Shot in the Butt – Ep.60

Triangle Tactical show

Summary: Day-Night-Day Match Thoughts: Ben and I spent the weekend shooting the Day-Night-Day match at The Range in Oxford, NC. The match was a day match on Saturday morning, a night match on Saturday night, and a day match again on Sunday. Of course the night match was the most interesting part. We both shot with handheld lights, and this posed some unique challenges for each of us. We had to deal with a bit of endurance to shoot all of the matches. There was a relatively small turnout because of the rain, but it was still 3 matches in 2 days. There were definitely some lighting challenges that we had to deal with, like glare, fog, ambient light, and other things. This kind of match definitely challenged us, and made me want to get more low-light practice with my concealed carry gear. It was cold, and wet. Dealing with this was something that separated the men from the boys. The News! Sean Sorrentino from NCGunBlog.com tried to attend the Misguided Moms "vigil" at a Durham church on the 1yr anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting. Upon entering Sean was recognized by one of the event organizers, and asked to leave. What's interesting about this is that all of the news about the anti-gun rally vigil focused on Sean being respectful and leaving when asked, and not really on the vigil itself. Well done Sean! ABC11 had some coverage of the event. Notice the tight camera angle used when shooting inside the church so you can't see how big/small the crowd was. The N&O noted that Sean was polite, and didn't cause a scene. The Arapahoe school shooting that took place this past week was stopped by a police officer who had... A GUN! Interesting how no matter how many laws we pass, these things still happen, yet in EVERY CASE when they are approached by someone with a gun, they off themselves and the situation ends. Bravo to the responding officer and school administrators who ran toward the gunfire. NC DGU: Monroe, NC - A man was attacked in the parking lot at work, being pistol whipped in the face by two thugs. He accessed his concealed handgun and shot both of the subjects in the butt, and one also caught a bullet in each arm. He then collected the thugs guns, and got out of the area and called the police. We're now being told that he won't be charged, and both of the thugs will hopefully be on their way back to prison soon. Plug of the Week: Hothands2 hand warmers. If you can't wear gloves because you have to help paste targets between shooters, having a couple of these bad boys in your pockets will help keep your hands nice and toasty when it becomes your turn to shoot. Tip of the Week: We always talk about how important dry-fire is, but there comes a time when it's important to practice with live fire as well. During the night portion of the match I was using a really interesting technique to hold the flashlight with the pistol. It worked well as it allowed me to get my support hand on the pistol so I could shoot quickly, until on one particular stage my light kept bumping my magazine release on the pistol in the dark. I kept tapping and racking the pistol to get it back into action, and it wasn't until after I finished the stage that I realized what was happening.
