La regione Emilia-Romagna ospita le case madri di alcuni dei marchi italiani più famosi nel mondo, come Blumarine, Sergio Rossi, Max Mara, insieme a laboratori di produzione che si avvalgono di manodopera altamente qualificata. Nella stessa regione infatti, sono nate alcune delle scuole di per il design, lo sviluppo e la produzione di moda più famose del paese, come il CERCAL di San Mauro Pascoli che si occupa della formazione per tutto ciò che riguarda le calzature. Numerosissime anche le fiere, che ruotano intorno al polo fieristico di Bologna, tra cui alcune molto note a livello internazionale come Lineapelle e Simac. La regione si trova al terzo posto per importanza nelle esportazioni di questo settore, con un 9,2% sul totale nazionale nel 2003, secondo i dati di uno studio realizzato per la Regione Emilia-Romagna. Design e produzione s’incontrano in alcuni casi per creare una vera e propria “città della moda” come quella di Carpi in provincia di Modena, dove potete trovare aziende come Blufin (Anna Molinari, Blumarine e Blugirl), Liu Jo e Avirex; a Reggio Emilia ci sono Max Mara e Mariella Burani, a Bologna La Perla e Les Copains. Altro centro interessante è quello del Rubicone, in particolare di san Mauro Pascoli, che ospita i grandi nomi delle calzature in pelle italiane: Sergio Rossi, Vicini e Giuseppe Zanotti, Baldinini, Casadei. A pochi chilometri, precisamente a San Giovanni in Marignano, si trova il gruppo Aeffe, società proprietaria di Alberta Ferretti, Moschino e tanti altri.
