This week's story focuses on Amy Jo Nelson, a young mother from New Straitsville, Ohio who died on Sept. 18, 2017. It was initially thought she died of a drug overdose. On her death certificate, however, it stated that she died as a result of a homicide.According to the Perry County coroner's report, both prescribed and non-prescribed drugs were in her system. However, drugs did not cause her death. The autopsy findings indicated Amy Jo Nelson's death was a homicide caused by blunt force trauma to the head.""The extensive head and brain injuries are not consistent with a simple fall and are consistent with injuries incurred by multiple blunt force trauma. Given the other body injuries, it appears the decedent was assaulted by another person or persons. Abbie Vann, Amy's sister, and Pam Nelson, Amy's mother, say that they are haunted by Amy's death and relive it each day. Amy's family has conducted their own investigation. They have done the legwork, obtained statements and documented their findings. Although they believe they know who killed Amy, they don't have any evidence to support it. Family members put out a reward in the hopes that someone will provide a tip that will lead to the murderer's arrest. According to Pam Nelson, Amy's mother, "We have our ideas of what happened based on the information that we've been given and the facts that we have, but not knowing the exact truth to have some sort of closure for our family trying to relive it every day and thinking of all these different possibilities of things that have happen, it's really hard," What happened to Amy Jo Nelson? I spoke with a mother named Jennifer VanDalsen about her son Alex VanDalsen, a twenty-one-year old, who died under mysterious circumstances. Alex was born Jasmine Mckenzie Danaher, but planning on transitioning into a man. Therefore, I will refer to him as Jennifer's son throughout this story. At 15, Alex decided he knew he was a male and wanted to live as one. Throughout this episode I'll refer to the victim as Alex and use male pronouns. He lived in Lafayette, Indiana. On February 3, 2021, it was a cold and snowy Indiana evening. Alex left home before midnight for unknown reasons. He did not tell anyone where he was going. On February 9th, two thousand twenty one, Alex was found dead. His death was ruled a suicide without any investigation.Alex's family has taken issue with the ruling. Police told Alex's family that "There was no immediate sign of trauma on the body." However, it wasn't until Alex's body arrived at the funeral home that they discovered he died from a gunshot wound to the head. The family asked the detective why he said there was no trauma to the body when there was a gunshot wound? It was less than twenty degrees when Alex was found 10 miles from his home. He also had asthma and wasn't dressed for the weather. Such treacherous weather would have made it impossible for him to walk ten miles. He would have died from exposure. Alex's family is certain he met with someone who knows what happened to him. The family also had a concern about the actual bullet wound. I was informed the entrance wound was larger than the exit. As someone who fired weapons in the military, this isn't feasible. The exit wound is typically larger when leaving the human body. The family also said Alex wasn't tested for having gunshot residue on his hands and the weapon wasn't checked for fingerprints. Also, Alex didn't own a gun, so where did this gun come from and who owned it? There were also no shell casings. How could Alex kill himself with a gun and not leave a shell casing behind? And there was no blood splatter at the scene. If Alex killed himself, there would be a casing and blood present at the scene. Most likely Alex was picked up by someone, shot to death and then dumped where he was found. Unfortunately, law enforcement hasn't waivered from the suicide ruling. Do you know what happened to Alex? On Oct. 4, 2018, Cameron boarded a flight to Billings, Montana to attend the wedding of a college. The same day, he attended a bachelor party at a rural property. On Nov. 5, 2018, other attendees of the party left the rural residence to drive into town, and returned around midnight.When they returned, Cameron was not where they claimed to have left him. Partygoers claimed Cameron continued to drink at the party and then went to sleep outside. A group of men then went into town leaving Cameron behind. When the friends arrived back to the property, they didn't see Cameron. They thought he had found different accommodations. Cameron would never be seen alive again. Yet, no one called the police or the family immediately after Cameron vanished. And when he didn't show up for the October 6 