Today, we are excited to be speaking with an Intelligence Community veteran who has had a 25-year career at the CIA, as well as played major R&D roles at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).  This gentleman also consults for a number of companies and organizations in the GEOINT sector and sits on many boards.  We are talking about Darryl Garrett and we are lucky to be spending some time with him today.

As the GEOINT community continues to grow, it is important to increase the involvement of the youth as they will become the future leaders of our industry, government and academic representative groups. As such, in 2009, the USGIF Young Professionals Group (YPG) was formed to unite junior GEOINT professionals within the Defense and Intelligence communities. This group offers events and programs that parallel the Foundation’s mission of advancing the geospatial intelligence tradecraft by utilizing the unique dynamics of our young professional membership based off of their needs and wants from this group. Today, we are speaking with one professionals who has played a pivotal role in the YPG, Ms. Julie Baer who is a Government Affairs Associate, GeoEye.

The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation and Geospatial Media & Communications, hosts of Geospatial World Forum 2012, just solidified a partnership where USGIF will be playing a key role at this international event. Today we are speaking with Sanjay Kumar, CEO of Chief Executive Officer at Geospatial Media & Communications and Keith Masback, USGIF President, who will be discussing this partnership and much more.

USGIF Member company GeoEye is always on the leading edge when it comes to providing imaging products, as well as services and solutions to customers around the world.   Today, we have been fortunate enough to spend some time with USGIF Board Member MR. Matt O’Connell, who is GeoEye’s CEO and Director.  Matt will be discussing key trends in the use of commercial imagery, and he is celebrating his 10 anniversary with GeoEye.

TerraEchos, a subsidiary of S&K Technologies, is a tribal-owned company headquartered in Missoula, Montana, develops solutions that collects data as it streams, allowing end users to make sense of it and act on it for monitoring and security.  As we all know in the GEOINT sector, the management of ‘big data’ has always been a challenge.  Today we are speaking with Alex Philip, President and CEO of TerraEchos.

Each year, USGIF brings on a new board member who represents the foundation’s Young Professionals Group (YPG) and serves as the YPG working group’s chair during his or her one-year term.  This Young Professionals board member has full voting power within the board and exemplifies all the qualities of a future leader and represents GEOINT Young Professionals as a whole.   Last year, Mr. Alex Martinez, Staff Engineer at Lockheed Martin, served in this role.  And, now he is passing the baton the newest YPG board member Eric Zitz, who is an Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton. Today, we are fortunate enough to be spending time with both Alex and Eric.

Penn State University recognizes achievement by a graduate student who is serving or has served in the U.S. Armed Forces or with the U.S. Intelligence community with its Lt. Michael P. Murphy Award in Geospatial Intelligence – named after Lt. Michael P. Murphy, a United States Navy SEAL who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, for his actions in 2005 during the War in Afghanistan. There are actually two winners this year, and today we are fortunate enough to be speaking with both of them.  We have Bill McDevitt, Senior Mission Planner for SAIC and Vanessa Damato, who is the lead Geospatial Scientist at Special Operations Center – Pacific Command (SOCPAC) Pattern Analysis Section, on the line.  Both just received this recognition at the GEOINT 2011 Symposium.

USGIF member companies Global Marketing Insights and The SI Organization will be unveiling the Intelligent Data Exploration and Analytics System (IDEAS) at GEOINT 2011 this year.  In addition, both they will be showcasing a unique promotion on the floor where the lucky winner gets an Amazon Kindle. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Civil Applications Committee facilitates Federal civil agency access to U.S. National Systems space-based electro-optical (EO) imagery for natural disaster response; global change investigations; ecosystem monitoring; mapping, charting, and geodesy; and related topics.  The committee’s Global Fiducials Program (GFP) has overseen the systematic collection of this high-resolution imagery to provide controlled geospatial data time series spanning a decade or more at carefully selected sites to study and monitor changes. Today we are speaking with Bruce F. Molnia, Ph.D., Executive Director, Civil Applications Committee for USGS.

This year at GEOINT 2011, the USGIF Technical Committee is hosting a number of events including the Interoperability Tech Talks, the tradecraft luncheon and much more.  Today we are speaking with both John Moeller and Robert Mott, who are the USGIF Technical Committee Co-Chairs.

At Hexagon 2011, it was announced that Intergraph, ERDAS, Leica Geosystems and Hexagon Metrology are being combined to better address the urgent need for real-time intelligence for any global situation. In addition, it was also announced that ERDAS an Intergraph are taking steps to streamline geospatial data revision and updating workflows in both ERDAS Imagine and Geomedia. Today we are speaking with Mladen Stojic, Senior Vice President, Product Management and Marketing of ERDAS, who will discuss these updates and other exciting things happening at ERDAS.

TerraGo Technologies and GeoEye, Inc. have formed a partnership to increase the access and application of digital imagery. This innovative partnership enables GeoEye to offer TerraGo’s GeoPDF production capabilities in the next version of its EyeQ online access platform. On August 19, the USGIF Young Professionals Group (YPG) is hosting its GEO HUNT educational exploration event on National Mall.  YPG volunteers will guide and lead teams of children from the Greater Washington Boys and Girls Club through the exploration event, provide answers to clues, give an overview of maps and geospatial intelligence.
