This episode is with the newly crowned 2018 WPRA World Champion Barrel Racer, Hailey Kinsel. Hailey and her palomino superstar, Sister, just finished up what has got to be the best 2 seasons a barrel racer has ever had winning well over $1million over the last 20months or so. What makes this cowgirl amazing though, isn’t just the REALLY fast times run in the arena, but the great human being she is outside of it.

We’re back on this Boxing Day edition of MWH to bring you a conversation with Charlotte Edwards. Charlotte, among other things, is a barrel horse trainer. Another hat she wears is that of a Barrel Futurities of America Board Member. We talk about training colts, discuss some fun stories from horses from the past, and talk a little bit about Charlotte’s upbringing in the horse world. We also spend a good bit of time discussing the BFA’s move from Oklahoma City to the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, OK.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and on this episode we talk about all things Christmas. We also talk about the huge payouts in team roping and how things can be compared to barrel racing. On this episode we recap the 2018 NFR, talk about Christmas shopping procrastination, answer a great question about stallion selection. This is our 3rd straight episode with no guest, but we have some great conversations lined up with cowboys and cowgirls that are just now getting home (or still in transit) from Las Vegas and the NFR. Thanks for asking and interacting! We talk about all sorts of things. From aspects of our relationship and the podcast to questions about vet treatments and therapies, we really hit a wide variety of topics. We also recorded this one while watching the NFR, so naturally we give our 2-cents and commentary on all that.  

On this episode of the show, which we recorded from our living room while watching the NFR, we discuss the first 4 rounds of the NFR and all the excitement around that. We also discuss the 2018 Barrel Futurities of America World Championship that took place for the Oklahoma City last week. The last one for the the foreseeable future as the event moves to the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, OK next year. It  was a fun conversation interrupted with rodeo action.

Our third podcast from he BFA World Championships in Oklahoma City is with Danyelle Campbell. Danyelle is a barrel horse trainer who’s excels at the aged events and has also been to the “Big Show” of pro rodeo in Las Vegas. There aren’t many who’ve excelled in both, but she’s one of the few.

Howdy! Our second episode recorded from the 2018 BFA World Championships is with Shawn and Casey Varpness. This barrel racing couple, from Rochester, Minnesota, both train and ride horses as well as produce some of the largest barrel racing events in the Midwest. Their barrel racing production company, SC Productions LLC, produces barrel races and futurities in Minnesota.

At release of this episode we’re 3 days from the start of the 2018 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo! On this episode we go through the list of the 15 women competing this year at the Thomas and Mack. We detail a little about each rider and give our predictions on who will ultimately take home the gold buckle. What do you think? Our guest this week is Jessica Routier. Jessica will be competing at her first National Finals Rodeo beginning in one week (from the time of this release). Jessica and her main mount, a 7yo palomino mare named Fiery Miss West or “Missy”, have cashed in about $100k this regular season which will see her ending in the Thomas and Mack. Jessica, her husband Riley, and their 5 (YES, 5!) children live in Buffalo, South Dakota and own, live on, and run a a pretty good sized cattle ranch.

I say, “Initial” because this was the first time we sat down and looked at all of the contestants in each event and tried to piece together a team. It was fun and you get a little insight into how we select our teams. SPOILER ALERT: It’s not real scientific, but we both have GREAT teams!!
