to work together and, as a community, they manage to achieve some impressive results. Unlike most prepper stories, in 299 Days America suffers a partial collapse. The utilities stay one (due to a spell-binding plot twist) and the government functions in larger cities. People in rural areas still get some food and services from the government, but must increasingly rely on themselves. There are no zombies or cannibalism; 299 Days describes a much more likely partial collapse scenario. Grant’s friends, who work in government, describe how things continue to go down hill in the city and how the government is trying to maintain control. They describe exactly why the government, as big and powerful as it once was, cannot control things. Many in the military and law enforcement step in to stop the bad things; others in the military and law enforcement perpetuate the bad things. After a while out at the cabin, some important visitors arrive and present Grant with a difficult choice. Eventually, the Patriots–the side Grant is on–are forced to take on what’s left of the former government. There is a huge battle. In the end, Grant has an important job at the beginning of the rebuilding.   Additional Resources for Today’s Show Members Support Brigade Buy TSP Silver TSP Gear 13 Skills Walking to Freedom Join Our Forum Western Botanicals – (sponsor of the day) Back Woods Home Magazine – (sponsor of the day) 299Days.com 299 Days on Facebook 299 Days on Twitter 299 Days on Amazon Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-1180- How Preppers Can Save the Ideals of America | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:06:42

TweetWhen people follow blind patriotism the worst deeds and ills of mankind become common place.  There is an old saying, “patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel” made famous by Samuel Johnson and today such patriotism is rampant. War, poverty, fascism and more are all fine if you wrap it in the American flag.  So please don’t expect such flag waving drum beating in today’s show.  I don’t want to tell you what America is or even was but what it was promised to be.  I won’t lie to you and say that America will last forever, likely it won’t at least in its current form. Yet there is an America that has tried to exist since she was founded, an America that lives up to the promises our founders made, and even they didn’t keep.  An America we can create if we choose to.  It is also possibly an America we might have to keep alive some day under another name.  We don’t know the future but we know that we alone are responsible to fulfill the promises of the past. Join Me Today As I Discuss… How exactly are all men created equal and how are they not What are natural rights and why must they be recognized for liberty to exist What might the future of our nation hold, will we be here in 100 years Why is the promise of America, only a promise Why is it important to know our failures and our faults Why only preparedness can fulfill the promise of America Why we must believe that the promise is possible Resources for Today’s Show… Members Support Brigade 13Skills.com Join Our Forum TSP Mint TSP Gear WalkingToFreedom The Berkey Guy – (sponsor of the day) Harvest Eating – (sponsor of the day) Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.
