Uma das grandes festividades do país é o dia da santa padroeira do Brasil, Nossa Senhora Conceição de Aparecida. No feriado, dia 12 de outubro, são realizadas missas, procissões e romarias em nome da santa. Muitos peregrinos rumam em direção à cidade de Aparecida do Norte, onde se localiza seu santuário, para rezar, beijar a fita da santa e fazer pedidos e agradecer às bênçãos e proteção. Chegam a ir mais de 130 mil devotos até o santuário no dia da santa. Há muitas pessoas que fazem romarias partindo de sua cidade, levando dias para chegar até Aparecida do Norte, mostrando assim sua devoção por Nossa Senhora Aparecida. Em 12 de outubro de 1717, três pescadores jogaram suas redes no rio Paraíba e pescaram a imagem da santa Nossa Senhora da Conceição. Logo após jogaram a rede de novo, e conseguiram uma farta pescaria, sendo esse o primeiro milagre com registro da santa. Um dos pescadores guardou a imagem, feita de terracota com 40 centímetros de altura, e recebia constantemente fiéis da santa. Muitos são os milagres realizados pela santa no Brasil e a partir de então um grande número de pessoas passou a venerar a santa. Em 1955, uma nova basílica teve de ser construída para comportar a crescente quantidade de fiéis, o Santuário Nacional de Nossa Senhora de Aparecida, que só é menor do que a Basílica de São Pedro, no Vaticano. O santuário comporta 45 mil pessoas, e recebe anualmente entre sete e 12 milhões de visitantes. A devoção brasileira pela santa foi tamanha que em 1929, o Papa Pio XI proclama Nossa Senhora Aparecida a rainha e padroeira do Brasil. ----Formal English---- Day of Our Lady Aparecida Brazil is the country with the largest number of adherents to Catholicism in the world. One of the great festivals of the country is the day of Brazil's patroness saint, Our Lady of Conceição Aparecida. On this holiday, October 12, there are masses held and processions in the name of the saint. Many pilgrims head to the city of Aparecida do Norte, where her sanctuary to pray is located, kiss the tape of the saint, and make prayers and give thanks for the blessings and protection. Over one hundred thirty thousand devotees to the shrine in the holy days. There are many people who make pilgrimages from their home city, taking days to reach Aparecida do Norte, showing devotion to Our Lady Aparecida. On October 12, 1717, three fishermen threw their nets in the Paraiba River and fished a statue of Our Lady. Soon after, they threw the net again, and got an abundant fishery, which is the first registered miracle of the saint. One of the fishermen kept the image, made of terracotta, with a forty cm height, and it was constantly receiving the saint believers. Many are the miracles made by the saint in Brazil, and since then, a large number of people came to venerate the saint. In 1955, a new basilica had to be built to accommodate the growing number of believers - the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida, which is only smaller than St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican. The shrine could seat forty-five thousand people, and annually receives between seven and twelve million visitors.