wedding, everyone knew Cameron was in trouble. Cameron never showed up for the Oct. 6 wedding, for which he was supposed to be a groomsman. The ceremony and reception continued as planned, according to Marion. On November 3, 2018, Cameron's body was recovered from Pryor Creek. On Nov. 3, 2018 – nearly one month after he was allegedly last seen alive – Cameron’s body was recovered from Pryor Creek. Although the circumstances of Cameron's death were suspicious, law enforcement immediately closed the case and claimed Cameron was intoxicated and wandered into the pond where he drowned. The problem was there was no water in his lungs. How does one drown without water being in the lungs?The official ruling by the medical examiner was an accidental death due to cold water immersion in association with cocaine and alcohol use, according to the report.Also, there was blood on Cameron's clothing and someone had placed sawdust inside Cameron's clothing. The sawdust was allegedly placed on Cameron to breakdown the body faster. Cameron's finger was cut off and his college ring was taken. And the boots recovered from his body didn't fit him. So where did Cameron's boots go? The Collin family said law enforcement has refused to re-open the case as either a homicide or undetermined. Family members believe Cameron was the victim of foul play and his body was thrown into the creek. On June 4, 1988, Mary Morgan Pewitt, 25, was found murdered. Over 30 stab wounds were found on her body. During the early hours of the morning, Mary Morgan Pewitt's mother, Elizabeth Morgan, was returning the girls to Mary after after an overnight stay. No one answered. Amber, Mary's youngest daughter, peeked into her mother's bedroom window. Her mother lay dead on her bed covered in blood. She had been stabbed 30 times.The case remains unsolved three decades later, and has the distinction of being Comanche's only unsolved murder.The beginningMary had been married three times, the first being at the age of 16. There were two more marriages (Tim Allen and Stan Pewitt). The second ended in divorce and the third was heading in the same direction. Money was tight for Mary. She had been injured while working in a nursing home. This limited her employment options. Prior to her murder, she was working at Harold's Club, the only bar in Comanche, Oklahoma. Mary closed the bar on Friday night, June 3, and brought the receipts to the owner's home. She then went home to 611 N. 10th Street, where her boyfriend Randy was already waiting for her. He told police that they watched TV and he left at 12:45 a.m. that morning. Kira, Mary's daughter, told me he left to play video games with his 8-year-old son. Someone entered the home after Randy left and stabbed Mary in the neck and upper chest. In an attempt to defend herself, she suffered wounds to her arms and hands. Although she was found in a t-shirt, underwear, and socks, the autopsy showed she had not been sexually assaulted. A first cousin of Mary's, Becky Pentland, says the family refuses to let this case remain a cold case. Rebecca Pentland grew up with her cousin, Mary Morgan."She was just a world of fun. I just love her so much...I thought of her as a little sister."According to Pentland, "This wasn't like a gunshot or something like that. She was basically butchered and slaughtered. She was stabbed over 35 times. I want them in prison and paying for what they've done." Pentland added, "She was a very loving and giving person and she did not deserve this. She loved her daughters, she loved her family. They need to pay. This week’s story involves the homicide of a 23 year old Montana man named Randy Church . It was a cold winter day back in February 1985. Randy Church worked at Pizza Hut. He was also a Montana State University student. While closing alone, an unknown killer entered the Pizza Hut restaurant, shot Randy to death and stole just under $1,000.00. Randy’s parents were heartbroken and died before ever finding out who killed their son. However, there may be a silver lining in the clouds because there is also DNA on this case. I am hopeful that law enforcement can test it and find a donor.This case remains open and needs someone to call in a tip and give this family some peace. After graduating from high school in 2005, Joseph took a job with a local landscaping company called Outside Unlimited. He decided to temporarily forego college and just work through the summer. He wanted to become a landscaping architect. Joseph did well and was promoted to foreman within months of starting. On July twentieth, two thousand six, Joseph left home early and said goodbye to his mother Adrienne Miranda. She had no idea it would be the last time she would ever see him alive