 #276 with Mitch Clem | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 56:39

That's right! Your best friends Mitch Clem and Bryan Static are BACK with another barrage of big audio beats to sooth your summertime blues! Or maybe it'll be autumn by the time this goes up, who the hell knows. What IS known is that this episode is quite indierock-heavy, for which Mitch should be ashamed, and is also heavy on old songs by bands with brand new albums, for which Bryan should be ashamed as resident Young Guy to whom the responsibility falls to keep Old Fart Mitch up on the times. So it's shame all around today on the Razorcake Musical Punk Rock Family Podcast! Crank up the jams and let's DO THIS! -Mitch Clem To download the file to your computer, right click the link below and select "save target as..." A little noisemongering of both vintage and contemporary extraction to go with the “climate change” summer we're all enjoying. Think of it as an ad hoc soundtrack for all the sweltering discomfort.  #274 with Juan Espinosa | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 53:30

I've really tried to not take record collecting so seriously these days. Every now and then, however, I do go out of my way to get the limited/color vinyl copy of something but I also don't sweat it if I can't. I'm also coming to terms that even though I'd want to, I just can't afford or have the time to buy everything that I want or hear about. Really, though, who can and how jaded would they be? Ultimately, it's the tunes that are embedded onto the grooves of these little pieces of plastic that really get me excited and that's what record collecting should be about. Here's a sampling of what's been spinning on my turntable as of late. –Juan Espinosa To download the file to your computer, right click the link below and select "save target as..."  #271 with Todd Taylor | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:01

It's funny what songs come back around, endure. It's curious to see which bands continue to have relevance, even if it's just to you. It's not quite nostalgia as much as the sensory seeds of memory. Time travel to a certain drive, a specific time, a person. It's not always a good memories or important ones, but it is a reconnection to remind the self that there's personal history invested here, in this music. Sometimes it resonates to the present. I'm literally surrounding myself with more and more music every week—much of it from bands brand new to me. I have to make some more shelves for my records before it gets wildly out of hand. That makes me happy. History. It isn't getting any shorter. -Todd Taylor To download the file to your computer, right click the link below and select "save target as..."  #265 with Dave Williams | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 87:02

Alright, so often my reviews are peppered with comparisons to ‘90s hardcore bands (the “scene” in which I really “came of age” and all that), and the handsome Todd Taylor recently asked if I might be interested in compiling a podcast to give him (and perhaps some of our loyal readership) a gander in to the world of heavy, ‘90s hardcore (and some of the more recent bands this sound spawned). So if you'd like to put a magnifying glass on my musical, political, lyrical (and wardrobial) foundation, here it is. –Dave Williams To download the file to your computer, right click the link below and select "save target as..." What's the point? I don't know. Really. Part of me wishes that I didn't have this hair up my ass, that I could just let it be and say stuff like, “Yeah, man, I really love The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and The Eagles. I would so like to jam out to ‘Hotel California' right now.” But I just can't. I just don't have those genes or something. Popular music holds very little appeal to me. Some dude is currently emailing the website, threatening to sue us because a reviewer didn't like a popular American band, The Beach Boys. He's bullying us to fire the reviewer and to delete the review from our site. It's not a scathing review. I just don't like the dude's attitude. I don't like people who I don't know telling me I “must” do something. It's called an underground for a reason, no? These are opinions, not law enforcement seminars. I really don't care about being different. I don't care about being obscure. I just like the bands and songs I like for personal reasons. Be true to your weird wiring, right? Here are some songs that I really like that've come my way over the past couple of months. Hope you dig ‘em. If there's something that piques your attention, please seek it out. That keeps the robots from totally winning. This podcast is dedicated to Willa The Cat. She's between sixteen and eighteen years old and she almost died a couple weeks back. She's a nice cat. As I write this, it's been two weeks since Jason Molina died. I'm not sure if many Razorcake readers know who he was, but Jason fronted Magnolia Electric Co., and played under both the moniker Songs: Ohia and his own name. I talked with him a few times when I worked at SC Distribution, and he was always funny and down to earth. His passing hit me harder than I thought it might, especially because I had seen a picture of him a few weeks before and he appeared healthy and happy. But his battle with alcoholism got the best of him and he passed away at the age of thirty-nine—way too young. Unfortunately, rock and roll (and especially punk rock) has often mingled with self-destruction, addiction, and suicide. With Jason's passing in mind, I thought I'd put together a podcast of artists who have passed away in order to honor them and celebrate the music they left behind. Some of these artists passed with too much potential not yet realized and others left a great collection of tunes. In the case of bands, I included acts whose singers passed away. Seeing the outpouring of love and appreciation for Jason and his music reminded me once again of the power music has to help people and change their lives in big and small ways. More than just about any other thing, music (and especially punk rock) has shaped who I am. I don't play an instrument or sing in a band, but I don't know where I'd be without it. The reason I keep doing these podcasts, writing for Razorcake, and sharing music with others is because I believe in it. When people die or life hands you a raw deal, things may not make sense. But the music endures. Thanks for the great songs, Jason. Rest in peace. –Kurt welcometoflavorcountry@gmail.com To download the file to your computer, right click the link below and select "save target as..."
