 Episode 64 - It's Popcorn Time Again...Again! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:36

Popcorn sales for the 2018-2019 Scouting season won't start for a few months, but Groups should begin preparing now. ----more----Subscribe: iTunes | Google Play | Android | TuneIn Radio | Stitcher | AnchorDownload episode: MP3 Podcast Topics Scouter Mike and Scouter Carolyn, the popcorn fundraising champions from Scouts Canada's Battlefields Council, join Scouter Ken yet again for an introduction to next year's Scout Popcorn fundraising campaign. A lot has changed since last year: the lanyards and pins that served as rewards for achieving particular milestones in popcorn sales have gone away, and instead, Scout Groups can get a 20% discount on items at their local Scout Shop that they intend to use as popcorn prizes (if you bring in this form). The product line is mostly the same, thankfully; Scout Popcorn is nothing if not delicious just as it is. The packaging has changed a bit, however. As well, the Popcorn Campaign Kit is now available in an entirely digital format; it includes the order form, goal-setting sheets, thank you notes (something Scouter Ken's group had been doing on their own for a while), sample scripts, scholarship information, incentive information, and a review template to be used during and after the campaign to get feedback on how popcorn sales went for your Group. Shout-Outs As always, a big thank you to the folks at Scouting Radio for rebroadcasting Scouting Stuff episodes to their worldwide Scouting audience.  Episode 63 - All Over the Map | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:11:12

What starts as a discussion about recent policy and name changes in Boy Scouts of America soon ends up ranging over many other topics. ----more----Subscribe: iTunes | Google Play | Android | TuneIn Radio | Stitcher | AnchorDownload episode: MP3 Podcast Topics Scouter Ken is joined again by Parker, an Eagle Scout and assistant Scoutmaster in Boy Scouts of America, initially to discuss the recent program and name changes that the BSA have announced and/or implemented. However, the conversation ends up ranging over a number of topics, including popcorn as a fundraising vehicle, volunteer burnout, transition planning and new Scouter onboarding, and many other things. Also, something interesting happened on the Canadian iTunes podcast charts, in the Government & Organizations category: Thank you to everyone who listens to our humble little attempt at a Scouting podcast; we really do appreciate your support. And thanks for elevating us, at least for a while, into the Top 10 (in Canada, at any rate); we even topped Bernie Sanders for a while! Shout-Outs Firstly, here's a somewhat overdue shout-out to Iona and other Scouters from the 1st Kinosoo (Cold Lake) group, several of whom approached Scouter Ken at the recent Beaver Hills/Rivers Edge Cuboree. Secondly, to Colin Williston, another listener, who introduced himself to Ken at the recent Alberta Damboree (which we'll have to talk more about in a later episode). Third, to Dawn from the 264th Sommerset group. She might not be a listener, but she and Ken had a lively discussion about badge trading while Ken was running a badge trading activity at Damboree. Also, to Gareth Edwards Lloyd-Tolman, for posting the following question in the 1FBSG: Is there anyway I can directly download this podcast cast as an mp3? Answer: yes, from now on we will post links for direct MP3 downloads in the show notes at ScoutingStuffPodcast.com. Scouter Eric, one of the advisors for the Northern Lights Medical Venturers, left us a 5-star review on Facebook: So much good info to binge on...Also love getting to know a bit more about BSA stuff (even though this is a Canadian podcast) Thanks for the review, Eric! And Scouter Corey, who has been on the podcast before, sent a link to the podcast's Instagram account. Click on through to see a lashed-together, water wheel-powered rotisserie; now that's camp cooking! Finally, Parker would like to give a shout-out to Troop 216, his troop; they're based out of Frisco, Texas. And, as always, a big thank you to the folks at Scouting Radio for rebroadcasting Scouting Stuff episodes to their worldwide Scouting audience. Our aim is still to have a new episode coming out this week, but if not, please be patient; Scouter Ken's schedule should be quieting down a bit after this week, which will hopefully allow the podcast to return to its regular bi-weekly release cycle.  Episode 62 - First Aid Planning & Training Drills | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:45

With special guests from the Northern Lights Medical Venturers! ----more---- Subscribe: iTunes | Google Play | Android | TuneIn Radio | Stitcher | Anchor Download episode:  MP3 Podcast Topics Eric and Bella, an advisor and a squad leader from the Northern Lights Medical Venturers (find them on Facebook or Instagram!) join Scouter Ken to discuss some of their experiences at the recent Beaver Hills/Rivers Edge Cuboree. Not only did the MedVents provide first aid support at the Cuboree, they also used it as a training opportunity...springing a surprise on the junior MedVents and the Offers of Service that were working security at the site. And one of Ken's own Cub Scouts volunteered to be the victim in the scenario! Also discussed is how to plan for first aid at a large summer event, and what to encourage Scouters from attending groups to do in advance to help minimize the risk that one of their youth will need first aid for something that really should have been preventable. Shout-Outs Firstly, a long overdue shout-out to Iona, who wrote in regarding badges: Have you thought about badges yet? I know like you don’t have enough crazy in your life. But seriously I am a badge person and would buy them. You have the image already that you use for your podcast and if you list them to sell before you make them, you might be surprised from the response(even if badges are a North American thing).Think about it.Thanks IonaDo love your podcasts. Ken actually got to meet Iona in person at Cuboree. And, yes, a badge design is being worked on...slowly. How this badge will be made available is still a bit up in the air, but rest assured: an SSYSK crest is in the works! Eric, meanwhile, wanted to give a shout-out to Chris at ArrKann Trailer & R.V. Centre in Edmonton, Alberta; he generously provided a trailer for the MedVents to stay in whilst at Cuboree. And as always, a big thank you to the folks at Scouting Radio for rebroadcasting Scouting Stuff episodes to their worldwide Scouting audience. We'll be doing a follow-up episode about this camp, possibly two; I'm going to see if I can arrange to have the camp organizers on the show, and Eric (the advisor for the Northern Lights Medical Venturers, who has been on the show a couple of times before) has likewise expressed interest in doing a debrief about the camp. For now, it will suffice to say that it was a fantastic time for just about everyone involved, and if you want to see some pictures from the event you can check out either the Scouting Stuff or 59th Greenfield/Royal Gardens Scout Group pages on Instagram.  Episode 61 - Tinders | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 44:20

A discussion of tinders — natural and artificial — and their relative effectiveness. No swiping required! ----more---- Subscribe: iTunes | Google Play | Android | TuneIn Radio | Stitcher | Anchor Podcast Topics Ken and Colin discuss tinders — that is, aids to fire-starting — both natural and artificial, with a particular eye toward which ones might work best when one is attempting to light them with flint and steel. Link of Note: The 10 Best Natural Tinders You Can Find In a Forest Shout-Outs We have a pair of shout-outs to offer this week. The first goes to Scouter Colin from the 264th Somerset-Bridlewood Scout Group in Calgary, Alberta. He posted a comment on the Facebook post for our most recent episode, noting that his group — sponsored, as it is, by the Rotary Club — has a Rotary Club badge on the back of its neckers. And our second shout-out goes to Norma, who pointed out that Beaver Scouts in Canada — might like Cub Scouts in the BSA — do actually have a common necker that they can wear, instead of their Group necker. This used to be a borderless, sky-blue fabric, but the current iteration is somewhat more tartan-like in colour, with a dark border.