again. After arriving home from work that evening, Adrienne was surprised when she came home to an empty house. Usually Joseph would be home. She just assumed he was out with friends. But her life changed forever when she received a call from Joseph's father Bob at eleven that night. He had horrible news. Joseph was killed in an accident at his job. Adrienne then also received a call from the Maryland State Police notifying her that Joseph had died around 3:30 p.m. that afternoon.According to The Baltimore Sun, police learned that near the end of Joseph’s shift on July twenty, he was given a task that needed to use the Bobcat to complete. A coworker told him he needed to finish a project before giving the Bobcat to Joseph. The coworker said Joseph tried to remove the driver and jumped onto one of the wheels of the Bobcat, slipped and fell. He was then ran over. Although there were different witness statements, several accounts claimed Joseph and his coworker got into an argument over the Bobcat. This led to the coworker getting angry and shoving Joseph, who then feel and was then killed by the Bobcat. The coworker would end up giving four different accounts of what happened. This week’s story involves the unsolved homicide of a 17 year old Georgia teenager named Blake Chappell. It's been 10 years since teenager Blake Chappell vanished after attending a homecoming dance with his girlfriend, only to be found dead months later. The case remains cold today. Blake’s mother Melissa Chappell, is devastated over the loss. Even after ten years, she struggles to get through life without her youngest son. The memories of October 15, 2011 still haunt her. She said Blake was so excited about attending homecoming with his girlfriend. He then planned on staying overnight with a friend. After the dance, Blake called his mom to check in. He told her he had the best time of his life. Before she hung up the phone, she remembers telling him she would see him the next day. Unfortunately, this would be her last conversation with her beloved son because he vanished and was never seen alive again. He was last seen in the morning hours of October 16, 2011. Blake had left his friend’s house to visit his girlfriend. He then sneaked in through a window. The girl’s grandmother overheard the young couple talking and then woke up the girlfriend’s mother. They were angry at Blake for sneaking into their home in the middle of the night. Blake left his girlfriend’s house and began walking back to his friend’s house. He would never make it. Then in December 2011, two months after Blake’s disappearance, Melissa received the call no parent ever wants. Blake’s body was found in a creek in East Newnan. He’d been shot to death and was only wearing his underwear. His killer had taken Blake’s clothing, wallet and cellphone. None of these items have ever turned up. Blake’s phone, wallet, and clothes were never found.What happened to this young man? He was a 17 year old teenager whose life hadn’t even started. Before he vanished, he had just told his mother he had the best day of his life. Little did he know, he would have the worst day of his life just hours later after speaking to his mother for the final time. This week’s story appeared on an episode of ID Discovery’s Still a Mystery. It was featured on episode 11, season two, about the story of a young woman who was murdered and then dismembered. Trish Danielle Haynes was a 25-year-old woman who became involved in a domestic abuse relationship. They lived together in a New Hampshire town called North Woodstock. The couple dated off and on between 2014 and 2017. After 3 years, Trish contacted the police and filed a complaint against her abusive boyfriend. He begged her to drop the charges. She gave in and agreed to drop the charges. Unfortunately, by dropping the charges, the police charged Trish with filing a false police report. Trish had returned to Florida to stay with her grandmother Sandy, who had raised her. Trish was then summoned to court in New Hampshire to face charges for the false police report.Trish returned to New Hampshire and stayed with a friend named Becky who lived near Cardigan Mountain State Park. Trish got restless and wanted to leave. She reconnected with a former classmate named Ashley Smith. Ashley and her husband, Doug Smith, lived in Grafton, New Hampshire. The Smiths offered Trish a place to stay while she waited for her court date. On January 28, 2018, Becky gave Ashley a ride to Citgo gas station to meet with Ashley and Doug. Trish left with the Smiths and returned to their home. Unfortunately, no one would ever see Tricia alive again. In September 2018, law enforcement found some of Trish’s remains inside a combo washer and