Episode 70 ~ James Rempel’s Transcendental Ceremony; Wick Beach Tour; Surfing is Tough but Fun | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:51:53

It was a bit chaotic for the first time this year over the weekend, although in a totally controlled fashion (that will change, and you know it). I speak with one dude who was smacked in the face with the difficulty of surfing, and totally loved it. A bit chaotic, but I think you’ll appreciate the reality of this moment. James Rempel tells me about a very personal experience in nature involving an eagle a hawk and their clockwise/counter-clockwise circular motion. This dude is legit. I give a couple Tofino visitors who pick me up hitchhiking an introduction to Tuff City beach life, giving them the skinny on Wickaninnish Beach — and beyond. @blackmarble, Boards of Canada “Sequoia” @boardsofcanada, @kraftwerkofficial, @teganandsara, @stephanbodzin, @feelmybicep

 Episode 69 ~ Glassblower from California; Bryx Pre-Show w/ Ginnie | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:50:31

-Ginger Slice drops by Tuff City Radio studios to hang out as we drop some drum n’ bass bombs, ambient hip-hop creativity and psy-infused swagger. After all, Bryx (@bryxbryx) is headed to play Tofino for the first time, so we wanted to make sure our little resort municipality is in on the up n’ up. 1:19:30 – I interview a glassblower live over the airwaves from California.  Episode 65 ~ Excuse me while I go shoot a pilot | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:59:06

The cool thing about living in the most gnarly and rugged rainforest in the universe is that sometimes the big boys roll through to capture some of our legit mystique. If you’re trying to give people a cinematic experience, all you really have to do is open your lens on the giant windswept trees just past the beach where the waves come to an end. That’s why I couldn’t help but take a gig as an extra on ABC’s The Crossing pilot. Heard about it through a hitchhiking ride originally and was excited when I got a call to be one of the people from the future trying to escape back to North America. It was a totally rad experience (although not as easy as you would think to lay dead on the beach in the middle of the night, the way the thermometer drops around here). But don’t worry guys, I got you. I brought you some lush and hyper beats to carry you through until next week. Peace. Tracklist: Annix – Slaughtered (ft.  Episode 64 ~ DJ Ginger Slice brings the hype to Tuff City Radio | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:54:10

DJ Ginger Slice (@ginga-slice) is back in Tofino while she continues to work on a bass-heavy EP. I know you can’t wait for what she’ll drop, and I can assure you there’s some gems in there for sure. “You have to go in there with an optimistic, curious point of view — and enjoy it,” she urges music creators. 1:19:11 – We bring you some random bunny facts and talk about the Best of Tofino results from the illustrious Tofino Time (www.tofinotime.com/) magazine.  Episode 63 ~ Dark days and my convo with a Canadian indie film creator | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:00:20

It’s been a rare thing for me to delve into dubstep and trap territory on my show, but I figured it was at least time to embrace some of these elements — particularly with the new release from @gjonesbass. It’s music that’s as spastic as Tofino weather conditions eh? Plus, we’ll dial up the random inspiration voiceovers and douse you in some solid four-on-the-floor. Because — why not? 1:20:13 – Luchos is a dude who I met while hitchhiking from Whistler to Vancouver, while working on a segment for Episode 23 of the Frequency Horizon (Frequencyhorizon – Episode-23-whistler-adventure-hitchhike-up-badbadnotgood-interview-a-tribe-called-red-shoutout). We ended up talking about travel and what’s it’s like to work in the Canadian indie film industry. He ended up stopping by Tuff City Radio and camping by the waves.  Episode 62 ~ Ville Freestyles + Plays Classical Guitar 4 V-Day | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:04:26

This was our 2017 Valentines Day special. I even threw down a freestyle.

