 89 - Grave of the Greenbriar Ghost - Lewisburg, WV | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 57:47

After a midweek intervention and come-to-Jesus meeting, Amy joins Harley for episode 89, The Grave of the Greenbriar Ghost in Lewisburg West Virginia. On this episode of the Travel Oddities Podcast, we’re discussing how the after death visitations to her momma made this the only known case in which testimony from a ghost helped covict a murderer. Zona Heaster Shue had crap taste in men but a very keen sense of justice. We discuss the murder, burial and exumation of sweet young Zona as well as the accusation, trial, and conviction of her handsome a-hole husband Trout Shue. We descend 120 feet below Earth’s surface to visit the Lost World Caverns. Too hot for ya outside? Enjoy the 45 minute underground tour where the temperature is always 52 degrees. Patrons say the samll unassuming mom and pop joint ‘When Pigs Fly BBQ’ is some of the best bbq in the state of West Virginia. With a slogan like, “More meat falls off of our sandwich than the other guy puts on his.”, we say it’s worth a try. Sunday BBQ buffet? yes, please!!! Brett’s Top 5 is filled with jail time, food stamps, and the biggest family reunion in the US. We send out the love to Jayme Rae, Amy humbly apologizes to Nita for her blatant lack of Viking knowledge ……….and will somebody tell Denny ‘The Meme War King” Kish to call us? Dude is hilarious!  88 - Ghost of Lehunt - Independence, KS | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 56:23

Ummm, you are really going to love this episode. On this week’s episode, Brett and Amy take you on a trip to the plains of Kansas to investigate the ghost town of Lehunt, just outside of Independence. Travel with us as we investigate this once thriving community that dried up after the Portland Cement Company left. We also learn some dark secrets and hauntings that surround this town and the people that lived there. This town is locked, but you can request a key to enter legally. A sign on the gate that blocks the road to the former plant and gives vague instructions to get a key from the “engineers office” most likely a reference for the Corps of engineers who manage the nearby Elk city lake located on the other side of Table mound. This place is home to at least one ghost and the walls have their own stories to tell. We also discuss an awesome festival – Neewollah. That is Halloween backwards. The original reasons for this this celebration may have been backwards as well, but it has evolved into one of the most popular events in Kansas and an Oddity in its own right. No Episode of the Travel Oddities Podcast would be complete without a place to grab a bite, and we found, Brothers Railroad Inn. Brother’s features the secret recipes of the Conway family that for five generations since 1950 has refined and perfected the offerings of its family’s restaurant, first in Maryland and now in Independence, Kansas. Our defense against the dark arts is really powerful, so use with care. The Top 5 seems to be very food-centric….maybe somebody was hungry.  87 - Beast of Busco - Churubusco, IN | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:49

While Harley’s away, Brett and Amy will play. We test the bounds of our PG rating. On this week’s episode, Brett and Amy take you into the Indiana backwoods to look for the elusive Beast of Busco in Churobusco Indiana. Known as Turtle Town USA, Churobusco has one of the longest running cryptozoological festivals in America- “Turtle Days.” held annually in June. Seems like a lot of hub bub for a little ole turtle, but this legendary beast is bigger than a dining room table and weighs more than 500 pounds. Access to the Beast of Busco site of the sightings is on private property today. “No trespassing” signs are posted, so please check out the town, the local street art and the giant turtle shell at the local McDonald’s, but be respectful of the actual property. We discuss Little Turtle, AKA Michikinikwa, Miami people chief and military leader. No Episode of the Travel Oddities Podcast would be complete without a place to grab a bite, and we found a magical burger landmark decorated in clowns. Lots of clowns. Magic Wand Restaurant famous Indiana landmark that is also a family friendly diner. Of course they serve a mean Turtle sundae. The Top 5 just gets weirder as time goes by…maybe it’s just Brett. Cryptid Con is coming up very soon, so be sure to check their site if you are going to be in the area.  86 - Route 55: Indian Curse Road-Deptford, NJ | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 36:47

We have discovered some very interesting facts in our new studio. The most important fact is that our studio was built directly upon a tornado siren and they test this siren on Saturdays at noon. These tests appear to last about seventeen hours! On this episode Harley and Brett took a little trip down a cursed highway to the town of Deptford, NJ in Gloucester County. Before the construction of Route 55 in Deptford, the town was warned by an honest to goodness Native American Chief that this construction would disturb the ancestral spirits and that the construction should be rerouted. In accordance with all curse movies, this advice was completely ignored, and that is where the “fun” began. We discuss the travel appeal of the area and there will be an upcoming odd spot show to cover the Red Bank Battlefield as an ademdum to this show. We found an oddity inside of an oddity….Oddity Oddities? No episode of Travel Oddities would be complete without a great place to eat. We have found a great little Italian inspired restaurant that will make your mouth water. If you go to Cugini’s in Deptford, try the Cuginirotti and report back! The Travel Oddities Top Five includes every weird factoid about the state of New Jersey. Okay, that is a blatant lie, but we refuse to retract that statement, so just except it and share with your friends. Don’t let the fear of curses stop you from a vacation to Deptford. Harley has included a defense against curses that will leave you feeling so fresh and so clean, or maybe smelling like you run a head-shop. Amy is not on this episode, but that is okay, and we do not need any freak-outs by the Amy-Squad.  85 - Ghosts of Moon River Brewing - Savannah, GA | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 44:48