dryer unit in Grant’s Pond. Someone had murdered and then dismembered Trish. During the investigation, law enforcement would learn that Ashley and Doug Smith both had lengthy criminal records. Law enforcement quickly descended on the Smith home, looking for evidence of the grisly crime. Today, Ashley and Doug Smith are both suspected of killing Trish. It’s believed that Trish Haynes died on May 18, 2018. Since Trish’s death, witnesses have come forth to the family and told law enforcement and Trish’s family horror stories of how Trish was tortured and abused while staying with the Smiths.A friend of the Smiths said Trish was always at the residence, but then one day she vanished. Ashley claimed Trish had run off to another state with an unknown man. A grieving mother named Donna Augustine reached out to me and asked if I would share her son’s story. The Augustine family lives in Ulster County, New York. Donna told me Steven is a twin. Donna also has a daughter. At 32, Steven lived at home with his parents. Donna considered Steven a wonderful son. He looked after his parents, took care of their home, yard, and automobiles. He also had two sons he loved more than anything. He worked long hours so he could provide for his young sons. On May 28, 2018, Steven Augustine left work and walked home. He was attacked near a Kingston bakery. The beating was so brutal, Steven barely survived. Authorities arrested a career criminal with a lengthy record named Charles Miles. The beating left Steven permanently paralyzed and on a ventilator. He live for another 23 months and remained confined to a hospital bed until his death. Donna expected Charles Miles to face serious charges for nearly killing her son. She became angry after learning Miles would only be charged with a misdemeanor and not a felony. He only spent 72 days in the county lockup before authorities released him.The Augustine family became angry. How could Steven’s assault only be a misdemeanor? They assumed that since Miles already had a lengthy criminal record which warranted serious charges. Former Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright refused to charge Miles with a felony. He claimed Miles didn’t intend to harm Steven. According to Carnright, “The injuries to his face were consistent with a single punch. He also said the fracture was caused by Steven falling down backwards. I have seen pictures of Steven’s injury. Half of his skull was caved in from a blunt weapon and not a fall. Medical staff removed the left side of Steven’s skull. Donna is now fighting to get justice for her dead son. A local news station interviewed Carnright, and he insisted he couldn’t charge Miles with a felony. Donna wondered why the authorities weren’t going after Miles for more severe charges. According to Donna, an investigator told her that Charles Miles worked as a trusted police informant for many years. She now believes that’s why Charles Miles hasn’t been charged with additional crimes after Steven died. Donna is determined to fight for her son. She wants to see Charles Miles get prison time for his part in Steven’s death. Although Steven died nearly two years after the assault, he would still be alive had he not been nearly beaten to death. Steven loved his sons. He should still be alive and spending time with them. Steven died alone with none of his loved ones to comfort him. This week’s story involves a long and arduous journey for a woman named Fran Kubes. She has been trying to get justice for her sister Anna Marie Mullin who was brutally murdered nearly 40 years ago. After her discharge from the Air Force, 22 year old Annamarie Mullin returned to civilian life and began enjoying life. She was a regular at the Caboose bar in Wilton Manors, Florida. She knew everyone and everyone knew her. On November 6, 1982. The young woman noticed a stranger in the bar. He wasn’t a regular and no one knew him. Annamarie sat next to him and engaged in a conversation with him.He then began buying her drinks. She became intoxicated. At 230 am. Annamarie left the bar with the man who had bought her drinks. He said he would give her a ride home. Annamarie waved to the remaining customers and said goodnight to them. Little did they know, they would never see their young friend alive again. She would be dead within several hours. A few hours later at 7 am, members of the St. Clements Catholic Church began arriving for mass. What they saw would shock them. A dead woman was found on the front steps of the church. She had been raped, beaten and strangled. It was a horrific and brutal killing. The Wilton Manors Police Department soon arrived on the scene to investigate. The dead woman was identified as Annamarie Mullin from Ashland