Allergen Reduction Study Reveals How To Effectively Control German Roaches | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:45

Allergen Reduction Study Reveals How To Effectively Control German Roaches. An article published online on September 7 Cockroach Allergen Reduction by Cockroach Control Alone in Low-Income, Urban Homes-A Randomized Control Trial http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2804464/ Allergen Reduction Study Reveals How To Effectively Control German Roaches An article published in US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health from Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. The goal of the study was to prove that the reduction of allergens could be accomplished by the control of cockroaches alone. A group of entomologists from North Carolina State University using only monitors and roachgel and dust bait where able to get 99% to 100% control in just 6 month compared to the 83% control of 4 different local pest control companies that joined the study. Not only that but the 83% control of roaches only lowered the allergens by 35.7% which begs the question is being good good enough.  Building a website for your pest control business | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:10

Building a website for your pest control business Im going to do a series of podcasts just devoted to Websites, SEO and online business and building a website. For additional updated info see  My goal for these podcasts is to demystify give you good information and the pitfalls to avoid. We will be discussing website development platforms. • SEO Search engine optimization. • Google myths panda, pengion the internet zoo. • Online business strategies myths, legends I have been building websites since about 1987 I have used Microsoft Front Page Adobe dreamweever. The free web design tools from • 1and1.com • Godady.com I even used publisher from Microsoft to build websites. When most people think of building a website many things come to mind. • Do I really need a web site? • Building a web site is complicated and expensive? • Who will build it me or do I hire a developer? Do I need a website? Yes a website is the dynamic equivalent of having a business card. The problem is that most people that have a web site have it as a glorified business card or brochure. Its just there. Hoping somebody is going to check it out. When I think of a website I think of it in the same way a land developer looks a t building location location, location and how do I get people in the door to buy. Your web site should be at minimum a lead generation tool it should make the phone ring and at best a sales pipeline producing and automating new customer acquisitions. In the past we have handed out business cards, flyers placed adds in local papers phonebooks bus benches, billboards, radio and television and you sat and waited for the phone to ring hoping and praying someone would see your add. In the new media world your customer are going actively online and looking for what they want hoping to find it. There are three types of businesses • Those that have a web site, Early adapters • Those that don’t, most people • Those that never will, these are business that use a cell phone just because nobody makes rotary phones anymore. In this episode I’m going devote it to web design principles things you should know before you build and things you should know about to hire the right person to build, promote and manage your website. Building a web site is no longer a novelty, it is part of doing business in a new media world. Lest talk about design When most people think about design they think about Colors, layout, images and text, copy writing They think about a five page site where there is a home page, about page a services page a contact page. The price for someone somewhere to build it is between $500 to $3000. Maybe you’ve though about going one of those websites like wix.com or godadgy.com where you can build a website from scratch with no web design experience in a couple of hours for like $26.00. What does it cost to get a site up and running about $26 Domain Name Registration $10 Images 5 X $2 Each $10 Get web hosting a subscription for $6 bucks per month In 2 to 4 hours you have a live website It’like you got your license, an inc or llc, a truck, business cards, pesticides, and a spray can. I’m in business. All you have to do now is make money. What do you really need to know about internet marketing SEO Search engine optimization, local SEO. Onsite SEO is optimizing your website for the search engines.

Fate of pesticides in the environment how to make pesticide work for you | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:47

Fate of pesticides in the environment how to make pesticide work for you. Understanding the fate of pesticides in the environment how they transport, transfer and transform and using those characteristics to your advantage to get better results. Often the major concern of pesticides in the environment is persistence how long does it last in the environment and mobility, how does it move in the soil, water and air. But we need to consider many factors that lead to those environmental concerns as well as effectiveness and the profitability of changing some of the things we do. Understanding the Transport, Transfer and Transformation processes of how a pesticide moves away, moves into and has a change in its structure or completely degrades. Pesticides in the soil Soil Permeability is the rate of which water moves thru the soil. Soil depth will greatly influence the amount and time of contact between the pesticide and the soil to complete the biological transformation process. Soil pH will influence the solubility of pesticides the rate of the biological process. Soil organic matter will influence the sorption potential of the soil to transform the pesticide through micro organisms. Soil slope will influence the amount of water that will be infiltrated in the soil as steeper slopes will create a greater transport or runoff. Leaching of the pesticide through the soil is a huge concern because of the probability of it reaching the water table and contaminating the ground water. Soil characteristics. Soil texture. Soils that are rich in organic matter or clay soils are more absorptive than course or sandy soils this is because they have more places to which the pesticide particle can bind to. Soil Moisture Wet soils can absorb less pesticides particles than dry soils because the water molecules will compete with the pesticide molecules for sites to bind to. Once the pesticide is in the soil it will take one three courses it will move through the soil with the water, attach itself to soil particles, or be metabolized by organisms such as fungi, bacteria or any other micro organism in the soil that can use the pesticide as a carbon or energy food source. In sandy soils where there is a lack of organic matter persistence or leaching is a great concern. Pesticide in the Water Pesticides that enter bodies of water through leeching or runoff will float on the surface, diffuse into the water or deposit into sediments at the bottom of water body. Hydrolysis happens when the then bonds in the pesticide molecules break down because of the contact with water. Water pH is a strong determining factor. Pesticides in the air Pesticides can travel through the air when applied, attached to small particles such as leaves or they can volatize off surfaces. Volatilization factors High Temperatures with low humidity makes it more favorable to volatilization High air movement, Vapor Pressure, Solubility of the pesticide all contribute to volatilization. Photodegradation is the breakdown of pesticides by sunlight, it can occur on the foliage, surfaces or air. Determining The half life of pesticide Fate of pesticides in the body Fate of pesticides in the soil Fate of pesticides in water How it affects pollinators How it affects beneficial How it affects animals and wildlife How it affects plants All this and many more questions can be answered at National Pesticide Information Center http://npic.orst.edu/index.html

