 Dry Fire – 66 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:05:31

What is dry fire? It's not sitting on the couch watching TV, unless you are only working on your trigger press. Focus on what you are doing, and put up a target (see if you can snag an old one from a match) You can also print out a 1/3 scale target to use indoors Put on your gear Set aside time Use a par timer Par time is a specific function of a timer. It'll give you a start beep, and an end beep after a specified amount of time. There's a lot of smartphone apps out there for dry-fire. Some are free, some aren't, but here's what we recommend: iOS Users DryFireTimer SureFire Shot Timer (It's an actual shot timer, but it'll do) Android Users IPSC Shot Timer Soon there will be the "unnamed dry fire drill timer app" that Ben announced he's working on. Email him suggested names for the app or if you want to be a beta tester to ben@triangletactical.net Buying a real shot timer The advantage of a real shot timer is that it'll work for live fire as well, but they are expensive, and don't store multiple drills like some of the apps do. Keep a log of your drills, times, etc When you practice, have a defined drill that you are working on. Draws, reloads, turn and draw, transitions, etc. The main thing I’ve been practicing is the visual patience to wait for your front sight and then press the trigger. Draws and reloads are the next best thing since you don’t have recoil. I promised that I would do some dry fire stuff on Instagram this week, so if you aren't following us over there, you should be. The News! Oklahoma Senator proposes a 'Piers Morgan' bill that will allow for permitless open carry in the state. It modifies the current law in the state by adding a portion to the law that says the following: 7. When carried in a holster that is wholly or partially visible or in a scabbard, case or with a sling designed for carrying firearms that is wholly or partially visible and the person is eighteen (18) years of age or older. Any person who carries a Req. No. 2037 Page 2 firearm in the manner provided for in this paragraph shall be prohibited from carrying the firearm into any of the places prescribed in subsection A of Section 1277 of this title; Connecticut legislators are pushing for an amnesty bill for citizens who failed to register their "assault weapons" and magazines. Turns out they only had about 1% of the guns registered that they were expecting by the January 1 deadline. Is this civil disobedience? There was a murder/suicide at a shopping mall in Maryland recently. The media is again pushing this as some sort of a mass shooting, but it wasn't. Plug of the Week: Hardcore History Podcast with Dan Carlin It's not a gun podcast, but it seems like everyone who likes our show, also likes Hardcore History, so you should check it out. I found the 'Wrath of the Kahns' series quite captivating, and I'm not really a big history buff. Tip of the Week: Short stages aren’t the time to “burn it down”.  SHOT Show – Good, Bad, and Ugly – 65 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:08:34

There were a few really good things introduced at SHOT show, some not so great things, and some just strange things. The Good: Appleseed Ready 10/22 from Ruger XDs 4.0 from Springfield Armory The Bad: Taurus View Revolver Kel-Tec Bullpup Rifles (They might be great, but what are the chances we'll be able to buy one in store in the next 12 months?) The Ugly: Rail mounted pepper spray Remington R51. Yep. The News! (What you missed while following all the SHOT Show news last week) Florida CCW Permit holder accosted by police in Maryland for having a permit. No gun present. The takeaway from this is to keep your mouth shut. There is a Constitutional Carry bill working it's way through the SC legislature. According to the Palmetto Gun Rights Facebook Page, the bill originated in the House, was sent to the Senate where some technical changes were made, and is back in the House. It's on the agenda for TUESDAY, JANUARY 21, 2014. If you are in SC, call your legislators on Monday and leave voicemails, and call and email again on Tuesday to try and get this bill pushed forward. This has the potential to be a HUGE win for y'all! Ruger announced that they will stop selling semiautomatic handguns in California due to the microstamping law. What's interesting about this is that Ben did about 2 hours of research before we recorded the episode, and we can't find how this will effect their pistol models that are already on the California approved list, yet they are ceasing sales of them anyways. There's a new anti-gun meme that you might begin to hear and that's the term "ghost guns". A California state senator had a pretty awesome clip where he talks about the "30 magazine clip" and "30 caliber clip" in an AR-15 that can fire 30 bullets in a 1/2 second. All this to tell you that California is attempting to ban home built firearms since they aren't serialized, hence the term "ghost guns".  Skills vs. Tools Again – 64 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:57

