 Ep 135: Janine Allis | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:02:06

Janine Allis is an Australian businesswoman and entrepreneur, CEO and founder of the incredibly successful Boost Juice franchises. She's also a Shark on Network Ten's Shark Tank which is on Wednesday nights.    She's also a mother, an author, and has a story that you will not believe - which includes life working aboard David Bowie's private yacht.   This story is brilliant because it's a triumph over what society expects from many people.    That success is only open to those with a university degree.    That one town just isn't big enough for some people.    Janine came over to my place in Bondi a few weeks back and we had this conversation which I am sure you'll enjoy.    If you like what you hear - let her know @janineboost on twitter - and if you really like what you hear, simply tell a friend about this show.

 Ep 134: Leeanne Enoch | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:58:18

The Honorable Leeanne Enoch is Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy and Minister for Small Business in the seat of Algester in QLD.    In what is a massive deal for me and this very show - her wonderful staff reached out to me and asked if I could come and interview her. Considering the work she's doing and the story that she has to tell, I jumped at the chance.    Leeanne is the first Aboriginal Australian Woman to be elected into the QLD Parliament, a woman who grew up On Country in North Stradbroke Island and then in Woodridge housing commission on the southern fringes of Brisbane.    Her story at points moved me to tears, and I'm sure it will do the same to you.    We speak about women in power, growing up on country, and what the economy of the future might look like.

 Ep 133: Julie Stevanja | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:52:31

Julie Stevanja is co-founder and CEO of Stylerunner.com   Again, her story is bloody inspirational.   In particular what I love about her tale is not only the grit to keep going, and her ability to see a gap in the market - but how she knew and valued the power of her personal network so much that she relocated back to Australia to build the business, and now is running an internationally massive retail operation from an office in Alexandria in Sydney.    A quick word about prep.    You know me. I always prepare    However on this day I rolled into the interview and realized I'd forgotten to put my SD card back into my recorder, and lost 15 minutes of interview time because I had to run across the street to Sun Studios which is the big fancy photography studio set up here in Sydney, buy an SD card, and then sprint back across the street.    So apologies for the length of the show today - don't worry, I have put my spare SD card back into my podcast kit.

 EP 132 Jane Lu | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:15:23

Jane Lu is the founder and CEO of mammoth fashion startup Showpo.com. She speaks about hearing the sounds of Tienanamen Square erupt when she was a child, moving to Australia and creating the life she loves.  This is easily one of my favourites - because everyone loves a story of triumph.  This episode is brought to you by the great supporters of this show who have pledged through Patreon.com/osher. For as little as $5 a month you'll have access to exclusive episodes and help make sure I can get a show to you each and every week.

 EP 131: Craig Bruce | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:09:12

Craig Bruce is one of the most iconic names in the Australian Radio Industry.  For over 20 years he worked for the company which is now Southern Cross Austereo - first as an announcer, then as assistant program director and eventually rose to the role of group content director - means he's in charge of everything and everyone you hear on air that isn't a commercial.    His reputation for spotting and developing new talent is beyond par, most notably with his development and then anointing of Kyle Sandilands as the Sydney Breakfast Radio anchor in 2004.   Craig had played an important role in my career as well - he was at the first station I ever worked at and then was a part of bringing me to SAFM for my breakout into daytime radio.   He's got a new podcast which it available at radiogamechangers.com - where he speaks with those in the industry that have truly disrupted and changed how the business of radio works.   Craig is the first person I called when I wanted to get back on the air in 2016 and played a huge role in getting me the gig at Hit105 Brisbane even though he had left the company by then.   While I've known Craig for the better part of 22 years, I found out things about him in this conversation that I did not know, and I must thank him for his candour and openness to bring up those very personal moments in his life - as I believe that hearing his story might help someone listening right now who may have faced a similar situation.   Thank you for being here. Enjoy Craig Bruce.

Rachael Johns is one of Australia's most successful romance novelists.  She's penned over fifteen books, and has amassed a legion of followers who look forward to what will next unfold in the impossibly romantic Australian outback where men are men who wander in from out of town to get work and then turn up one morning on the farm to lift heavy things with rugged muscled bodies in the sunset. You get the idea.   The most interesting thing about this is Rachael's path to success. Yes she's published more than 15 books, but it took her 15 years to get noticed. Also it's interesting how the skills she learned as a kid helped her in her now career - and her creative flow is also something that I'm sure you'll enjoy hearing about.

 Ep 122: Georgina Venzin | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:54:41

This episode is brought to you by wonderful listeners who have leant their support on Patreon   My guest today is Georgina Venzin who’s the Youth Ambassador for the Mindshift Foundation - a place dedicated to raising the self worth of youth across Australia. They develop self-esteem programs for high-school teachers to provide skills to students, they’ve a pilot program happening now at a high school in Brisbane, and are looking to scale statewide and then nationally.    She’s also a high-profile restauranteur in Brisbane, who alongside her Father manages four separate successful restaurants, and they also work at buying floundering restaurants, turning them around and then selling them as successful businesses.    She’s achieved all this by the age of 26.    Georgina has a very interesting story - growing up with both parents who were living with mental health issues, she almost had to raise her own Mum at one point.    Her path to being an ambassador towards self esteem in young people passes through booking herself in for breast enhancement surgery and then pulling out not once, but twice. She also booked herself in for a nose-job, and again - pulled out at the last moment.    Now, Georgina is a beautiful and intelligent woman, savvy and smart who’s the front-facing representative of a successful hospitality company -  and she wears no makeup.    “I learned to love myself for who I am” she told me.    It’s one of the more powerful conversations I’ve had since I’ve done this show.    If you’re a woman listening - think about what it would take for you to go through your day to day life, your corporate life - wearing no make up.    Georgina has an inspiring story, and I’m grateful I could share it with you.

 Ep 121: Nathan Birch | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:05:33

My guest this week is Nathan Birch.  Nathan is an incredibly interesting guy, he retired from regular work at 24 and is a self-made multi-millionaire.  Following a strict protocol which he freely explains in this show - he's amassed a property portfolio of over 200 properties worth over $50M which after all is said and done provides him with more than $500K a year in passive income.    But that's not why he's on the show.  He's on the show because he's a guy who's seen the railroad tracks that we as a society are expected to follow    The repetitive script of Birth School Work Marriage Mortgage Kids Cancer Death that millions of people in western society have followed before us. The script that we're expected not to question. "Here look! Shiny new things! Don't worry about it"     One of the things I love to do is speak to people who've explored life outside that of the big machine and get their perspective of life.    Nathan's approach to how he made his fortune may not be for you or be within reach of you - but his perspective on life is very interesting.  Because he's made a life for himself where the acquisition of money and material things stopped being a problem to be solved - so what does he do next?   That's the question that I love to hear the answer to.    What do you do once you've left the finish line that society has defined for us well, well behind?  When the house, the car, the overseas trip, the big tv, the boat the whatever - once you've got all of those material things - what do you do next?    Now I'm not a client of Nathan's but I love the lessons he's taught here in this conversation.
