Liber8: a Continuum Podcast

Moral grey areas widen and the virtues of instinct over implanted tech all come to the forefront in this episode, which celebrates the return of Kagame! The sci-fi procedural becomes a new genre in this episode, which is distinguished by the amazing fight scene between Curtis, Carlos, and Kiera. Mike and Dave break down Kellog's motivations and laugh at Alec's funny moments in this podcast. The REBOOT begins with our discussion of one of the best episodes of the season, the premiere (as seen by the Syfy audience in the US)! Those who already listened to our earlier episodes should treat this as the start of their rewatch as we inch closer to Season 2 in Canada. Features include Sci Fi News, The Weekly Nitpick, Predictions (in their original form), and - new for the reboot - Life in 2077.

Time travel appears even in sci-fi shows that aren't strictly about time travel. Mike & Dave talk about some of their favorite representative time travel episodes from series that used the narrative technique quite a bit. We went with Andromeda 1x06: Angel Dark, Demon Bright; Dr. Who 3x10: Blink, and Star Trek 1x19: Tomorrow Is Yesterday.

Inspector Dillon is a pretty nice boss; he let's Carlos get away with just about everything. Actor Brian Markinson, who plays Dillon, is equally nice, and he was gracious enough to join us for a Skype interview to discuss his penchant for guest roles on a myriad of shows, sci-fi and otherwise, as well as some of his more memorable movie, television, and stage roles. And the good news is, this interview is spoiler-free, even for the U.S. audience.

Most Continuum fans also have enjoyed at least two or three of the shows that were highlighted on the Syfy 20th Anniversary Special, and this two-hour spectacular featured such favorites as Stargate SG-1, Farscape, Battlestar Galactica, Warehouse 13, Sanctuary, Lost Girl, and many more. Nostalgia for the "golden age" of the network got us psyched for Continuum to join the line-up. NOTE: You do not need to have seen the Special in order to enjoy this podcast! Sci-fi rewind time as Mike & Dave explore the classic 1966 series, The Time Tunnel, as well as the 1994 Van Damme blockbuster, Timecop. Go back in time as we discuss the different time travel rules, the actors' other roles, and the ups and downs of the shows themselves. No one does it like Continuum, but it's interesting how much you can do with the sci-fi sub-genre of time travel.

This Battlestar Galactica prequel is a winner straight out of the gate! Mike and Dave are old fans of the re-imagined series and Caprica, and they couldn't be happier about discussing this show that reignites enthusiasm for the familiar universe. Webisodes are viewable on the Machinima Prime YouTube channel and will eventually be available on DVD and on Syfy. // //

Even though the first season of Arrow is only on its fifth episode at this point, there's still plenty to talk about! And since the show has already been renewed, we are optimistic that it's headed in the right direction. Mike and Dave discuss the admirable complexity of this superhero chronicle along with other more general sci-fi news. // //

Another Liber8 member agrees to chat with Mike and Dave! This time, sci-fi veteran Lexa Doig a.k.a. "The Queen of Hearts," Sonya Valentine, chatted with us about everything from her skills with techno-babble to her anxieties about Twitter. If it seems like we have a preference for interviewing the terrori-- er, freedom fighters, don't worry. Hopefully, we'll hear from the good guys (?) soon enough!

Looper is full of great things to nitpick, both in the joyful sci-fi fan fashion and in the more critical sense. Mike and Dave felt right at home analyzing the Rian Johnson movie, and they felt a bit nostalgic as they discussed representative quotes from each of the ten season 1 episodes of Continuum. Just a casual sci-fi TV discussion in this edition of the podcast. Season 2 of Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles takes an unexpected turn as the guys try to stretch out their enjoyment of this canceled show; Mike has a few questions for Dave about Fringe; and NBC's Revolution becomes the main topic as the show becomes increasingly enticing. Matthew Kellog is someone we'd all like to interrogate a bit, to be honest. You can really tell Stephen Lobo loves the role, and who wouldn't? He's not even the guy you love to hate; you just love him for being who he is. We spoke about Stephen's other projects, too, including Arctic Air, for which he's currently filming season two.