Last week I wrote a blog post about the difference between skills and tools. A lot of you emailed me and commented on the post so we decided to talk a little more about it on the podcast. The News! Sen. John Cornyn and Lindsey Graham are set to introduce the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2014 in a matter of hours from this podcast being posted. It sounds all fine and good, but I've received word that there may be a backdoor in this legislation relating to Obama's "Executive Actions" that we talked about in Episode 63. Unfortunately this bill hasn't been introduced yet, so we don't have the full text of it, but as soon as we get it, we'll go through it and give our opinion. The owner of "Golden Triangle Tactical" in Texas (which as far as I can tell is a gun store, located in a shopping mall) was arrested recently for open carrying his AR-15 through the mall to his store. Since then, the mall has posted up No Firearms signage. The City of Chicago's ban on gun sales within the city has been overturned by a federal court judge. Boom. Plug of the Week: This week we plugged The Gun Feed. It's a great website that is basically the Drudge report for guns. It's updated with news headlines about guns all day long, and recently they have featured several of our articles. Subscribe to them in your feed reader, or check out their website. Tip of the Week: Ben talks about making changes slowly. Whether it be your training regimen, your gear, or whatever. If you change too much at once, some wins/losses might get drowned out by other things.  New Year News Roundup – 63 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 57:04

After taking last week off from recording, this week we wrap up some of the big news stories that have went down since our last episode: The News! Glock has announced the Glock 41 and Glock 42. Our thoughts are a solid 'meh' on both of these. We've talked a lot about the Glock 42, but the Glock 41 is equally unappealing to me. The Glock 41 will be a "practical tactical" sized .45ACP. Basically a Glock 34 in .45. Many are talking about how great this will be for competition, but we aren't sure what kind of competition that is... We mentioned Mas Ayoob's video about the Glock 42 where his trigger pull measurement on the G42 is just a bit higher than the 5.5lbs advertised by Glock... Remington has announced the R51 pistol, which unlike Glock appears to be an absolute home run for singlestack 9mm concealed carry pistols. President Obama is announcing some "executive actions" on gun control. Essentially what is happening here is there are some states who aren't sending information to the NICS background check system because they believe that would be in violation of the HIPAA privacy laws. The Obama administration is just coming out clarifying that the information wouldn't violate HIPAA, and they won't enforce it if it does. Keep in mind, these aren't Executive Orders, they are "executive actions" which are essentially nothing more than a press release. The citizens of Connecticut have become subject to a new law that is bound to make many otherwise law abiding citizens into felons. As of January 1, 2014 citizens of Connecticut need to have registered their "high capacity" magazines, and their now illegal "assault weapons" with the state. The kicker here is that magazines aren't serialized, so I'm not sure how they plan on enforcing the registration law. As we all know, this won't have any effect on crime, other than turning otherwise law abiding gun owners into felons. The Misguided Moms were purchased by Bloomberg's Illegal Mayors recently. This isn't really newsworthy, but I can't help but think that the only reason they did this is because they are broke, and they need Mike's money to stay afloat. We'll see what the future brings, but I'm not expecting much more than whining, and playing to the press from these folks. Magpul has announced that they are finally packing up and leaving Colorado. Their HQ is headed to Texas, and they are temporarily moving their manufacturing stuff into a pre-existing building in Wyoming while they build their own plant in WY as well. Colorado Democrats are starting to catch the fallout from the state losing an $80 million/year business... Plug of the Week: This week we plugged the Carolina Shooters Club Community. Ben and I are both Staff Writers over there now, so you'll be seeing some gear reviews from us and other stuff over the year. Make sure that you either sign up and follow the forum over there, or get on the Triangle Tactical email list so you get all of our posts when we post them. (Side Note: If you follow us on Facebook, you probably aren't seeing all that many of our posts. Facebook changed their algorithm recently and they want us to pay for people who have already 'liked' our page to see our posts. Yeah... with all the money I'm making from this site... riiight) Tip of the Week: Back to basics this week. Evaluate your daily routine and make sure that you aren't cutting any corners when it comes to gun safety, especially if you are in any position of influence. Notice in the new Glock 42 announcement video the person doing the talking muzzle sweeps his fingers a few times, and then at the end points it right at his stomach. Mas Ayoob on the other hand shows us the pistol in a completely safe manner. I'm pretty disappointed that Glock would allow this video to get published with this sloppy gun handling. Don't be Glock.  2013 Greatest Hits – Ep.62 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 57:37

