Gear Mods – Ep.56

Triangle Tactical show

Summary: This week we talked about gear modifications, and how to go about modifying different gear. Many times we just throw money at a problem that we have with a certain item (like a holster, or sights, etc.) but does it make sense just to replace gear when we can maybe modify our current gear to suit our needs? I'm definitely a tinkerer, and I like to mess around with my gear. The trouble is, as with most things you have to decide when enough is enough. Some time back I modified my S&W M&P Pro sights to mimic the sight picture of my Sevigny Competition sights that I was running on my Glock 17. When doing this modification, I had to be really careful just remove enough material, and to be satisfied when enough was enough. Figuring out when enough is enough seems to be the trick when it comes to most things with guns. Whether it's taking a slice of kydex off of a holster, or opening the rear sight notch on a pair of sights. The News! "It's like a law against unicorns" -Ben The Federal "Undetectable Firearms Act" is rearing it's ugly head again. This is a law that was passed a long time ago in response to the plastic Glock handguns hitting the market, but it doesn't really ban any actual guns at this time. Politicians like Chucky Shumer are pushing to renew the law again (it expires on Dec. 9th 2013). Normally I wouldn't get my panties in a wad about this law, since it doesn't ban anything really, but now were living in the world of 3D printed guns, polymer lower receivers, and more, and I think it's time for this law to sunset. I'm not getting too fired up about it, but I'd definitely like to see it go. Plug Of The Week: This weekend (Nov. 23 2013) H2o Fowl Farms in Dunn, NC has teamed up with Allen from Tarheel Targets to host a 2-Gun Rimfire match benefiting Toys for Tots. It's a good cause, and an easy match to shoot. You should check it out. Also, The Day-Night-Day match is coming up in December. Mark your calendars now... Oh, and by the way, the Triangle Tactical Shooting Sports Calendar is back. I found some awesome software for it, and you should check it out. Tip Of The Week: Keep some tools in your range bag! Simple things like small screwdrivers and squib sticks are super handy on the range!
