From 2012: 'Heaven' is the seventh full-length album from The Walkmen. When the band stopped by WFUV, they talked with The Alternate Side's Eric Holland about what it was like to work with the famed producer, Phil Ek, and they also performed some of the material live in Studio A.
From 2012: Songwriter and powerful singer, Brandi Carlile, has a spirited charisma, a no-nonsense appeal, and an album called 'Bear Creek' which is named after the studio where it was recorded. A NYC stop brought Brandi and her bandmates, Phil and Tim Hanseroth, back to our studio, and they performed beautiful, stripped-down versions of a couple of the songs during a visit with Rita Houston.
From 2011: The Raveonettes described their album 'Raven In The Grave 'as 'the perfect winter soundtrack just in time for spring.' It definitely brought out the more reflective and moody sides of the Danish duo, and Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo told FUV's Russ Borris more about the album's songs and sounds.
From 2011: They're summer camp friends - not a family band - and returned with an extra dose of country punk guitar rock on the album, 'Screws Get Loose.' It's the Tennessee band Those Darlins, performing in Studio A and talking music with FUV's Kara Manning.
From 2012: Aimee Mann burst onto the scene in the new wave band 'Til Tuesday, and continues to follow that act with a solo career as a wry singer-songwriter with an eye for witty detail. The release of her eighth studio album, 'Charmer,' brought her to Electric Lady Studios for an FUV Live performance hosted by Claudia Marshall, and Aimee explained the album title with the help of a lyric by her husband, Michael Penn.
From 2010: Sharon Van Etten’s album, ‘Epic,’ features harmonies with members of Sufjan Stevens’ band and ‘She Keeps Bees,’ and earned heaps of praise from TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone among others. Sharon came into FUV’s Studio A to play some acoustic songs, and to talk with host Alisa Ali.
From 2011: From Men at Work to 'Scrubs' to his 11th solo album, 'Gathering Mercury,' catch up with songwriter Colin Hay in his visit with host Claudia Marshall at FUV.
From 2011: It's a full Studio A as FUV's Alisa Ali is joined by Portland, Oregon indie-folk orchestra Typhoon, their many instruments, and the swelling sounds of songs from the collective's EP, 'A New Kind of House.'
From 2011: As Suzanne Vega continues to revisit her song catalog in the 'Close Up' series of albums, she also explored new territory in the play, 'Carson McCullers Talks About Love.' She was not only the main writer but the main actor in the project, and Suzanne shared a few stories about the endeavor during a conversation with FUV's John Platt.
From 2011: You know Craig Finn as the frontman of The Hold Steady, but he stepped out solo on his debut album 'Clear Heart Full Eyes.' Learn about the songs and what this means for The Hold Steady, as Craig talks with FUV's Dennis Elsas.
From 2011: After the covers mixtape 'Crushes,' Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel returned to their fine drums and keys form on the Mates of State album 'Mountaintops,' and offered up a few of the tunes live in a Studio A session with FUV's Russ Borris.
From 2011: Jazz trumpeter and bandleader Steven Bernstein and his Millennial Territory Orchestra take the songs of Sly Stone into new territory on the album 'MTO Plays Sly,' and in this Studio A session with host Rita Houston.
From 2011: When Nick Lowe released the album 'The Old Magic' and headed out on tour with Wilco, he also performed a mix of new and old songs (and magic) in an FUV Live show at The Living Room, hosted by Corny O'Connell.
From 2012: Underdog soul singer Bettye LaVette has been crafting her own kind of songbook for 50 years now, and to mark the milestone, she brought all her talent and experience to bear on two projects: her memoir, 'A Woman Like Me,' and an album, called 'Thankful N' Thoughtful.' On the album, Bettye explores the work of Tom Waits, Sly Stone, Patty Griffin, The Black Keys and more. She performed a few of the songs live, and told some funny and fascinating stories during a Studio A session with FUV's Rita Houston.
