Disney Magic Hour

Last week we took part in the madness that is Star Wars Celebration. From extensive lines, massive start power and a sales floor that could empty anyone's wallet, we saw it all. Arriving at 4am everyday to start our day, there are a countless number of details to discuss. For this undertaking we call in two friends who also spent the weekend surrounded by the Force, Stan Solo and Jason Lisotta! Lots to discuss, let's go, it's showtime!!

As Star Wars Celebration lands in Orlando this week we feel it no better a time to discuss the Saga. More to the point, the feature films. With the universe expanding into new trilogies and new side stories, where do the films fall in rank against one another? Special guests Stan Solo and Sara Sibilly join the DMH Crew as we do the science. Lot's to do, let's go, it's showtime!!

One of the most unappreciated recent Disney films is 2009's, The Princess and the Frog.  This week we give it the live action adaptation treatment and discuss our dream cast from Tiana to Facilier and everyone in between.  We also announce this week's winner of our weekly Giving Away KJ Contest as one lucky listener will take home a 1/1 Original Sketch of Louis by Disney artist Kevin-John!

This week on the Disney Magic Hour we are in 1967 to take in the Sherman Brothers musical vehicle, The Happiest Millionaire.  All two and a half hours plus of it.  Due to the extreme length of this film we are going to try something new towards how we discuss the whole package.  Will it work?  Will we be eating by a dozen alligators?  Who knows! We also take your questions from the Facebook page, and announce this week's winner of the Giving Away KJ contest!

Another week, another huge show!  This week we review the live action adaptation of the animated classic, Beauty and the Beast.  The original had such a huge impact the biggest question building up to this release was, "Why?".  What benefit could a rehash of a near perfect film create?  Was it going to be possible to view this film without constantly comparing it to the original?  Will it keep the streak going of strong live action adaptations?  Much to discuss!  We also take your questions from the Facebook page, and announce our first ever winner of the Giving Away KJ weekly contest!

The latest entry into our ongoing Disney Movie Hour segment brings us to landmark, sad as it is.  1967's animated adaptation of Rudyard Kiplings' The Jungle Book is the final film to be produced by Walt Disney himself.  Walt passed on December 15th, 1966, the film releases nearly a year later on October 18th, 1967.  His passing brings about new challenges to the studio going forward and the final film itself has quite the road to production as well.  The original treatment and music were almost fully tossed out before taking on a change of tone.  The story is fascinating and the film more so when broken down.  With that in mind, much to discuss! Lets go! It's showtime!

Episode #79 brings us to new territory as we visit the recently opened Geyser Point Bar and Grill at the Wilderness Lodge and it's our first ever live review.  Scattered among us taking a taste of the menu, we also discuss some recent developments in the Disney bubble from Moonlight Magic to a not-so-surprising reveal about a character in the upcoming live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.  Lots to do.  Lots to eat.  Let's go! With all the live action adaptations we have brewing from Disney currently, this week we list what WE would actually want to see made into a live action version.  Strangely, there are numerous that we would enjoy seeing getting the revisit.  Additionally we say what one title we would NOT want to ever get a remake.  As we do every week, at the finish of the episode we answer your questions on Facebook! Additionally we discuss out Halloween Horror Nights special guest and a WDW Radio Cruise to Alaska! So much to discuss, let's go, it's showtime!

On this week's episode we discover that we need a 5th person for the next bracket show we do! So many ties were decided by calling in a 5th voice as we put Disney ballad against Disney ballad, bracket style!  From Snow White, Frozen, and Sean Connery this show has it all.  Who wins though?  Lot's to discuss! High atop the mountain of strangeness sits a land where films like Gnome Mobile reside. A film released as the studio was going through major changes with the passing of Walt Disney, we see the Banks children reunited along with Ed Wynn and the director of the film that featured all three, Mary Poppins. So it has Robert Stevenson at the helm, Ed Wynn in the cast, the Sherman Brothers making some tunes and it's all based on a book by Upton Sinclair. What could do wrong? Let's see! Lot's to do! Extra sized show this week as we tackle on the absolute classics in 1964's Mary Poppins. The music, the acting, the costumes, the effects, there is so much to discuss that there is no time to lose. On this week's show we change focus. We looked to you, the DMH Family, to share your favorite Disney memories. Whether it be something that happened in the parks, on a cruise, a golf course, anything as long as it happened while visiting Disney in some aspect. The response was huge and we are happy to say that we read ALL of your comments on the Facebook group page. Additionally, me, Mel, and Bryan share our memories as well. HUGE episode this week as Pete, Mel, Bryan, and Ryan preview all the Disney films coming to theaters in 2017. From space operas to gladiator Hulks and the Day of the Dead, it's a varied platter of goods. Not all projects are equally appealing though and we go though which ones get us the most excited and which ones need to prove their mettle. The music of a Disney animated film can make it something that stretches generations. The ballads, the title track, the sidekick song, all of them can find their way into the heart of the watcher and give that film a very specific memory. Even more so, a great villain or hero song can define the entire film overall. Through the years there have been numerous villain and hero songs that have become staples of the Disney brand, but which is our favorite? That last bit is very important. "Our favorite". Not the "best", or even "your" favorite, but ours. To everyone who fills out the bracket below, you will most likely have a vastly different outcome and that is what makes it so great.