In this episode I re-play some of the best clips and interviews that we did throughout 2013: I start off the show with a clip from Sean Sorrentino, all the way back in Episode 17. At the time we were pushing to get restaurant carry here in NC, and Sean tells a really compelling story about the Luigi's massacre in Fayetteville, NC that his friends were involved in. Next I play a clip from Episode 30, where we talk to Bob the new shooter (who later came back on the show in Episode 45). Bob, Ben, and I talk about what it's like to be a new shooter in the current political climate, why Bob decided to buy a gun, and where he plans to go with it. Then we queue up the main segment from Episode 24, where we talk about why you shouldn't self identify with the gun you shoot. Being a "Glock guy" or a "1911 guy" or whatever really limits you. Lastly I finished the episode with some uncensored bloopers from the past year. Everything after the 52 minute mark is filth, so if you have children, or you're offended by that sort of thing, you should stop the episode after you hear me sign off.

 2013 Year in Review – Ep.61 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:38

2013 was a pretty awesome year for the Triangle Tactical Podcast! In this episode we go through many of interviews, top news stories, and other things that happened this year! Huge thanks to everyone who came on the show, sent us emails, liked the Facebook page, or said "Hi" on the range! Interview Episodes: Sean Sorrentino - Episode 17 - Why we need restaurant carry in NC Sean Sorrentino - HB937 Bonus Episode Interview with a new shooter - Bob Bob comes back for a 6ish month follow up Paul from FrontlineDefenseUSA.com Bill Edwards from Triangle Shooting Academy Charles from HumbleMechanic.com - Vehicle Preps Andrew David Jones - NCSU Gun Education Day The News! We mentioned in the intro of the show that the NC Misguided Moms had posted a picture of a restaurant with their Misguided Moms branded no-guns signage. Cerberus has announced that they "failed to find a buyer" for Freedom Group recently. This is interesting because they had announced that they would be selling Freedom Group after the Newtown shooting. Turns out Freedom Group has been making money hand over fist, so instead of selling the group, they just bought out the vocal minority of stockholders and sent them on their way. Plug of the Week: Sean was on Episode 85 of the Squirrel Report podcast. If you want to hear his account of getting kicked out of the Misguided Moms "vigil" in Durham, you should check it out. Also, if you like sammiches, guns, booze, and bad Christmas movies, you should go subscribe to the Squirrel Report too.  Shot in the Butt – Ep.60 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:10

Day-Night-Day Match Thoughts: Ben and I spent the weekend shooting the Day-Night-Day match at The Range in Oxford, NC. The match was a day match on Saturday morning, a night match on Saturday night, and a day match again on Sunday. Of course the night match was the most interesting part. We both shot with handheld lights, and this posed some unique challenges for each of us. We had to deal with a bit of endurance to shoot all of the matches. There was a relatively small turnout because of the rain, but it was still 3 matches in 2 days. There were definitely some lighting challenges that we had to deal with, like glare, fog, ambient light, and other things. This kind of match definitely challenged us, and made me want to get more low-light practice with my concealed carry gear. It was cold, and wet. Dealing with this was something that separated the men from the boys. The News! Sean Sorrentino from NCGunBlog.com tried to attend the Misguided Moms "vigil" at a Durham church on the 1yr anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting. Upon entering Sean was recognized by one of the event organizers, and asked to leave. What's interesting about this is that all of the news about the anti-gun rally vigil focused on Sean being respectful and leaving when asked, and not really on the vigil itself. Well done Sean! ABC11 had some coverage of the event. Notice the tight camera angle used when shooting inside the church so you can't see how big/small the crowd was. The N&O noted that Sean was polite, and didn't cause a scene. The Arapahoe school shooting that took place this past week was stopped by a police officer who had... A GUN! Interesting how no matter how many laws we pass, these things still happen, yet in EVERY CASE when they are approached by someone with a gun, they off themselves and the situation ends. Bravo to the responding officer and school administrators who ran toward the gunfire. NC DGU: Monroe, NC - A man was attacked in the parking lot at work, being pistol whipped in the face by two thugs. He accessed his concealed handgun and shot both of the subjects in the butt, and one also caught a bullet in each arm. He then collected the thugs guns, and got out of the area and called the police. We're now being told that he won't be charged, and both of the thugs will hopefully be on their way back to prison soon. Plug of the Week: Hothands2 hand warmers. If you can't wear gloves because you have to help paste targets between shooters, having a couple of these bad boys in your pockets will help keep your hands nice and toasty when it becomes your turn to shoot. Tip of the Week: We always talk about how important dry-fire is, but there comes a time when it's important to practice with live fire as well. During the night portion of the match I was using a really interesting technique to hold the flashlight with the pistol. It worked well as it allowed me to get my support hand on the pistol so I could shoot quickly, until on one particular stage my light kept bumping my magazine release on the pistol in the dark. I kept tapping and racking the pistol to get it back into action, and it wasn't until after I finished the stage that I realized what was happening.  Undetectable Firearms – Ep.59 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 50:52

