Blogging Diabetes Podcasts with Tony Rose

Summary: I (Tony Rose) launched the Blogging Diabetes Podcast back in June 2011 after blogging about diabetes for 3+ years. The goal of the podcast is to share my personal experiences about what it's really like to live with type 1 diabetes every day. I'm not a doctor or a medical professional at all, just an average guy who has been living with type 1 diabetes since 1998. @blogdiabetes on twitter

BDP 046 | Interview with Tarra Robinson, Diabetic Alert Dog, TSlim and News | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:09:02

In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes Podcast I spend some time talking with Tarra Robinson about living for 30+ years with diabetes and more recently her bouts with hypoglycemic unawareness.  Tarra raised money to get a diabetic alert dog back in 2010 and it's been a life-saving decision that you can tell she is passionate about. Also in this episode are some of my opinions about the T:Slim insulin pump system, my update on the Paleo diet, completion of the Discovery of Insulin book and a few very interesting articles in the news. If you listen to this podcast through iTunes, I would appreciate a rating and/or review!  BDP 045 | Discouraging Days, Exercise and Weight Management, Stress and Diatribe | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:28

In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes Podcast I spend some time talking about the challenges I've run into with physical activity (yard work, landscaping, mowing grass and traditional exercise) and my blood sugars.  I'm in a situation where I want to be acutely focused on improving both my A1c and losing some weight so I feel better.  It seems to me that it's very difficult to do both of these things without waiting years for results them. When I focus on improving one area the other area seems to suffer. Also included in this podcast is a bit of a rant about stress and how it impacts blood sugars and overall health.  I hope you enjoy the show!  My wife and I are expecting our baby REAL soon. The due date is 6/21 with her last two pregnancies going 8 and 9 days early for our daughters.  Any guess when my #3 will be here?  BDP 044 | Interview with Lisa Hughes about the Dark Side of Diabetes, News and Events | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:00:53

In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes Podcast I spend time with Lisa talking through her 37 years with type 1 diabetes.  This episode discusses the "dark" side of diabetes and the complications that can happen to those living with diabetes. My approach to the complication side of diabetes is to do my best each day with the hope that if anything happens down the road I won't have any regrets. I don't want to look back and regret not taking better care of myself knowing that there is always an opportunity to do better and improve.  Life with diabetes needs to have a balance between living life and managing a disease that never lets up. Going to the extreme left or right isn't a life that I think I would want to live. I want to thank Lisa again for being on the show this week and talking about the things many people may not want to think about or face.  I hope you enjoy the show!  BDP 043 | Lilly Diabetes Blogger Summit, Disney and the DOC | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:04

In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes Podcast I go in depth on my visit to the Lilly headquarters in Indianapolis for the Diabetes Blogger Summit with a focus on social media. It was very nice to see, interact and discuss social media with my fellow friends from the diabetes online community and Lilly Diabetes team. There was a lot of feedback given to the Lilly Diabetes team and hopefully we will see change and even more interaction. With a lot of regulations and scrutiny on pharmaceutical companies with communications and social media, it's definitely an uphill battle, but one that can be overcome. The environment, workspace and history of Lilly was quite impressive and you could feel the pride in their building and archives for what they have created. As I discuss, there is clearly a right way and wrong way to approach social media. If the wrong path is taken, it can be detrimental to the company and they would have been better off not doing anything. There are so many good examples of companies using social media to interact, gauge customer satisfaction, troubleshoot, listen, test and respond to customers that can be used to learn from. I could write pages here, but it's all in the podcast. I hope you enjoy and please let me know if you have any questions that I didn't cover. Important (Transparency): Lilly Diabetes invited me to attend the event at their corporate center and paid for my airfare, travel, hotel and meals while I was at the event. I was not asked to write or talk about the event and the opinions expressed herein are my own.  BDP 042 | Defective Insulin, Sad News, Tour de Cure Results, Lilly Diabetes and News | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:17

In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes Podcast I review the steps I go through when I can't lower my blood sugars and some tips I've found. There has been some sad news over the last few weeks and I reveal my thoughts and revelations about where I am in my life. It has been a few weeks, but I finally go in depth about the Tour de Cure ride, my surprise, getting lost, the ride and what I thought about my first event.  There were quite a few items in the news that I caught up on and discuss in this episode along with a few upcoming events.  Finally, I will be attending a blogger conference at Lilly (Diabetes) on Monday in Indy with them fully covering all expenses (full disclosure). I can't wait to meet up with some fellow friends from the diabetes community and discuss real-living with diabetes. I will report back next week.  Have a great weekend!  BDP 041 | Lorraine Sisto Interview, This is Caleb and Mother’s Day Special | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:01:48

In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes Podcast I interview Lorraine Sisto who has a son (Caleb) with Type 1 diabetes. Caleb was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the young age of 3 and he and Lorraine have been "schooling" diabetes ever since.  I've known Lorraine for a few years and really enjoyed catching up with her and talking about Caleb who is a truly special boy. If you don't know Lorraine or Caleb, you can go to the link below and visit their site. With Mother's Day coming on Sunday I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to talk with a D-Mom about diabetes and her son that was pretty emotional. If you've listened to me for a bit you'll know I have a very special place in my heart for children with diabetes and the parents who care for them. Lorraine and Caleb are really crushing it with their diabetes management and it's proven with the numbers. After the interview I added a special surprise that even Lorraine didn't know about. I hope you enjoy the show! Happy Mother's Day to my amazing mom, my beautiful wife and mother of our children and all the moms out there listening and visiting today!