All settled in the new studio, we’re finally able to get to work. And by ‘work’, I mean eating candy, hitting up the neighboehood taco truck and debating what size coffee pot to buy. And somewhere in there we managed to throw together a fantastic new episode. Harley and Amy are talking beer, ethereal hookers, a-hole ball stealing kid ghosts and an honest to goodness speakeasy in the beautiful Savannah Georgia. A town even the highly destructive forces of Union General Sherman didn’t have the heart to destroy, Savannah has evolved into a dynamic city abuzz with art, festivals and culture. And yet it’s historic homes and cobblestone streets take you back to the bygone days of the antebellum south. We visit the Moon River Brewing Company whose spirits dont just come in a bottle. Violence, murder, war, women and booze have a funny way of creating the perfect recipe for a turbulent haunting. No episode of Travel Oddities would be complete without a great place to eat. We’re a little leary of the peanut butter and jelly wings at the Treylor Park but the Fancy Treylor Park Nachos make this eatery well worth the drive. Step back in time with a visit to the Mata Hari, one of the last true speak easy’s of it’s kind. Bribe the doorman or hit up Craig’s List for a key to enjoy sultry singers and classic burlesque while sipping on an absinthe cocktail. Give some Travel Oddities love to Kit (the owner) while you’re there. Brett’s soul stirring groundbreaking research for his Top Five destroys the misconceptions about the classic Georgia Peach myth. It’s almost time for Cryptid Con! It’s September 9th and 10th in Frankfort, Kentucky. Be sure to check out their website for all the latest updates. We have first hand accounts of sightings of Pinhead in a Pontiac Fiero in Chickasha Oklahoma and white Sinbad in OKC. Amy and Brett have kicked off our new Odd Spot format. On this episode, Brett and Amy opted for travel by circus train while discussing Ringling Circus Dead Memorial in Wahpeton,ND. This sad story had Amy on the brink of tears and Brett tried his hand at using words. The story of the circus performers and their untimely deaths is sad, but the monument built in their honor is beautiful. Give it a listen.  84 - Meriwether Lewis Conspiracy - Hohenwald, TN | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 49:43

Amy, Brett and Harley have been scheming and plotting lots of new material and formats for the show. On this week’s episode, Harley and Amy skip the travel by sea and opt for the sketchier Natchez Trace, a dangerous trail in a very remote area of Tennessee…or at least it used to be during the late 1700’s. Now the town of Hohenwald, TN is like a step back in time with a diverse mix of sites all packed into a small area – an Amish settlement and General Store, award-winning wineries, working Alpaca and horse farms, a 1960’s era commune and streams, waterfalls, and beautiful forests. We cover the conspiracy around the death of famed explorer, Meriwether Lewis of Lewis & Clark fame. The oddity of this conspiracy is that it seems to have been largely ignored by history The views from the Natchez Trace are incredible and the entire area is steeped in history. If you are planning a trip to visit the grave of Lewis, there is plenty of other things to do in the area…so make a few days of the trip.  83 - Haunted Red Onion Brothel - Skagway, AK | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:37

Amy, Brett and Harley have been slaving away for your listening pleasure. On this week’s episode, Harley and Amy took the a cruise to explore one of the coldest, darkest and most stunning places in the US, Skagway, AK. We discuss the Haunted Red Onion Brothel(also known as the Red Onion Saloon), and yes the haunting originates with a gold rush era lady of the night. This oddity is not the most spooky, but does include a few Travel Oddities firsts. The views are hugely responsible for the 900,000 annual tourists that stop into Skagway every year. Amy is actively trying to start a feud with another podcast or more specifically, a “toaster.” If you are planning a trip to Red Onion Brothel in Skagway, we have included some other activities in the area that should make the trip complete. No Episode of the Travel Oddities Podcast would be complete without a place to grab a bite, and the Sippin’ Sasquatch is a definite win. You can eat reindeer, moose, or you can just grab an espresso and a Squatch-Dog. Brett’s Alaska Top 5 is complete, but we have kept him in the basement until he finishes the rest of his homework.  82 - The Curse of Julia Brown - Manchac LA | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:26