I had a chance to record a quick interview this week with David Jones who organized the Gun Education Day that Ben and I attended a couple weeks back. I thought the way the event was organized, and how everything came about with it. It actually started with David presenting an olive branch to someone who had an opposing view on guns, by offering to take this person shooting so they could draw their own conclusion, and from there it snowballed into an awesome event for many people to try shooting for the first time. The News! The Federal 'Undetectable Firearms Act' is due to be renewed as of the day this episode is released, and there's some shenanigans going on. The bill was originally written in 1988, and sunsets every 10 years, so it's been renewed a couple of times. In the past nobody really put up any opposition to the bill because it didn't actually ban anything. The bill specifies that firearms need to have a certain amount of steel in them (I believe it's 3.5oz). With the development of 3D printing over the past couple of years, anti-gun Senator Chuck Shumer is trying to pander to the media into making people believe things that arent true in order to turn this bill into something insidious. As of right now, he's pushing to get the bill extended in it's current form for 1 year in order to push his agenda after the 2014 mid term elections where he will be more likely to get support from his counterparts. NC Senator Kay Hagan is playing both sides of the gun issue. On one hand she's pushing a bill called the SPORT Act (Sportsmen's and Public Outdoor Recreation Traditions) which is supposed to be a bill that will help secure land for hunting, and funding for public shooting ranges on public land. We've skimmed the bill, and I don't see anything particularly wrong with it. However, in recent days it has come out that Gabby Giffords has a new PAC which she will be using to give money to anti gun politicians running for re-election. Can you guess who's on the payroll? There's a LOT of speculation floating around the internet about the supposed Glock 41 and Glock 42 which will supposedly be released at SHOT show in January. I'm thinking the unicorn Glock 42 will be a singlestack 9mm Glock. Listener Feedback: Tons of emails from listeners this week! Thanks for the support, it really helps keep us motivated to keep recording  episodes. We're definitely not making any money doing this, so knowing that y'all are out there listening is huge! Tip Of The Week: It's important to call your shots on steel targets and know where you hit before watching for the steel to fall, or hearing the sound of bullet impact. Ben shot a USPSA classifier this weekend (CM99-62 Bang and Clang) where this was really important if you wanted to get a good score.  Anti-Gun Vandalism and Holiday Travel – Ep.58 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 50:31

