Let's take a look behind the scenes to see how I brainstorm ideas and turn those ideas into programs and products. People often ask me where I get my ideas for my business. Part of it is that I love to come up with a ton of different ideas and see what sticks. But I've also come up with ideas because there was something that I needed and couldn't find. If I need it, and I want it, and I think it will help my business, maybe other people will agree and they'll want this thing too.

Angie McPherson worked in the marketing industry before she became a wedding photographer and she has been incorporating her marketing expertise into her photography business as a brand photographer. She helps wedding pros and other creative entrepreneurs and business owners with their branding and marketing. Angie takes her expert marketing advice to help explain marketing for any level. Even though I talk to Angie every single day, I still left this conversation with tons of notes!

I have some offbeat philosophies on marketing - that's why I called this episode Messy Marketing with Elizabeth! One of the reasons that I created this podcast is because I wanted more women to realize that we don't have to fit into this type A planner world to run a successful business. We can be ourselves and tap into some of the things we're really good at, even if we struggle when it comes to organization sometimes. Marketing is no exception!

Have you ever attached a negative memory to an experience?  In this episode I share a story of Gracie getting a hair cut and how our experience had the power to change the way I saw her haircut.  This relates to the way I run my business as well.  We have an opportunity to create positive memories for our clients to attach to their experiences working with us.  Client experience can look different for everyone!   It is possible to create a positive client experience that fits just right into our lives

I'm a sharer of my family, my children, all the things! But often the question comes up about what's an appropriate amount of information to share about our lives and our children. Some people make the decision to not share anything about their kids on social media. The truth is that we don't know what our children are going to think about their online presence, but I've made the choice to leave a digital legacy for my kids of moments big and small that they will be able to look back and read.

Jess Jacobsen is a social media strategist from Huntington Beach, CA who helps businesses big and small build an authentic social media strategy. Jess interviewed me for her Small Business Social Media Summit and we've been friends ever since. Jess totally called me out during this episode! I mentioned not having a large following and this is what she had to say: "You have 2,400 Instagram followers. That's a lot! That's 2,400 people you could impact.

What happens when you have a crazy idea and you put it out in the world and it actually works? I know I’m addicted to making plans and following through with them, because it gives me the confidence to keep trying and keep making goals. I couldn't help but laugh when I was asked the question about my routine! It's a little bit of a mess! My routine is always changing and really requires me to give myself so much grace - the routine is not always gonna be perfect!

This aligns with my beliefs on the differences between an influencer and a leader. Influencers just have a large reach. Social media can be pretty great. It’s such an important and FREE marketing tool for us and it’s an amazing way to keep in touch with people all over the world. But social media isn’t always a good thing. It can be too easy to hide behind the screen and to really hurt people, unintentionally and intentionally.
