Hindsight is Horrifying

The beloved movie with Austin Powers as an ogre and Axel Foley as a donkey: Shrek.On episode 2 of Hindsight is Horrifying, Jason and I (@Darth_ Jader_) explore the movie that actually inspired this horrendous podcast. Upon reviewing this movie, Jason and I also have to move past the fact that both Mike Myers (Love Guru) and Eddie Murphy (Spice Girl knock-ups/transvestite prostitutes) have essentially disappeared from Hollywood even after all their (mostly) successful movies.That being said, Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) is the nightmarish tool who tortures personified cookies. But does that surprise anyone? I mean, Duloc is just Disney World run by a tiny Hitler who steals the Facebook logo and uses it for his own personal branding.Surprisingly, this “kids’ movie” touches on sensitive subjects like segregation and body image. Fairy tale creatures are facing tough times all around. You guys, Peter Pan actually SELLS Tinker Bell and *spoiler alert* Mama Bear gets murdered and turned into a RUG!On a lighter note, Cameron Diaz is both ugly and pretty…based on your fetish. And Jason informs me that Shrek was originally supposed to be livin’ in a van down by the RIVER! Ultimately, the question to answer at the end of this particular DreamWorks movie is this: Is it okay to kiss a dead person? Welcome to the first episode of Hindsight is Horrifying, where Jason and I (a.k.a Darth Jader) discover our podcast legs with Rocko’s Modern Life. What is truly impressive is the fact that Jason and I had never met each other before this first recording, so we hope you enjoy the natural, raw chemistry that can only stem from two truly demented people being locked in a recording studio together.Regarding the episode itself, you might be wondering why two “adults” chose to start their podcast with a children’s cartoon like Rocko. You’ll soon discover that the immediate and obvious upside to having such an ancient host as Jason on the show is that he brings a wizened perspective to what used to be a Saturday morning staple for us young folks back in the 90's. To wit, Rocko’s Modern Life turns out to be even more twisted and mentally scarring from my adult perspective than I would have anticipated. The animation and plot points alike seem to stem from an acid trip. But fear not, for Jason and I arm ourselves with delicious beers from Variant Brewing to brave the wonky 90's programming and accompanying subversive humor.The beer may or may not be the reason why Jason and I venture off topic from dissecting Rocko (the show, not the wallaby). We point out the delightfully zany humor in the show which ranges from dad jokes to insane comments that shouldn’t be heard outside of asylum walls. That being said, join us and see how the programming of yesteryear holds up on a scale of ALF to Seinfeld. Confused? Just wait!