It's the holiday season, and many of us will be doing some traveling to see family. In addition to keeping a certain level of OPSEC regarding our travel plans, and having a car kit, there's a couple other considerations you should make: Have a 'get home gun'. When you are on the road, chances are you may be a long way from help, and if god forbid you need a gun, having a fullsize pistol, rifle, or other gun bigger than your normal CCW pistol is probably a good idea. Additionally, if you are like Ben, you might run into a shooting match while you are out of town and want to go shoot. If traveling across state lines, check the laws in the state you are traveling to, or traveling through. Ben and I have both used Handgunlaw.us with good success. (If interested, you should check out Episode 254 of the HandgunWorld Podcast where Bob Mayne interviewed Gary Slider from Handgunlaw.us) You should consider getting some road flares to keep in your trunk. A friend was recently stranded on the side of I-95, and he posted on Facebook that he has found he gets a much wider berth from passing traffic when he uses a flare instead of a reflector when he's broke down. From the NCGunOwners.com webforum, a CCW holder was buying some chicken wings at a local NC chicken place, and he noticed that the business was signed "no guns". He mentioned it to the manager, who got the owner, and it turns out a person who frequents the business took it upon them self to go ahead and place the sign on the front of the building without consulting the business owner. Guess what? Another person in the same thread is reporting that something similar happened at a local EarthFare grocery store. The lesson here is that it makes sense to open a dialogue with a business that you notice is recently posted. Don't just assume they put the sign there and never go there again, let them know that you noticed the sign, and why you won't be back. The News! The Philadelphia City Council passed a ban on manufacturing guns, and gun parts in the city with a 3D printer if you don't have a FFL. This effects exactly zero people. A new gun law took effect in NC today, which makes it illegal to "discharge a firearm inside an enclosure to incite fear". I feel like this will either be used to charge people who take warning shots at criminals, or it will be used as an add-on charge for people who discharge a firearm while committing a robbery. Definitely one to keep an eye on. Colorado State Senator Evie Hudak resigned her seat in the Colorado state Senate recently. You may remember Hudak from this unbelievable exchange during a committee hearing when they were ramrodding the crazy anti-gun laws through the legislature. Her resignation is a procedural move in order to keep her seat in Democrat hands, because had her seat been turned over to a Republican, the Republican party would have gained the majority in the state Senate. The good news is that she was obviously certain that she would lose her seat in the election, which says to me that in 2014, the people of Colorado shouldn't have much trouble taking their state back. Tip Of The Week: I stole this tip from the most recent episode of Tom Gresham's Gun Talk: When hitting the range with friends, or going hunting with others, have a quick safety brief before you get started. Even just a quick rundown of the 4 safety rules will put it in everyones head, and if anyone has questions, it will bring them to light. Safety is #1, don't forget it.  Gun Education Day – Ep.57 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 49:28

Today Ben and I had the opportunity to attend the Gun Education Day at North Carolina State University which was organized by some students to allow those who do not have experience with guns to learn some gun safety, and have the opportunity to shoot a gun. The day started with a safety brief with blue guns on the NCSU campus, and followed up with a range trip on a private farm outside of town. Mrgunsngear from YouTube was at the event, and he brought out all of his toys for the shooters to play with. Hit us up on Instagram or Facebook to find some more pictures from the event. I'll be posting more pictures over the next few days as I unload them from my SD card. The News! News stories about the "Knockout Game" have been making their way around the internet. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) some of them aren't accurate, and others are downright made up. Either way, the scary thing about these situations is that just carrying a concealed handgun won't help you. If you get sucker punched and knocked out cold, your pistol doesn't do you any good. Keep your head on a swivel, and be proactive when you are put in a potentially dangerous situation. You can always cross the street, or take up a posture that doesn't make you look like a victim. Plug Of The Week: This week Ben plugged Blade HQ. He ordered his new Benchmade Mini Griptillian from them, and not only did they have a great price after all of the promotions they were offering, they also shipped the knife quick. Full Disclosure: I'm a Blade HQ affiliate, so if you visit BladeHQ.com and do some shopping with them, we'll get a small commission to help support the show. Tip Of The Week: Don't be like me! When you are going out on a range trip, bring some dang guns! I left all of my fun guns and ammo at home today, not thinking that I would have time to shoot them. Guess what? I would have had plenty of time, and it would have only taken me an extra couple minutes to pack some more guns in the car.  Gear Mods – Ep.56 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:34

This week we talked about gear modifications, and how to go about modifying different gear. Many times we just throw money at a problem that we have with a certain item (like a holster, or sights, etc.) but does it make sense just to replace gear when we can maybe modify our current gear to suit our needs? I'm definitely a tinkerer, and I like to mess around with my gear. The trouble is, as with most things you have to decide when enough is enough. Some time back I modified my S&W M&P Pro sights to mimic the sight picture of my Sevigny Competition sights that I was running on my Glock 17. When doing this modification, I had to be really careful just remove enough material, and to be satisfied when enough was enough. Figuring out when enough is enough seems to be the trick when it comes to most things with guns. Whether it's taking a slice of kydex off of a holster, or opening the rear sight notch on a pair of sights. The News! "It's like a law against unicorns" -Ben The Federal "Undetectable Firearms Act" is rearing it's ugly head again. This is a law that was passed a long time ago in response to the plastic Glock handguns hitting the market, but it doesn't really ban any actual guns at this time. Politicians like Chucky Shumer are pushing to renew the law again (it expires on Dec. 9th 2013). Normally I wouldn't get my panties in a wad about this law, since it doesn't ban anything really, but now were living in the world of 3D printed guns, polymer lower receivers, and more, and I think it's time for this law to sunset. I'm not getting too fired up about it, but I'd definitely like to see it go. Plug Of The Week: This weekend (Nov. 23 2013) H2o Fowl Farms in Dunn, NC has teamed up with Allen from Tarheel Targets to host a 2-Gun Rimfire match benefiting Toys for Tots. It's a good cause, and an easy match to shoot. You should check it out. Also, The Day-Night-Day match is coming up in December. Mark your calendars now... Oh, and by the way, the Triangle Tactical Shooting Sports Calendar is back. I found some awesome software for it, and you should check it out. Tip Of The Week: Keep some tools in your range bag! Simple things like small screwdrivers and squib sticks are super handy on the range!  Check Your Local Knife Laws – Ep.55 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 53:07

