 (2012-10-21) The Meaning of Forgiveness | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:48

Sermon titled "The Meaning of Forgiveness" given on Sunday October 21, 2012. Size: 7.8 MB; duration: 22:48. A sinner (all of us) cannot be truly freed from sin if he fails to forgive. In today's Gospel we find a type of God: the Lord who forgives a debt; and a type of the sinner (us): the servant who is forgiven. The first servant owes 10,000 talents, which in today's American currency equivalent is about $1.5 Billion -- a debt virtually impossible to repay. Yet, the Lord forgives him the debt when he asks to be forgiven. That same servant is owed 100 pence; equivalent to less than two American dollars and he refuses to forgive. Comments by Cornelius a Lapide. Can we "afford" to sin and not be for given even one time? Can we afford NOT to forgive sins?

In this evil day in which we find ourselves, we must make use of the means the Lord has given us to pass through, and even use it to gain our ultimate end: possessing God in heaven. And this requires we use our HOPE! Let us memorize our Act of Hope and repeat it often, as well as reflecting upon the working of God in the past. He will work so again -- Hope will not disappoint.

Sermon titled "Fire, Flesh, and Bronze: The Three Hearts of a Christian" given on Wednesday October 17, 2012. Size: 3.9 MB; duration: 11:19. According to the writings of Saint Benedict Joseph Labre, each Christian should have three hearts: one of fire, one of flesh, and one of bronze. The heart of fire is to be aflame with love for God; the heart of flesh is to be filled with love of our neighbor; the heart of bronze is to be cold to self-love, helping us to be eager to practice mortifications.

Sermon titled "The Maternity of Mary" given on Sunday October 14, 2012. Size: 5.9 MB; duration: 17:02. To understand what a mother is we must understand what a woman is: the giver of life and love and that is what God created us for. In marriage woman gives all and sacrifices all to make her spouse happy. With human wives and mothers there are failing in this self sacrifice. In the Blessed Mother - the Immaculate - there are no flaws. She fulfills all the potentials of every wife and mother. Mary does for us spiritually what she gave Our Lord physically.

Sermon titled "Founding of the Mercedarians" given on Sunday September 30, 2012. Size: 9.3 MB; duration: 27:04. The founding of Our Lady of Mercy for the Ransom of Captives (slaves of the Muslims). Islam uses a systematic and strategic process of lying (Takia) to engage in Jihad (war vs. all infidels). Three main strategies: live in peace with infidels until Muslims out number "infidels"; defend Jihad; engage in Jihad. Examples of some saints: Sts. Peter Nolasco, Raymond Nonatus and the Vincentians and other Religious orders that ransomed slaves from the Muslims. How do we compare to these?

 (2012-09-23) Love by Sacrifice | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:14

Sermon titled "Love by Sacrifice" given on Sunday September 23, 2012. Size: 5.2 MB; duration: 15:14. Scripture commentary by Cornelius A'Lapide . "You can't know the word of God as well as The Word of God". The Pharisee in today's Gospel (17th Sunday after Pentecost) wanted to know the truth: how to offer pleasing sacrifice to God. Love is the object of all the laws of God. What motivates us in sacrifice. "The means of loving God is to love God without measure" (St. Bernard). True love of neighbor is to love as oneself; to labor (desire his good) for him with the same desire as we labor for ourselves. But we are selfish and when we sin we offend God, nature and neighbor. The Ten Commandments are ordinances of love. We can know if we love God and neighbor by how well we keep these ordinances.

(2012-09-23) Extending Our Battle Plan for Sanctity: Living by a Regula | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 16:08

Sermon titled "Extending Our Battle Plan for Sanctity: Living by a Regula" given on Sunday September 23, 2012. Size: 3.7 MB; duration: 16:08. In addition to having a battle plan for avoiding falling into sin, once we are free from sin it is very helpful to have a daily rule, or Regula, to order our day toward sanctity and avoid idleness. An example to consider is the daily rule created by Gabriel Garcia Moreno, the martyred former President of Ecuador (a matyrdom predicted by Our Lady of Good Success). A copy of his daily rule can be found here: http://www.audiosancto.org/files/Gabriel-Moreno-Rule-of-Life.pdf.
