Her family reunited and she married a neighborhood boy who turned out to be immediately abusive to her. She endured years of domestic violence and even wanted to kill herself at times. Her husband’s sudden and unexpected death left her struggling with the guilt she felt over her relief. She remarried and had more children and wanted to be able to help them with their Christian-school homework. So she took Bible classes and tried to understand God so she could give her life to him. Her husband helped her see that as Christians we live by faith and not only by knowledge or understanding. She gave her life to the Lord and discovered a hope for life and the future she never could have imagined.

He started volunteering with a Hospice group of inmates and couldn’t wait to be back in the world with his new faith. But as he became a new creature in Christ, he didn’t feel right pleading innocent to a charge he knew he was guilty of and decided to change his plea. This got him ten years in prison. Danny started praying for a wife, and reconnected with Sandy, a woman from his past. She started visiting, they fell in love and made plans to get married. Danny even discovered he may be eligible for a sentence reduction! But he started experiencing some shoulder pain, and what should have been a simple fix led to a horrible diagnosis: ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and 1-2 years left to live. His relationship began to falter, and Danny was in despair. He was eventually healed and married to Sandy. Soon after, he became a father.

When his dad died, his mom moved them to a housing project in Illinois where they scraped together barely enough to get by. Danny met God at a church revival and gave His life to the Lord at the age of 12. At the same time, he swore he would never be poor again. This led him to start businesses first a tavern, then a gym, and eventually more and more projects. He was successful in these ventures and enjoyed partying with his newfound fortune. Alcohol led to cocaine and cocaine led to crack. When Danny started dealing, he was eventually arrested. In prison, he asks God for forgiveness and starts on a path towards restoration.

After going to college, she met a man, Will, whom she was able to experience the lighter side of life with. After marrying, she discovered his gambling and alcohol addictions were far worse than she imagined. In a drunken rage, Will hit her, and Emma had to decide against her pastor, family, and friends, if she was going to go back and give him another chance and raise her young sons with him. With God’s help, she resolved to stick it out, following God’s will for her life. Will officially gave up drinking and Emma witnessed all her children come to know the Lord.

He watched neighbors spend as much time at church as they did at the bar, and he doubted church was a transformative place. At fourteen, he and his best friend tried to make beer at home, and though that didn’t work out, he started a decades-long addiction to alcohol and cigarettes. Marrying and starting a family with his high school sweetheart, Nolene, didn’t change things. They just brought the kids to the bar with them. It wasn’t until Bud’s sister, Sally, invited him to her Bible study that his heart shifted. He gave His life to Jesus and got clean. He pursued restitution for the many debts he owed and started doing ministry work.

He eventually attends Bible College and becomes a pastor until his health forces him to retire, still trusting in God’s love.