How to get more local customers using facebook | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 54:42

How to get more local customers using facebook Why facebook? As of the first quarter of 2015, Facebook had 1.44 billion monthly active users. If you want to get more local customers facebook is a low cost way to acquire new customers. State of the Pest Management Industry PCT 2015 Magazine Top 100 List The U.S. structural pest control industry generated an estimated $7.466 billion in total service revenue in 2014, a 3.5 percent increase from the $7.213 billion measured in 2013. An estimated 8.75 million residential accounts were serviced either under an annual contract or as a “one-time cleanout” for household pests this past year. That represents slightly more than 25 percent of the “target market” for professional pest control services in the U.S. (The “target market” is defined as households with annual income of $75,000 or more.) The percentage of all U.S. households (2013 = 122,952,000) receiving professional pest control was slightly more than 10 percent,” said Gary Curl, president of Specialty Products Consultants, the research firm that publishes the report.  Reducing Callbacks and Increasing Customer Satisfaction With Dust Void Treatments | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:28

Reducing Callbacks and Increasing Customer Satisfaction With Dust Void Treatments Dust void treatments can reduce your call back by helping to eliminate existing pest infestations and preventing new one from forming greatly reducing your annual call back treatments. The average call back cost about $85 when you factor travel time and re-service. That is a huge loss of profit. You might be thinking you don’t have the time to perform a void treatment. My suggestion is you don’t have the time not too. You need to perform a ROTI Analysis, this is a Return On Time Invested Analysis. If you perform an initial service which on average should only take 45 to 60 minutes. Then every minute you spend on that initial service should be focused on performing services that not only manage the pest to an acceptable threshold level but also prevents pests from re-infesting the property. Performing a wall and void treatment to the most vulnerable areas to the home are the kitchens and bathrooms  on average only takes 15 minutes to perform in the kitchen and about 3 to 5 minutes per bathroom. Treating all the electrical outlets, behind all the pipes, and under the base cabinet voids will only cost at the average billable rate of $110 per hour $20 to $35 per house if you are charging an average of $125 for an initial service you can not afford not to do it. $35 on the high end to perform a service that can potentially save you $85 in just one call back is a pretty good investment and a good ROTI. Not only that but better customer satisfaction with reduced callbacks means happier customers. Dust void treatments are a vital part of IPM and Bed bug control methods because they target the pests where they nest also reducing pesticide exposure in the property. Pros of void treatments with dusts Longer residuals Reduced exposure Ease of application Ease of attachment to insects legs and body Low to no odor Cons Cannot be applied to wet areas Does not perform well Insulated walls Dusts are not fast acting but rather used to reduce and prevent infestations over the the long run. Not let’s talk about products available you have many options to choose from Pyrethroid Dusts Boric Acid Dusts Dematiouse Earth DE Dusts Silica Dusts In the past 10 years I have used all of them and without a doubt I have my favorite, all have potential pros and cons but one really stands out as favorite because of the efecacy and reduced risk. Let’s talk about them. First pyrethroid dusts are synthetic forms of pirethrins. Pyrethroid dusts can be used for wall void treatments but can be a repellant as most pyrethroids are by nature and may cause the pests to migrate to other parts of the home. Second pyrethroid resistance is well documented, over use over time can lead to pest resistance. Pyrethroid dust can be very irritating to the applicator. Some pyrethroid dusts have label restrictions. Boric acid is an inorganic stomach poision and are effective for controlling roaches because of there grooming habits, Boric acid is considered less toxic than synthetic chemicals. Diatomaceous Earth is made of the fossilized bodies of microscopic organisms and is mined from the earth unlike pyrethroids and boric acid it is an abrasive and a desiccant that damages the exoskeleton of the insect, it is slow acting and takes several days to kill the insect causing death by dismemberment. DE has a very low Mamilian toxicity thus reducing pesticide exp...
