It's naturally nutritious, and the flavors are irresistible and kid friendly. So when our friends at Oldways told us that May was Mediterranean Diet Month, we decided to get in on the action. To learn all about it, we invited Sara Baer-Sinnott, President of Oldways, to join us for a Mediterranean-inspired lunch of Make-Your-Own Veggie Pita Pizzas and be a guest on the show.  Moms 140: The Skinny on Nuts - www.MealMakeoverMoms.com | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:41:53

Plant-based diets have received quite a bit of attention over the past few months ... from the growing popularity of Meatless Monday to the recommendation in the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans to eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and beans. A lot of what we at Meal Makeover Moms revolves around getting more of these foods onto the family table, so on this week's show, we share two new recipes featuring peanuts: Peanut Butter & Honey Noodles and Peanut Butter Chocolate Dip. We also unveil a new website from our friends at the National Peanut Board, The Skinny on Nuts, where consumers can go for the latest news on nut nutrition, family-friendly peanut and peanut butter recipes, and myths and truths about food allergies. For more information, visit the Moms' website and blog at http://www.mealmakeovermoms.com.

 Moms 139: Dining in the Dark - www.MealMakeoverMoms.com | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:40:28

Have you ever said to yourself, "Gee, tonight I think I'll eat dinner with a blindfold on?" That thought never crossed Janice's mind until a few weeks ago when she joined 34 fellow members of the Massachusetts Dietetic Association for a Dining in the Dark event...and they did just that. The concept of eating in complete darkness started with a blind clergyman from Zurich named Jorge Spielmann. When guests ate dinner at his house they would wear blindfolds during the meal to show solidarity and to better understand Spielmann’s daily challenges. Guests felt the blindfolds heightened their sense of taste and smell and made their dining experience more enjoyable. On this week's Cooking with the Moms podcast, Janice shares her unusual dining adventure with Liz and welcomes dietitian Marci Anderson, to the show. Marci spoke at the Dining in the Dark dinner, and she joins us on Cooking with the Moms to explore the concept of mindful eating as a way for individuals and families to develop a healthy and positive relationship with food. For more information, visit the Moms' website and blog at http://www.mealmakeovermoms.com.

 Moms 138: Food Photography 101 - www.MealMakeoverMoms.com | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:29:08

"Back in the day" when we went to college to study nutrition, the Internet, for all intents and purposes, did not exist, and there was no such thing as a blog. Today, there are well over 150 million blogs on the internet — featuring everything from food and nutrition to fitness and crafts — filled with countless (and we mean countless) photographs. Food photography wasn't a required class when we became registered dietitians, but as food bloggers, it's certainly a skill we need to know today. On this week's show, we're joined by professional food photographer, Gary Tardiff, who shares his tips and tricks for taking beautiful food photographs. For more information, visit the Moms' website and blog at http://www.mealmakeovermoms.com.
