Mountain Stage returns to the Virginia and Tennessee Border city of Bristol, the Birthplace of Country Music, to honor the rich history of that town's country music roots. West Coast country icons The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band perform some new tunes plus some old favorites. Grammy winning string band The Carolina Chocolate Drops showcase their two new members and eastern Tennessee's Jill Andrews performs material from her first solo album. Award winning bluegrass vocalist Dale Ann Bradley is joined by Steve Gulley and Kim Fox, and a direct descendant of the original Carter Family, Dale Jett & Hello Stranger, perform in the city where the Carters made some of their earliest recordings.

Bentley's latest is a bluegrass flavored affair called "Up on the Ridge," and he performs songs from it with one of the most recognized groups in bluegrass, the Travelin' McCourys. Also performing is Country Music Hall of Famer and harmonica legend Charlie McCoy, the Gypsy Jazz sounds of the John Jorgenson Quintet, Hot Rod guitar licks from Bill Kirchen and Canadian songwriter Fred Eaglesmith.