 Episode 61 ~ How can the surf-rental industry become more eco-friendly? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:52:00

Entertaining and refreshing, hopeful but realistic, this episode’s gonna make you think and rock your wetsuit booties clean off, before chilling you out as you know we do~ -We’ll fire’er up w/ a mini-throwback musically speaking for the lead-in “Time Out” show members who stuck around to chill on the couch in studio. Come on guys, I love leftovers, and didn’t mean anything nasty by it

 Episode 60 ~ Boss Level: Cam co-hosts a special 3.75hr throw-down | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3:45:20

Sixty is a big number! I was thrilled Tuff City Radio manager Cameron Dennison came by to hang out and celebrate the milestone. We figured we’d unleash 3.5 hours of awesome frequencies bathed in a true rock-n-roll ethos to the interwebs. I must warn you, it gets a bit rowdy. 0:00 – We rewind time to bring you a glimpse of the last chunk of Time Out With Dena & Friends, where you’ll hear a little bit about one of Cam’s formative musical experience. 11:36 – The Frequency Horizon kicks off with an intro we hope will prepare you for the good times in store. 25:25 – “I do like it quirky and driving.” Cam the Boss makes his entrance, and explains how he always seeks to select music that speaks to the mood of our surf community of Tofino. “I’m grateful to be a part of it.” 46:48 – If you explore the local haunts you’ll know of Vargas Treasures, which is often open late. We stop in to see shopkeeper Sandra Varga, a prominent local Quebecois character, and she tells us a story about her father’s clothing factories. It’s a unique tale of French Canadian life, a topic quite relevant to Tofino, a place these folks love to visit. Music: @craftal, @tainsus, @nosajthing, @bonobo, @nnuages, @harrisonbrome, @kllsmth, @cafedisko, @dsidedj, @mysticstate, @bearhandsband And the awesomeness keeps on coming… Better prepare your hangover remedy~

Episode 59 ~ Rachel reads poetry outside a house party, prairie radio station tour | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:53:29

From prairie radio to vinyl house party poetry, this Frequency Horizon episode is all over the map at the end of the road like usual~ 35:10 – Today we’re going to see how frequencies are broadcast all across the Canadian prairies from a home base in rural Manitoba. And we’ll have Golden West DJ and Elvis impersonator Corny Rempel (www.cornyentertainment.com/) as our guide. (www.goldenwestradio.com/) 49:10 – We debut the new Butterflywingtip (@Butterflywingtip) album live on the air. Glad to hear they’re killin’ it like always. 57:40 – Time-out for a local news sesh: We talk marketing of a more under the radar section of the West Coast. And we’ll discuss Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s efforts to bring communities on board with pipeline announcements. 1:26:00 – I’ve been looking forward to this for quite awhile… Local poetic mind Rachel Walker lends her delightfully independent yet carefully elegant craft to some stanzas for our Frequency Horizon audience. We captured this audio at a dope mid-winter house party (put on by previous guest of the show (@ginga-slice) where I brought some of my favourite vinyl to spin, none the less! Plus music from: @JunkieXL, @a-tribe-called-red, @ne-yo, @deltaheavy, @red-hot-chili-peppers, @rivertiber, @officialbmotion, @clammyclams, @rockstargames and the track of the week from @wearerivka

Episode 57 ~ Belgian picks me up hitchhiking, RIP Illinois rapper Deon Beamon | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:56:34

This week my car breaks down and I hitch with my surfboard back to Tofino~ 21:53 – I recorded a long-form conversation with Julie Walrant, a Belgian traveller, on my hitchhiking journey to Tofino. We covered the nature of freedom, our opinions on how to tap into frequencies of the universe and what stokes us out in life. The chat is broken up into three separate parts. 56:25 – Laina, our guest DJ from Episode 43 (Frequencyhorizon – Episode-43-tdot-2-tofino-laina-gabrienne-guestmix) sends us a few track selections. We’ll play them, but not before having a little fun first. 1:34:32 – Deon Beamon, the cousin of a friend I made travelling through Chicago, was shot and killed during an incident of senseless violence. The rapper, known as gotti_boa, had been running to get help at the time of the robbery gone wrong. We shout out the man and play a couple of his tracks that deserve to live on.  Episode 56 ~ Grandma I’m in jail; digital advertising world; car in the ditch | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:00:40

We get into the digital marketing side of things, interviewing former Exclaim! and Vice Canada staffer Missy Ross about how native advertising became a thing and ask her how she’s been enjoying the surfing life. [29:00] -I call my grandparents from “jail.” [1:07:17] -On my way back from Courtenay I happened upon a car in the ditch on a freezing cold night. I watched travellers band together to try to fix the situation, and witnessed some true Tofino spirit.
