When Jesus started gathering followers and baptizing them, it raised some questions for the disciples of John the Baptist. How did John answer those questions? What relevance does it have for us as believers today? This is part of a larger series called "The Gospels: Examining the God-Man." People of the Free Gift exists to ground believers in their identity in Christ and equip them to reach those caught in religion. "Freely you have received, freely give." - Jesus
This is a QA Session for the "Understanding the Cults" class for Bethel Seminary San Diego's In-Ministry, J-term program.
In the effort to discuss grace in the context of rewards, inheritance, crowns and ruling reigning with Christ, most Christians find themselves at a loss to show how what the Bible teaches on this subject is any different than what the cults teach with their different levels of heaven and glory, or the concept of becoming a god. This podcast discusses the idea of stunted grace, or gifts that God has already given believers that we don't receive, either because we're unaware of them, try to earn them, want them for the wrong reasons, or simply reject them. These short term missed gifts have eternal consequences of suffering loss, allowing others to steal our crown, or abstaining from our reward. This podcast is part of the Understanding the Cults class for Bethel Seminary's San Diego's J-term, In-ministry program.
When sharing the gospel with cults, members of other religions, or atheists and agnostics, it is important to clarify the core of what is required to believe and/or practice in order to be considered Christian. What is the gospel? What things can an individual or organization believe or not believe and still consider themselves "Christian?" I think my answer may shock some of you. This podcast is part of the Understanding the Cults class for Bethel Seminary San Diego's J-term, In-Ministry class.
What do you do as a Christian when a member of a pseudo-Christian group says, "I'm a Christian Too!" One way to deal with this is to take them at their word, assuming that Jesus is your common ground, and invite them into a conversation. This tactic teaches you how to use this as a springboard to invite them into a conversation based on the gospels, focusing on the events of Jesus' life and His teachings. This is part of the teachings for session 2 of the Understanding the Cults class for the J-term, In-Ministry program at Bethel Seminary San Diego.
This is an edited version of an episode of Shawn McCraney's Heart of the Matter show from 2012 when he had Christopher Nemelka on. Christopher Nemelka claims to have translated the "sealed portion" of the Book of Mormon. In the process of interviewing Nemelka, Shawn McCraney brings out 6 common traits that almost every cult leader has in common. This episode is part of the Understanding the Cults class for Bethel Seminary San Diego's J-term for their In-Ministry program.

In John 15, Jesus, speaking to His disciples, used a metaphor of the relationship between vines, vinedressers, branches and fruit. It is my contention that most interpretations and applications of this passage fall way outside of anything you would ever see in relation to the metaphor Jesus was using. In this message, we take a look at four things I've never seen in relation to Vines, Vinedressers, Branches and Fruit. Note: We have now reached the 550 download mark, and all I have to say to that is "Thank You."
