Temperature, light or the lack of it, along with ice-hockey are ever present in the native mind. The beginning of this year, saw a new addition to local culture and the sporting landscape, in the form of Gaelic Football. Its arrival is stirring interest. Round 3 of the Carpenter Cup Football Series in the Queensland GAA continued on Sunday at Willawong, Brisbane. In the Mens Senior Division 1, holder’s John Mitchels recovered from a early round loss with a win over Easts. Queensland GAA President Seamus Sullivan reports on the match and games in the Ladies Football and Divsion 2 competitions. 11:57 Meanwhile in New South Wales, Sunday’s action once again had to be cancelled due to bad weather and unplayable pitches at Monarch Fields, Sydney.

One of the first ever international French Gaelic football youth matches takes place this weeekend in Brittany at an Irish festival in Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier. Five time winner of the Brittany Gaelic Football League, and local club Liffré, will be on hand Saturday to showcase their work in developing Gaelic football in the region, by taking part in both youth and senior matches against Jersey GAA at the festival. In the Podcast we hear from Liffré GAA PRO Andre Paquin about the event and youth development at schools in the area, and also about the all-French senior squad’s tour of Ireland next week. 28:22

On Monday evening at the Hard Rock Cafe in Downtown Indianapolis, Indy GAA were holding court as it was time for this year’s 2013 Hurling League Draft. Over a period of two and a half hours, Indy GAA went through 17 rounds of picks which ultimately translated into 137 players on 8 teams. Prior to Monday, GaelicSportsCast spoke over the weekend to Indy GAA PRO Kyle Keesling about the draft and the forthcoming summer season. 19:32

Gaelic Park, New York. (Photo by Peter Marney). It was an unusal Opening Day for the New York GAA on Sunday as three senior football championships games took center stage at Gaelic Park in the Bronx. Normally at this early stage of the season things get off to slow start with various cup action but from the get-go yesterday the NY senior football grade was in the spotlight. Last year’s 2012 NY Senior Football champions Leitrim were in action and they didn’t have things all their own way. To fill us in on happenings is NY GAA PRO Ira Goldman. 8:17

After a false start last week due to unplayable pitches, it was all action yesterday at Monarch Fields for the start of the 2013 New South Wales GAA in Sydney, Australia. The rained out nature of Round 1 saw all teams recieve drawn game point-status but teams had to earn Round 2 points the hard way on Sunday. A great performance by London hurlers yesterday in Newbridge, County Kildare saw them overcome favourites Meath to take this year’s Division 2B National Hurling League title. One of the biggest ever Opening Day’s of the New York GAA season get’s underway this weekend as all eight senior football teams see 2013 NY Championship action at Gaelic Park this Sunday April 14th. Following new GAA rules, and similar to the London scenario, NY players who want to be eligible for New York’s Connacht Football Championship Quarter Final opener in May, must first play in their local championship. To look ahead to this year’s season in New York, GaelicSportsCast spoke over the weekend with new NY GAA PRO Ira Goldman. 25:52 NOTE: Opening Day in Sydney on Sunday got off to a bit of a wet start as all NSW GAA games had to be cancelled due to pitch water logging.

There’s a spring in the step of most Irish women and men around the city of Sydney this week as New South Wales (NSW) GAA gets ready to open their 2013 season at Monarch Fields on Sunday, April 7th. The season throws-in with the start of the NSW GAA League and will see Cormac McAnallens looking to retain their titles in both men’s and ladies football, in hurling Michael Cusacks will be looking to hold on to their crown, while in Camogie the team to beat will be Central Coast .
