Gospel Light Minute X with Daniel Whyte III

He played 15 seasons as a defensive end in the National Football League for the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers, becoming one of the most decorated players in NFL history. He helped his team, the Green Bay Packers, win Super Bowl 31 in 1997. The 2-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, 13-time Pro Bowl and 12-time All-Pro selection holds 2nd place all-time amongst career sack leaders with 198. He was selected to the NFL's 75th Anniversary All-Time Team, the NFL's 1980s All-Decade Team and the NFL's 1990s All-Decade Team. During his professional career, he became famous not only for his outstanding play, but also for his Christian ministry as an ordained Evangelical minister. This led to his nickname, "The Minister of Defense". He was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006, two years after his death in 2004. He said of his faith, "I always believed, since I was a kid, that God was going to allow me to play professional football to use it as a platform to proclaim and to live out the name of Jesus, and that is the most exciting part about my life...If we continue to back down from the truth, we’ll never mean anything to the kingdom. Dr. King once said before he died, 'If you don’t have a cause to die for, you have nothing to live for.' Jesus is our cause, so we should be willing to sacrifice our lives for Him and others." I have a lot to be thankful for. God has truly blessed me. Again, I can say with my Dad, “God has smiled on me.” The Lord has shown me great favor and mercy down through the years, and not only me, but my entire family, and everyone living today. If you are alive, you have a lot for which to be thankful. I have the blessings of health and strength. I have the blessing of many beautiful and healthy children. I have the blessing of a beautiful wife and a son and daughter born on my birthday. I enjoy the blessings of good food to eat, clothes to wear and a place to stay. Since I first preached this devotional message, in a small church, in a little city called Apalachicola, Florida, nearly twenty years ago, I have been serving the Lord full-time, and God has taken care of me, my wife and our seven children by faith in Him. She is best known as Tess's angel/employee, Monica, on the long-running CBS TV series "Touched by An Angel". This show ran from 1994 to 2003. She was awarded the TV Guide award for favorite actress and has been nominated twice for an Emmy and a Golden Globe. She was first noticed for her portrayal of Jackie Kennedy in the mini-series "A Woman Named Jackie" and recently hosted PAX TV’s signature series, "It’s a Miracle". She is executive producer of a new animated video series "Little Angels", which is a fun, entertaining way to engage children and to help parents teach their children Christian values. She is also a "Smile Ambassador" for the non-profit organization, Operation Smile, which provides surgeries for children around the world who were born with severe cleft lips and palates. Despite her accomplishments, she says her belief in God and His love for all mankind has made her the person she is today and has brought her through difficult times, including the pain of losing her mother at the age of 10. She often encourages people by saying, "When a moment of decision is at hand, take the time to be quiet and to listen, because God's voice will speak and you will know the right thing to do. So trust God and trust that you will hear it when you make time to hear it. When you hear His voice, follow it and make the right decisions for yourself and your life." Her name is Roma Downey.
