 Advanced Audio Blog S2 #11 - Amazing Amazon Facts | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3:38

Learn Portuguese with PortuguesePod101! Don't forget to stop by PortuguesePod101.com for more great Portuguese Language Learning Resources! ----Formal English---- Meeting of the Waters In the middle of the planet, the largest rainforest, the Amazon forest, hides another gift of nature: the Amazon River, which can reach fifty kilometers wide during the rainy season. One of the most beautiful and most visited places of the river is exactly the point where it begins. Amazonas arises when the Negro River ("Dark River") meets the Solimoes River (called "the meeting of the waters") close to the city of Manaus, capital of Amazonas state. For more than nine kilometers, the waters of the two rivers run side by side without mixing, a part with the black waters of the Negro River and the other with yellow and muddy water of the Solimoes, until finally they mingle and take a new identity: the legendary and phenomenal Amazon River. This unusual phenomenon is due to the difference of temperature and density between the rivers. The Negro River has a darker color because decomposition of leaves and organic matter happens in it, and it is quieter than the Solimoes River, which due to higher velocity, has muddy waters. To arrive at the meeting of the waters, currently there are many tour packages with guides trained to receive the public. The boats usually leave from the January Ecological Park, located in Negro River, a park with nine thousand hectares and concentrating various ecosystems of the region. During the trip, usually tourists eat on a floating restaurant with dishes based on fish of the regional culture. In this region, you can see many animals, including the boto cinza and boto cor de rosa (prehistoric animals that are living ancestors of today's dolphins). Besides animals, the typical Amazonian fl [...]

Silvana: Pela terminação do verbo. Cada verbo tem terminações específicas que indicam o passado, presente, ou o futuro. Professora: Exatamente. Então, qual é o tempo do verbo "coubéramos"? Silvana: Sei lá. Que conjugação esquisita. ----Formal English---- Professora: Good morning class. Today's lesson is about verb tense and verbal conjugation. Silvana, could you read what is written in the dictionary? Silvana: Yes, of course. Tense is the form of the verb that indicates if the action took place in the past, if it is happening in the present, or if it will be produced in the future. Professora: Could you explain this to us? Silvana: Sure. In other words, when we speak about verb tense, we are either talking about the past, the present, or the future. Professora: And specifically about the actions of the verbs in the past, present, or future. And how do we identify which tense the verb is in? Silvana: By the verb ending. Each and every verb has specific endings that indicate past, present, or future. Professora: Exactly. So, what is the verb tense of the verb "coubéramos"? Silvana: I don't know. What a strange conjugation. --------------------------- Learn Portuguese with PortuguesePod101! Don't forget to stop by PortuguesePod101.com for more great Portuguese Language Learning Resources!
