The whole thing started out with a notice given by recycling companies announcing that they would stop collecting plastic bags and styrofoam from April 1. In South Korea, residential complexes have places where people can dispose recycling waste, and they have been managed by recycling companies that collect the waste and resells it. However, there was an event that caused a big change to the process. As it was declared last July, China banned imports of some solid waste starting from this January. As a result, it was no longer possible for the waste to be exported. However, foreign recycling waste of better quality began to be imported, thus lowering the value of domestic recyclables. That caused a setback to the revenue structure of recycling companies, and it prompted them to stop collecting plastic bags and styrofoam disposed of in residential areas that are often inadequate to be reused due to contamination or improper disposal. In turn, numerous numbers of apartment complexes posted official announcements directing residents to dispose of such recyclables as non-recyclable trash. However, such direction threw residents into great confusion, because it is illegal to throw away recyclables as general waste. Finally, after a long wait, the Ministry of Environment announced on April 6 an agreement established with Korea Resource Recycling Confederation Groups to resume the waste collection and ordered local councils to collect wastes left behind, thus managing to find a temporary fix to the incident. KoreanClass101.com의 금효민입니다. 벌써 경상도 사투리 블로그 마지막 시간이네요. 이번 시간에는 한국에서 큰 인기를 끌었던 영화 “친구”에 나온 유명한 경상도 사투리 대사들을 알아 볼거에요. 영화 ‘친구'는 2001년 한국에 경상도 사투리 돌풍을 일으켰던 영화인데요, 지금까지도 대사를 들으면 모든 사람이 알 정도로 유명합니다. 무엇보다 대한민국의 대표 배우인 장동건과 같은 유명한 배우들이 경상도 출신의 고등학교 친구들 역으로 나와 경상도 사투리로 대화하는 장면들이 많이 있는데요 그 중 가장 유명했던 대사가 있었죠? 바로 "그마해라...마이 무따 아이가..." 이 문장은 장동건이 친한 친구에게서 배신을 당한 뒤, 칼에 찔리면서 하는 대사입니다. 여기서 ‘마이 무따 아이가'는 ‘많이 먹었잖아?’라는 의미로, 영화속에서는 '칼에 많이 찔리다', ‘충분히 찔리다’ 라는 뜻으로 사용되었습니다. 하지만 실제 생활에서는 조금 다른 의미로 사용됩니다. 일반적인 보통 상황에서는 '많이 먹다' 라는 의미로 더 자주사용됩니다. 그러니까 갑자기 누군가 이 표현을 사용하더라도 놀라지 마세요. ‘마이 무따 아이가' 에서 '아이가' 는 '무엇무엇이잖아.그렇지?' 를 뜻하며 앞의 말을 한번더 확인 시켜주는 표현입니다. 한가지 더! “내가 니 시다바리가?”입니다. 여기에서 사용된 ‘시다바리'는 '부하'(아랫사람) 또는 '시중을 드는 사람'을 뜻합니다. 고로 '내가 니 시다바리가' 는 '내가 니 부하냐? 아니잖아' 라는 뜻 입니다. 참고로 시다바리 라는 단어는 일본어와 합쳐진 외래어 단어입니다. 아래를 뜻하는 일본어 ‘시타’와 경상도 사투리로 사람을 뜻하는 ‘바리’,가 합쳐져서 만들어진 것입니다. 자, 그럼 이번 블로그에서 알아본 단어를 이용한 문장을 한 번 들어볼까요? ”누굴 시다바리로 아나?” 무슨 뜻일까요? 정답은 “누굴 종으로 아니?”, “누굴 부하로 아니?” 입니다. 한국에선 친구들끼리 이런 문장으로 장난을 많이 치곤 한답니다. 여러분도 한번 친구에게 써 보는 건 어떨까요? 지금까지 금효민이었습니다. 마지막까지 함께 해 주셔서 감사합니다. 안녕히 계세요. ----English---- The famous Gyeongsangdo dialect expressions from the movie "Friends." Hello, everyone. This is Hyomin from Koreanclass101.com. We are already heading to the last of this season! In this blog, we are going to talk about the famous lines from the movie called "Friends," which was absolutely a big hit in Korea, that use the Gyeongsangdo dialect. The movie "Friends" came out in 2001 in Korea, filmed in the Gyeongsangdo background. It is still so famous to everyone that everybody remembers where it's from when they hear the lines. Most of all, the Korean top star Jang Dong-Geon and almost famous actors play the high schoolers from somewhere in Gyeongsangdo and definitely use the Gyeongsangdo dialect. The most famous line from there was "Please stop; you've got enough." ("geumahaera.. mai muttaaiga.") This line is from the scene when Jang Dong-Geon was betrayed by one of his best friends during high school and stabbed vigorously. Here, though the literal meaning of the verb is "to eat," it is used to mean that he stabbed him enough to took whatever he wanted to get from him. However, in real cases, the meaning "to eat" is used a lot more. So, don't get panicked when you hear this word! The meaning of the ending particle "didn't you" ("aiga") from "didn't you have enough" ("mai mutta aiga") is to confirm what the front verb means, which is "to eat" in this case. One more line! It's "am I your slave" ("naega ni shidabariga"). Here, the word "slave" ("shidabari") means the opposite of "boss," "someone who's under" or "someone to serve." Therefore, "am I your slave" ("naega ni shidabariga") means "Am I your man?" ("naneun ne buhanya?"). For reference, the word "slave" ("shidabari") is a foreign word combined with Japanese. The letter "Shita" means "the bottom" in Japanese and the letter "Bari" is "the person" in the Gyeongsangdo dialect. Okay, let's listen to a sample sentence using these words from this blog. "Do you think I'm your slave?" ("Neugeul shidabariro ana?"). What do you think it means? The answer is "Do you think I'm your slave?" ("Neugul jongeuro ani?" or "Neugul buharo ani?"). Koreans make a lot of jokes using this sentence. How about trying it on your Korean friends as well? Don't forget to stop by KoreanClass101.com for more great Korean Language Learning Resources! -------Lesson Dialog------- ----Korean---- 안녕하세요, 여러분. 선현우입니다. 지난 일주일 동안, 안녕하셨죠? 여러분, 수능시험이 무엇인지 아세요? 얼마 전에, 한국에서는, 수능시험이 있었는데요, 수능시험은, 원래는 '대학수학능력시험'이라고 하는데, 짧게 줄여서, 그냥 '수능시험' 또는 '수능'이라고 합니다. 수능시험은 아마도 한국에서 가장 규모가 큰 시험이 아닐까요? 동시에 80만명이 시험을 보니까요. 전국의 고등학교 3학년 학생들이 1년에 한 번, 모두 같은 날에 시험을 보는 거예요. 한국에서는 대학에 들어가기 위해서는 대부분 이 시험을 봐야 합니다. 저도 1998년에 수능시험을 보았는데요, 정말 스릴 있었어요. 하하. 왜 스릴이 있었냐구요? 그 전날, 정말 많이 아팠거든요. 초등학교 6년, 중학교 3년, 고등학교 3년 동안 공부한 것을, 즉 12년 동안 공부한 것을, 하루에, 딱 한 번 보는 시험으로 평가를 받습니다. 수능시험으로 모든 것이 결정되는 것은 아니지만, 그래도 대부분이 결정되기 때문에 정말 중요하죠. 그런데... 그 중요한 수능시험의 전날에 제가 갑자기 아파서 시험을 보러 갈 수 없는 상태가 되었으니, 저희 집에서는 난리가 났겠죠? 저도 "아... 내일 수능시험 못 보겠다..."라고 생각하면서 잠이 들었습니다. 그런데, 다음 날 아침, 그러니까, 수능시험을 보는 날, 눈을 떠 보니 하나도 안 아픈 거예요. 기적이었는지, 아니면 어머니의 정성어린 보살핌 덕분인지, 갑자기 다 나아 버렸어요. 하하. 그래서 저는 그 날 수능시험을 아주 잘 보고 집에 돌아왔습니다. 참 다행이죠? 그런데, 생각해 보면, 해마다 11월, 수능시험이 있을 때, 제가 그랬던 것처럼 갑자기 몸이 아파지는 학생들도 있을 거예요, 그렇죠? 그래서 딱 한 번이 아니라 두 번, 세 번 봐서, 그 중에 제일 좋은 성적으로 골랐으면 좋겠어요. 여러분 나라에도 수능시험이 있나요? 여러분 나라의 대학교 입학 시험은 어떤지 알려 주세요. 자, 그럼 다음 주에 뵙겠습니다. 감사합니다. A few days ago, we had the Suneung exam in Korea. The original name is "Daehak Suhak Nuengnyeok Siheom (college scholastic aptitude test)", but in short, we just call it the Suneung exam or Suneung. I think Suneung is probably the biggest exam to scale in Korea, since 800,000 people take the exam at the same time. All the highschool third graders in the nation take the test just once in a year, all on the same day. In order to enter a college in Korea, most poeple have to take this exam. I took Suneung in 1998 too, and it was really thrilling. Haha. Why was it thrilling? Because I was very sick the day before. What one has studied for 6 years in elementary school, 3 years in middle school and 3 years in highschool, to say, 12 years in total, is evaluated by the exam that you take just once, on one day. Suneung doesn't decide everything but it does decide many things, so it's really important. But I got sick in bed, and was feeling so bad that I wasn't able to go take the test the next day. Can you imagine the chaos that my family was in that day? I even went to bed thinking "well... I guess I can't take the Suneung exam tomorrow." But the next morning, that is, on the morning of the Suneung exam, I got up to find myself not sick at all. I don't know if it was a miracle or thanks to my mother's careful nursing, but suddenly, I was completely fine! Haha. So I did really well on the exam that day and came back home. What a relief, huh? But come to think of it, every year in November when the Suneung exam is taken, I guess there are students who get sick like I did, right? So I wish they could choose the best grade after taking the exam two or three times, not just once. Do you have Suneung in your country as well?