As concealed carriers, we're spoiled in many states when it comes to concealed carry and firearms laws. As it turns out, there's a lot of local ordinances that dictate what and where knives can be carried. Ben waded through a bunch of the local knife laws here in the Triangle, and as it turns out, we both may be guilty of carrying either a knife that was too big, or in a prohibited place. The folks over at Handgunlaw.us have a nice .pdf for knife laws here. If you are in the Triangle area, you can familiarize yourself with Raleigh's knife laws here. The News! We dive into the Guns & Ammo/Dick Metcalf anti-gun controversy. My opinion is that they published the article looking to be a little controversial, and then after the anti-gun groups began to use this as ammo against guns. At this point, I believe the higher-ups at Guns & Ammo felt they had to do something to keep the antis from using it as ammo against guns. We then went on a short diatribe on RECOIL magazine, skeet shooting fudds, and why we don't compromise. There's a massive 2 person boycott taking place of Harris Teeter grocery stores here in NC. An old lady saw someone open carrying at Harris Teeter, and now wants them to post all of their stores against carry. Whats interesting about this is that back in 2010 Harris Teeter DID post their stores, and after a successful campaign from GRNC and NC concealed carriers, they decided to take the signs down. The best part of the story? There aren't any other grocery store chains in NC that are posted... We also talked for a couple of minutes about the Morrisville, NC Mayoral election where voters gave Mayor Against Illegal Guns Jackie Holcombe the boot. Plug Of The Week: Green Beret ProAm. I know this is really late notice, but if you can make it down to Range 37PSR on Monday 11/11/2013 and show your support for the Green Beret Foundation. I went to the event last year, and I'll just say this: Hooters girls, paratroopers, machine guns, and binary explosives. You shouldn't miss it. Here's the post I did on last years event (with pics...). Tip Of The Week: This is the time of year to get involved in competitive shooting. The competitive part of the shooting season is over, so things are a lot more laid back right now. If you are interested, get out and do it. Feedback! We love to hear from listeners!  Bobs Back! – Ep.54 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:01:26

You may remember Bob from Episode 30. Back then he was a new shooter, so since I was getting married this week Ben had him back on to talk about how he has progressed as a shooter over the past several months. They talk new guns, Apex trigger kits, gun shows, concealed carry, and more! The News! ATI (American Tactical Imports) is packing up and leaving the facist north east, and heading to South Carolina. San Fransisco, CA passes a confiscatory ban on 10+ round magazines. No grandfathering, no "pre-ban" mags, nothing. Citizens have 90 days to get their magazines out of the city, destroy them, or render them inoperable or they will be guilty of a crime. Just a reminder, the Morrisville, NC mayoral election is Tuesday 11/5/2013. If you are in Morrisille, or know someone who is, make sure votes get placed for anyone but Jackie Holcombe. She's a Mayors Against Illegal Guns shill, and needs to go. Plug Of The Week: K&L Gun Sales in Sanford, NC, is a new gun store that is run by the same guy as Carolina Firearms Training. Listener Feedback: From Bob (in reference to Episode 43 "Everyday Knives") What about knives with features like strap cutters and glass breakers? Why do they always come with a combo edge?  Everyday Knives – Ep.53 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:00:37

