Critical Issues Commentary Radio

Summary: Critical Issues Commentatry grew out of Bob DeWaay's passion to equip the saints for the work of ministry. In the late 1980's Bob met regularly with a group of local pastors, often presenting position papers on timely doctrinal issues. When he found that the messages were accepted by only a few of the attendees and rarely reached the pews, he chose to speak directly to the people by initiating a bimonthly newletter. Bob DeWaay is teacher and theologian at Gospel of Grace Fellowship in Edina, MN. Gospel of Grace Fellowship can be found on the web at http://www.gospelofgracefellowship.org/ where you can listen to sermons and other teachings. The Baptized into Christ are Clothed with Christ: Galatians 3:27, presented by Bob DeWaay and Eric Douma. What Paul emphasizes about water baptism is that we are in Christ and therefore partake in Christian unity. Pagan baptism practices implied being baptized into a false god and there was even clothing involved to show their status with the pagan deity. (duration 00:37:25)

In Christ all Believers are Sons: Galatians 3:26 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:34:40

In Christ all Believers are Sons: Galatians 3:26, presented by Bob DeWaay and Eric Douma. We emphasize the truth that being sons is true of all Christians. This is not a higher order status as pietism claims. "All" is emphasized to rebuke the false teachers who claim special status for law keepers after the manner that they prescribe. (duration 00:34:40)

No Longer Under the Guardian: Galatians 3:24-25 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:37:07

No Longer Under the Guardian: Galatians 3:24-25, presented by Bob DeWaay and Eric Douma. We begin by discussing an important translation issue in Galatians 3:24: Is the Law our guardian "unto" Christ or "until" Christ. We argue that "until" is the correct translation and cite Luther who makes the same claim... (duration 00:37:07)

In Custody Under the Law: Galatians 3:23 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:35:25

The Law and the Promises of God: Galatians 3:20-21a | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:35:16

The Law and the Promises of God: Galatians 3:20-21a, presented by Bob DeWaay and Eric Douma. We discuss implications of the difference between law and gospel.  Luther on Baptism, Part 1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:31:18

Luther on Baptism, Part 1, presented by Bob DeWaay and Jessica Kramasz. This radio show helps answer a concern expressed by some listeners. Because we cite Luther favorably concerning the gospel and justification by faith, some are concerned that this might be considered an endorsement of Luther's doctrine of baptism. (duration 00:31:18)

The Purpose of the Law: Galatians 3:19 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:37:31

The Purpose of the Law: Galatians 3:19, presented by Bob DeWaay and Eric Douma. Citing Luther as a quality source, we show that the Law both restrains evil in a civil sense and increases it in a theological sense. People complain when they see God showing mercy to people they think are worse than themselves. (duration 00:37:31)

The Distinction Between Law and Promise: Galatians 3:18 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:34:31

The Distinction Between Law and Promise: Galatians 3:18, presented by Bob DeWaay and Eric Douma. The promise of God's Messianic salvation is found throughout the Bible starting in Genesis 3:15. God's saving promises are never abolished or abrogated. The promises of God given particularly to Abraham are fulfilled in eschatological salvation. (duration 00:34:31)
