The Children’s Heart Surgery unit at Southampton is under threat despite being ranked the second best in the country as health chiefs look to cut the UK’s 11 centres down to six or seven. Southampton was featured in just one of four options which will be put out for a four-month public consultation starting on February 28, before the Joint Committee of Primary Care Trusts makes its final decision by the end of the year. If Southampton closed, it would mean families would be forced to get life-saving treatment in London or Bristol, at units which experts say fell below the “exemplary” standards that Southampton has been scored so highly on. This is Nancy she is 2 and very soon faces a 3rd open heart surgery to prolong her life. Nancy was born with Hypo-plastic Left heart – the left side of her heart did not grow and she essentially lives with half a heart. It is thanks to the wonderful surgeons and team at Southampton General hospital that she is the wonderful little girl she is today. We would travel the world if it meant the best treatment but this assessment has shown we already get the best treatment and are having to fight to keep it. Mike Crowe came in to co-host The Afternoon Show and impart some of his worldly knowledge to us at Vectis Radio. He’s an interesting guy and despite this being a three hour show, we still didn’t do him justice! A repeat visit is required methinks!
This show was aired on Vectis Radio on April 11th 2011. The news has been snipped out but the rest of the lunacy is in there ;)

Just a little experiment, if you missed the live show on Vectis Radio, you can either listen here online - or download via iTunes and listen at your leisure. Nana Steed joins me on Thursdays and things get a little out of hand at times as we seem to provoke each other :) This is todays show (7/4/11) minus the news at the top of each hour! Leave a comment here if you want more podcasts of the daytime show and we will sort that out! Enjoy!
Mike Crowe, Membership Secretary of “The Friends of Shanklin Theatre” came in to tell us the incredible story of how a band of Islanders have rescued Shanklin Theatre and once again turned it into what must surely be one of The Isle of Wight’s premier entertainment venues. If, like many of this Island’s residents including myself, you thought that we had lost this theatre, have a listen, you’ll be amazed at what has become of the place and how it has been achieved. It’s a story of inspiration as well as the equivalent of a top London theatre right in our back yard! Website: http://www.shanklintheatre.com Box Office: 01983 868000
