Don't forget to stop by EnglishClass101.com for more great English Language Learning Resources! -------Lesson Dialog------- ----Formal ---- June: What exactly is it like to work in sales? Cody: It's been a bit odd, honestly, since I'm a guy who sells beauty products. As a salesman, I have to present and even demonstrate the products to the customers. You imagine the problems when it comes to makeup and nail polish. June: So why does Big John have you selling beauty products? Cody: I don't know. I think it's because the novelty brings in customers. I have customers who come in just to see whether it's really true that a guy is selling beauty products. June: Wow. I guess it works as a sales strategy, in an odd, twisted kind of way. Cody: It's been fun. I have clients who call in to order things for their salons or boyfriends. June: Do you do any outbound sales? I mean, cold calling? Cody: I do. That's how so many people found out about a guy selling beauty products. June: What's it like? Cody: It was pretty hard, but I got used to it. I do about fifty cold calls a day now. June: Wow, that must be very tiring. Cody: Yes, it is, but I like the job. We get a few extra breaks because of the type of work, and I always try to keep things positive. Plus, I don't have to clock in as early as you do. June: Aren't the customers who come into the store enough to keep you busy? Cody: Not really. People don't really come to Big Buys to buy beauty products. They're usually looking for electronics or home appliances. --------------------------- Learn English with EnglishClass101!  Video S2 #10 - Oh, What a Tangled Web We Weave, When We Teach English Insect Vocabulary! | File Type: video/x-m4v | Duration: 2:22

Learn English with EnglishClass101.com! You learned a lot the last time you agreed to watch your niece…and this time, the joke's on her. Yes, last time, she thought she was so smart because she knew the English names for so many insects in your garden. But she is only five years old, and you are pretty sure that you have her this time! You have a bug day planned – of gardening again. She loves it, and it is an excellent chance for you to show off your new English insect vocabulary that you have been practicing. As you follow her out into the flower garden, she looks back at you with those big patronizingly sweet eyes and says in English, "Look, what is this bug called?" Oh, she's fast: she thinks you don't know this answer. You kneel down next to her, sneer on your face, and reply sweetly in English, "Honey, that is a spider, and it looks like it's protecting itself from you." Astonished, she whips her head around to face you and replies with a simple, "Oh." You point to another bug nearby and explain in English, "And look here, the cicadas are climbing up the tree." She stares at you in disbelief and replies in English, "I don't want to look at bugs any more, let's go work in the garden!" Looks like you beat her at her own game AND get some help with that unruly garden too! Nice job! Learning English with EnglishClass101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn English! Who are some of your major influences? ... June: You know, I'm actually not familiar with your uncle's bluegrass band. However, thank you anyway and have a nice day! (hang up the phone) Mitch: What was that about? June: I'm helping my sister find a band for her wedding. Mitch: Then today, sir, is your lucky day! Just giving you a heads up, I'll handle it from here. June: You're going to help me find a band? Mitch: No, no, no! You misunderstand. You've found your band! I'll play your sister's wedding. June: Wait a minute. You have a band? Mitch: I started a new-age punk band last week. June: And you want to play punk music at my sister's wedding? Mitch: Won't it be awesome! My big debut! In the spotlight! Next step, the big time. June: You know, my sister's tastes run a little more classical. Mitch: But you haven't heard us play. I'd hate to think you'd unfavorably prejudge us. --------------------------- Learn English with EnglishClass101! Learn English with EnglishClass101! Don't forget to stop by EnglishClass101.com for more great English Language Learning Resources! -------Lesson Dialog------- ----Formal ---- Cody: This is such a terrible job! June: Why do you say that? Cody: Big John just came in and put a stack of papers on my desk and told me to have everything done by the end of the day. June: And since it's three P.M., you'd better get working on it. Cody: I am working on it, but there's no way I'll get it done in time. June: That certainly isn't my ideal way to spend the afternoon. Cody: This is so bad! June: Well, it may not be good, but it certainly isn't all that bad. If you pull through, maybe Big John will start to trust you and give you a raise. Cody: Or he'll just figure out how to leverage me to do his work for him. June: I guess that's also a possibility. I'm new here, so I don't know how he works. What are the papers about? Cody: They're meeting minutes and some meeting transcripts from our staff meetings. June: That stack's nearly a foot tall. Like I said, I'm new here, but do we really have that many meetings? Cody: No! This is from the past seven years. June: Seven years? Why is he having you do that now? It isn't like he hasn't had enough time to do it before. Cody: Corporate asked for them. I think they're concerned that we are not selling as much as they'd like. --------------------------- Learn English with EnglishClass101!
