New Jersey Devils legend Patrik Elias will have his #26 jersey retired in a ceremony that which will occur Saturday February 24th. In honor of this event, this podcast is an interview that took place last year when he announced his retirement. It is an in-depth, intimate conversation about his legacy, the memories, and how he wants to be remembered. His will be the fifth jersey to hang from the Prudential Centers rafters joining #4 Scott Stevens, #3 Ken Daneyko, #27 Scott Niedermayer and #30 Martin Brodeur. Drafted by the Devils in the second round with the 51st overall selection in the 1994 NHL Draft, Elias played all 18 full seasons of his NHL career in New Jersey, leading the team to two Stanley Cup Championships, in 2000 and 2003. Elias is the regular-season franchise leader in goals (408), assists (617) and points (1,025), and ranks third in games played with 1,240. He is also the clubs all-time playoff leader with 45 goals, 80 assists and 125 points, 21 power-play goals and six game-winning goals. Al Michaels, the play-by-play voice for NBCs Sunday Night Football, calls his 10th Super Bowl on February 4, 2018 on NBC. In calling Super Bowl LII, Michaels will become only the second television commentator to earn 10 Super Bowl play-by-play assignments joining former CBS and FOX announcer Pat Summerall (11). In addition, Michaels call of this years NFL title game alongside Cris Collinsworth from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, will come nearly 30 years to the day since his first Super Bowl play-by-play assignment ABCs broadcast of the Washington Redskins historic 42-10 Super Bowl XXII victory over the Denver Broncos on Jan. 31, 1988. Honored to have Edwin Moses on the podcast. Edwin Moses won the 400-meter hurdles at the 1976 Olympics with a world-record time. He began a decade-long streak of 122 consecutive victories in 1977, earning a second gold medal at the 1984 Olympics. After retiring from track, Moses became a competitive bobsledder and influenced drug policies as a member of the U.S. and international Olympic committees. By bringing together nonprofit leaders, providing resources and facilitating collaboration at the local level, Sport for Good New York City will ensure more children and youth have access to high quality, youth-centered sports programs. To support the launch of S4G NYC, Laureus USA, awarded grants to eight local nonprofit organizations that use sport or physical activity to empower local youth. The Super Bowl is here! Minneapolis is the host city for the Super Bowl, and the first in a series of Super Bowl related podcasts begins with MN Native Caleb Truax. Truax was an All-Conference football player at Osseo High School, just northwest of Minneapolis. A walk-on at Virginia State University, Caleb wasnt able to play collegiate football due to a lingering left knee injury, so he returned home and enrolled at the University of Minnesota where he graduated with a degree in political science. Needing to fulfill his competitive spirit, Caleb saw a Tough Man competition ad in the City Pages. Though he lost his first fight, Caleb was hooked and started to train as a boxer. During an illustrious 3 1/2 year amateur boxing career, Caleb was the 2006 Upper Midwest Golden Gloves champion and won the USA Boxing titles for Minnesota and the region. After turning pro in April 2007, Caleb won his first 18 matches. On Dec. 9, 2017, Caleb scored arguably the biggest upset of the year, earning a majority decision over Olympic champion James DeGale. Now the IBF Super Middleweight champion, Calebs adviser Al Haymon, whose clients also includes Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Deontay Wilder, is lining up his first title defense.