Ben stopped by the Morrisville, NC town council meeting last week for their highly publicized vote about whether or not the city was going to comply with state law regarding guns in parks. He live tweeted the event to the @triangletactica twitter account. Basically, the meeting had all the shenanigans we expect from politicians, and in the end the council voted unanimously to comply with state law, even Mayor Against Illegal Guns Jackie Holcombe voted in favor of the measure. On the parks thing, GRNC has told the city of Raleigh to get their act together regarding the "no guns" signage in city parks, and after initially pushing back against the idea, the city may remove some of the signs to get into compliance. GRNC was also taking care of business this week in Charlotte. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department was attempting, or talking about attempting to require the use of a form for pawnbrokers and wholesalers for gun dealers at gun shows in order to essentially register the gun sales at the show with them. GRNC jumped in, and it looks like CMPD has backed down from the measure. Everyday Knives: If you carry a gun, chances are you carry a knife. This week we cover some things that you should look for when shopping for a good knife: Serrated vs. non-serrated (“combo edge”) Blade Length (how big is too big?) Cost Locking Mechanisms liner lock lockback axis lock Blade Steel Rust resistance vs sharpness Stainless vs. Carbon Steel Ben and I are both shopping for some new knives, and I think both of us have settled on this Benchmade 555 mini-griptilian (Affiliate Link). This particular model features a thumbhole instead of a stud, the AXIS lock, and a modified sheepsfoot blade. It should be a great EDC knife. Listener Questions! Pat writes in on the Triangle Tactical Facebook Page: I recently listened to episode 38 of the podcast (yes, I'm behind), and it prompted me to do some research. The Every Day Carry page on Facebook is an interesting source of EDC ideas. One of the member recently suggested that EDC should include some kind of med kit, and said "If you carry a handgun you should have a tourniquet." What do you guys think? Would this be a good podcast topic? Neither Ben or I carry a tourniquet. This comes back to the skills vs. tools thing that we talk about so often here at Triangle Tactical, and if you have the skills to use a tourniquet, having one handy is a good thing, but for the average concealed carrier, knowing how and when to use one, and how to improvise one with a belt is probably a more realistic option.  Feedback!  3-Gun For Beginners? – Ep.52 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:05

We had some technical difficulties with this episode, so the audio quality isn't quite what you have come to expect from our podcast. My usual microphone bit the dust last week, and I'm still using a backup. We'll get it worked out, and I promise next week will be back to normal! 3-Gun Competition is a lot of fun, but neither Ben or I recommend it for someone brand new to the shooting sports. More guns = more complexity, and more room for error. Here are several things that can throw off a new shooter in a 3-gun match: Grounding your pistol when transitioning to a long gun Some games allow holstering a loaded pistol while on the clock Loading the shotgun while moving, if you don't have experience it's easy to swing the muzzle in an unsafe direction 3-Gun requires a lot more gear than just a standard pistol match We aren't saying that you shouldn't shoot 3-Gun if you are interested it it, but we do think that you should cut your teeth on a few single gun matches first, just to get the hang of things before moving on up to 3-Gun. The News! Springfield XDs Recall: Good, bad, and ugly. The good news is that Springfield has begun repairing, and shipping pistols back to their owners. The bad news is that it took a lot longer than expected, and in my opinion they lost some of their great reputation by not being completely upfront with the whole process. The ugly is that they announced that the fixed pistols have a "slightly increased trigger pull", but they don't say if it's an increase in length, weight, or both... Morrisville, NC Mayor Against Illegal Guns Jackie Holcombe is at it again. Jackie Holcombe is at it again, this time trying to find a loophole around the new state law that allows licensed concealed carry permit holders to carry in a playground, and in parks. Open Carry at the Alamo This weekend, a bunch of pro-gun, pro-carry patriots open carried their rifles at the Alamo in San Antonio, TX. I'm generally not a fan of open carrying rifles to make a statement, BUT since handgun open carry is illegal in Texas, I think this was a good alternative. Interestingly, San Antonio has an ordinance against carrying a loaded rifle, so the event organizers were handing out chamber flags to those in attendance. Plug Of The Week: "Walking Dead Zombie Prepper 3-Gun" - I heard about this just before we hit record, and had to talk about it. What's really cool is there will be an entire stage that is shot wearing night vision, using a suppressed rifle. If you are a 3-Gunner in Texas, you should check it out. Tip Of The Week: If your old kydex holster doesn't have the nice smooth draw that it used to, hit the inside of it with some carnuba wax, or some Armor All. It's easy, and works great! Feedback!