We are almost back on track for our Monday release. Amy has a note from her Witch Doctor, so you cannot comment on her snotty sounds. On this week’s episode, Harley and Amy drop their kayaks into the swamp of Louisiana to explore one of the murkiest places in the US, Manchac, LA. We discuss the Curse of Julia Brown or Julia White or Julia Black. This curse was strong enough to tear through the entire state of Louisiana. This oddity is spooky by itself, but if you throw in alligators and giant mosquitoes, Amy won’t even consider an expedition. Cajun Pride Tours takes guests on tours of the swamp, the island where Julia Brown’s grave is located. The graveyard is on private land and can only be accessed on a Cajun Pride swamp tour. Harley wins the Father of the Year Award. If you are planning to travel to the grave site of Julia Brown or the Manchac Swamp, be sure to take the biggest bridge over a giant swamp thingy and watch out for the Rougarou…he is hangin’ out around here. The Travel Oddities Podcast team is willing to meet at Middendorf’s for some fried catfish…if you want to arrange the travel(and pay).  81 - Gallinipper - Averasboro, NC | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 40:51

Better bring the bug spray and join Amy and Harley investigate the Gallinipper as we explore the ghost town of Averasboro, NC. On this week’s episode, we have a ton of history on one of the weirdest cryptids we have ever covered. What is a Gallinipper? How about a man-sized mosquito that can drain all of your blood in one gulp. This oddity has a long and varied history with ties to Native American lore and connections to England and India. Although the town of Averasboro is all but defunct, you can still visit the area, and feed the mosquitos. You can also stop by the stump of the Gypsy Pine and maybe come face-to-face with a Genius Loci or Land Spirit. Amy tries to once again explain why she is a big baby that will let a few man-sized bugs keep her away from the experience of a lifetime. If you are planning a trip to North Carolina to search for the Gallinipper, bring some Raid, you are gonna need it! No Episode of the Travel Oddities Podcast would be complete without a place to grab a bite, and you really need to check out Fred Chason’s Grandsons for some hot-off-the-grill bar-b-que chicken and a tall glass of sweet tea.  Housekeeping 6/17/2017 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 9:10

On this episode of our new semi random housekeeping series, Harley and Brett get some old business out of the way. Housekeeping shows – Shows like this to keep you up to date on all of the latest from the Travel Oddities Team. Odd Spots – Shorter shows about places that are smaller in nature and don’t allow us to do a full show. Odd Challenge – Back by popular demand, the Odd Challenge. You spoke and we listened, and we will cover our Odd Challenges outside of the standard episode, so we can share all of the gory details without running into time contstraints. We also announce the winner of May’s Odd Box Giveaway. Oh, and by the way, Brett is back!

 80 - Dark Watchers - Big Sur, CA | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:10

Yes, we know the days of the week and that Wednesday is after Monday. Amy and Harley have the summertime allergies, so please forgive the snotty sounds. On this week’s episode, Harley and Amy get to the choppa to explore one of the most beautiful places in the US, Big Sur, CA. We discuss the Dark Watchers. Are these guys just the Hatman on vacation? This oddity is spooky, but don’t let that sway you from this gorgeous wildlife reserve. The views are one reason that Big Sur was ranked second among all United States destinations in TripAdvisor’s 2008 Travelers’ Choice Destination Awards. Amy explains why she is a big baby that will let a few bugs keep her away from the experience of a lifetime. If you are planning a trip to see the Dark Watchers in Big Sur, there has been some flooding and some of the roads are closed. Plan ahead or be a helicopter pilot.  79 - I-4 Dead Zone - Sanford, FL | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:11

Can you hear me now? On this week’s episode, Harley and Amy take the long way to the oddity that is the I-4 Dead Zone in Sanford, FL. ***Warning. We have some audio anomalies, and we are back to blaming gremlins*** This oddity is creepy. This oddity got its start in the pioneer days when an unnamed family was not given a proper burial due to fear of yellow fever. This family has haunted the area around the graves for over one hundred years, and for anyone that desecrates these graves, there is hell to pay. These graves are now under a major highway. Today there are tales of technology inexplicably failing in the area and ghostly voices over the radio. If you are near Sanford Florida you should watch out for ghostly hitchhikers and don’t veer off the path. We also discuss the town of Sanford. You can also visit for things other than the haunted highway. Sanford has one of the coolest zoos we have ever researched. No Episode of the Travel Oddities Podcast would be complete without a place to grab a bite, and The Smiling Bison fits the bill. Do or do not. There is no try. Harley decided to not try to pronounce any of the names involved in this episode. On this week’s episode, Harley and Amy travel the eight fold path that leads to The Ewam Garden of One Thousand Buddhas in Arlee, Montana. This oddity surprised us, and may be our favorite so far. It starts with in the mysterious mountains of Tibet and ends up in the beautiful mountains of Montana. We had a great interview with Deborah Hicks, the Ewam Media and Communications director. On top of handling the communications of the Garden, Deborah is a ten year student of Gochen Tulku Sang-ngag Rinpoche, and an accomplished musician. We discuss Arlee, MT. If you go, there will not be a shortage of beautiful vistas and nature at it’s finest. No Episode of the Travel Oddities Podcast would be complete without a place to grab a bite, and we got everything we could of asked for in the Hangin Art Gallery.
