The Lord provides peace for us because of his protection of us. He is our provision of peace and the follower of the Shepherd always wins. If you are stuck on you, it ruins you, but you can trust in Him. There couldn't been any greater contridiction between Psalm 23 and Sinatra's "My Way". Are you doing things your way or by relying on your Shepherd?
Todd joins Point of View host Kerby Anderson to discuss apologetics and the importance of having a biblical worldview. (Point of View's broadcasts are available at www.PointofView.net.)
In the most popular verse in the most popular passage in the Old Testament, we find that who is with you is really important, especially when walking through dangerous situations. Trusting your Shepherd is of ultimate importance because sheep are only as strong as the Shepherd they follow. In fact, If closeness to the Shepherd is the goal, then danger is the advantage. Do you worry about the danger around you? Worrying is being afraid that God might get it wrong. Bitterness is believing that He did.
What do you think of when you think of Psalm 23? It's one of the most quoted passages in the Bible throughout all of history and even in current pop culture. In the first of a three part series, we learn that the Lord is our leader. There is no greater apologetic than someone going through a tough season and following God all the way. If dependance is the goal, then weakness is the advantage.
John 12 is the pivot point in John's public defense of Jesus. The hinge of John 12 is something that you cannot miss because it shows you what you must do if you really understand who Christ is. If you don't feel that you are in need of Christ as much as your most villified enemy, you are missing the point. And if you've understood what he said, you understand that Jesus is all that he claims to be.
"Those that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength," Isaiah 40:31 tells us. As believers it's important that we take the opportunity to break from routine and to be reminded of who He is and who we are. And to spend extended time reflecting on His character, both through song, corporate time in His Word and communion. This Sunday was an opportunity to do just that and so while this is not a typical message per se, we hope it will give you a chance to refocus your affections on the Lord and be reminded of His great love and grace.
The religious leaders decide in John 11 to kill Jesus in order to protect the nation of Israel. Like them, we can perform acts of "faith" that have a veneer of piety but are at their core self-centered and destructive. Todd explains that what we do is not as important as why we do it, why what others do ultimately should not matter to us, and that what God has done is the only thing that should matter.
The Resurrection: Game Changer
Do we often think of Easter as a once-a-year holiday? Where we focus more on inviting our unbelieving friends than we do about its significance for us as Christ-followers every other day of the year? Revisiting the Easter celebration, Jonathan walks us through the foreshadowing of Jesus' death and its centrality to our faith. How did the Jews miss it then, and in what ways can we miss it still today?