Massachusetts. Just a few hours earlier, she had left the Caboose bar and now she was dead. Her case has remained unsolved for nearly four decades. Can you identify her killer? This week’s story involves the death of an 11-year-old boy named Christopher Aaron Morris on September 25, 2000. Christopher and his sister Ashley McCarthy were Army brats. It’s a term of endearment used to reference the children of military personnel. Christopher lived with his dad in military housing in Wichita Falls, Texas at Sheppard Air Force Base. On the day of September 25, 2000, Christopher was off from school. At 11, his dad felt he was mature enough to be home alone. His father came home around 11am for lunch. He then left an hour later. He would then leave work early and arrive home around 2 pm. When he came home, Christopher wasn’t there to greet him. He then began looking for his son. When he looked in his room, he saw dish racks from the dishwashing machine in Christopher’s room. He immediately went to the dishwasher. He saw Christopher’s clothing piled up next to the machine. When he opened the machine, he found his son’s body inside the machine. Not only was Christopher deceased, but someone had turned on the machine and ran an entire cleaning cycle. From this point, the mystery began. After authorities arrived, they immediately accused Christopher’s dad of killing his son. Allegedly, Christopher was sexually assaulted, tortured, murdered, and then someone ran his body ran through a full cycle in the dishwasher. I would assume this was done to remove evidence. According to Ashley, Christopher’s sister, none of this is true. What happened to this young man who played football and loved playing with legos? Do you know what happened to him? This week’s case occurred in Houston Texas. The potential victim was a young mother of two who was found deceased inside a locked tattoo shop.For this episode, I interviewed Tiffany Hicks, a grieving mother who just lost her 27 year old daughter Tailor Marie Clark under mysterious circumstances. Tailor was an entrepreneur who had developed her own salve for people with tattoos. She planned on marketing her product through various tattoo shops. The product was called Tailor Made. On September 17, 2021, Tailor arrived at a Houston tattoo shop called 59 Ink. She planned on speaking to the owner about carrying her tattoo salve. She also wanted to get another tattoo and another one touched up. While at the tattoo shop, Tailor kept in touch throughout the evening with her boyfriend and mother. Eventually, things got strange. Tailor’s boyfriend received a message referring to him as Daddy while Tiffany received a text from Tailor stating that she was dead. Tiffany assumed it meant her daughter’s phone had died. After all communication between Tailor, her boyfriend and Tiffany ceased. Tiffany and Tailor’s boyfriend believed that someone else was sending messages on Tailor’s phone pretending to be her. By 2 pm, on the following day, which was Saturday September 18, 2021, Tailor’s step brother and one of his friend’s drove to the tattoo shop. One of the tattoo artists pulled up. The stepbrother and his friend said they were looking for Tailor. The three men entered the tattoo shop and found Tailor’s lifeless body in the backroom lying on a couch. What happened to Tailor? Why was she found deceased inside a locked tattoo parlor? For the 100th episode, I interviewed JoAnn Lowitzer, who is the mother of 16-year-old Alexandra “Ali” Lowitzer, who attended Spring High School in Spring, Texas. Ali was active in art, choir, softball, and Girl Scouts. But Joann’s life changed forever on April 26, 2010. It was just like any other day for the Lowitzer family. Allie had asked her mom for permission to walk to the Burger Barn and collect her paycheck. She also wanted to see if she could work that night.Joann originally said no, but Ali begged and pleaded. She had never walked to her job before and it was only a short distance from her home. Joann finally gave in and gave Ali permission to walk to her job after school. Ali got off the bus that day at 3pm and then began walking to work. She would disappear and never be seen again. Allie vanished 11 years ago. There have been no tips or any information about her whereabouts. JoAnn told me she still hopes that her beloved daughter is still alive. JoAnn has worked with a PI who received a tip that Allie was a victim of sex trafficking and might be in a trap house in Ohio. JoAnn told me the tip didn’t lead to anything significant. Do you know what happened to Ali? Her mother is still hoping she can find out what happened to her daughter. Unfortunately, as the days pass, it reduces the odds of Ali ever being found alive.
