Getting paid what you are worth…Labor Day Series | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 23:24

Episode 24:   Getting paid what you are worth: Earning = Training Period + Skill + Demand These three simple factors determine how the market pays.  The time needed to train for a position (or conversely the time it takes the employer to train someone else for your position after he fires you).  The employee’s skill and performance level.  The market demand for the product or service that the employee provides. In a free market that’s how earning compensation is determined.  If you’re not being paid what you desire.  Then change one or more of the three factors in the equation.  Once you’re hitting on all cylinders, offer yourself to the marketplace.  An employer that recognizes value will hire you- not because he’s fair, but because it’s in his own self-interest to do so.  Burger King up over 20%, S&P500 @ 5.5% ytd…I remain skeptical, more on learning how to decrypt propaganda, factory utilization maybe based on unsecured subprime loans | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:09

Episode 20:   Market closes up again this week, yielding about 5.5% so far year-to-date.  But I remain skeptical and explain why. Burger King up over 20% since episode 12 when we discussed their new CEO. Review of wealth building principle #8- how to decrypt propaganda.  Learn from the master…read George Orwell. Factory utilization looks to me like the only thing that is booming is commercial aircraft and automobiles- in my opinion funded with unsecured subprime loans.  Credit card incentives, Investing in currencies, US Dollar appears to be in an uptrend | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 25:27

Episode 18: Credit card usage…enjoy the incentives but pay off the balance monthly. I don’t trade on the FOREX but I do use ETFs to take advantage of movements in the US Dollar (UUP & UDN). UUP appears to be in an upward trend. It’s above the 50 day moving average and has broken through short term resistance. The 50 day has crossed the 200- this is a very bullish sign. As the Fed continues to tapper, the European Central Bank appears to be easing, this should further help the US dollar. I don’t trade commodities but I do use options, especially protective puts.  Saving vs Investing, You should be saving at least 20% | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:09

Episode 16: Saving vs Investing: Earn + Save + Invest = Wealth Learning to SAVE precedes learning to INVEST. Most people want to skip ahead to Investing, because it’s thought to be more glamorous. That’s how the media and the financial industry have propagandized the message. The industry wants you to “invest”…so that they can charge you fees. Before you can invest, you need to save a substantial “nest egg”; otherwise the rewards for your efforts will be minimal. Mark Twain said, “You should be more concerned with the return OF your principle than the return ON your principle”. As you begin to build your nest egg, your net worth will be most impacted by your SAVING habits, not your investing achievements. Save at least 20%…remember wealth building principle 10: Wealth is a lifestyle.  Market still in Correction, How to Determine a Market Bottom, European bond Yields irrational, Long term trend lower Oil prices, Caterpillar share buy back, Buy backs distort earnings | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:44

Episode 14:  Market still in Correction, indexes remain below their 50 day moving average.  Be patient, don’t buy dips yet. How to Determine a Market Bottom?  Use the Bill O’Neil Investor’s Business Daily (www.investors.com) method.  Wait till at least the 4th day of recovery off a market bottom.  Follow through days that confirm a market’s change in direction generally occur on the 4-7 days following a bottom. European bond yields irrational.  France @ 1.46%.  Italy @ 2.8%.  German’s stock market down 11% last week. Long term trend-  lower Oil prices.  Will result in a lower cost for EVERYTHING…this price deflation will help spur the economy.  All commodities will have a lower or stable price, including Gold.  North Dakota’s oil production is about 70% of Iran, without the turmoil and drama…and without the cost of an army or navy to protect it. Caterpillar will buy back 6.5% of their shares…will give illusion of earnings growth. Corporate share buy backs in 2014 are averaging about 4%, this is used as balance sheet engineering to mask stagnant growth.  During a recovery and an expanding economy, companies issue stocks (stock splits).  Buy backs are a form of contractions, NOT growth.   Subscribe to the Wealthsteading Podcast via iTunes:  https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/wealthsteading-podcast/id896417058 Hosted by John Pugliano.  WSP 0011 140731 Market drops 2%, Wage inflation, Rising rates, Incoming CEOs, Ebola pandemic, IFM energy tax | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:44

Episode 11:  Market review and related news * Markets in turmoil today…S&P500 drops 2%, it’s second worse day of the year and breaks through it’s 50 day moving average. *  Based on chart action, it looks like the indexes could keep moving lower for the next couple weeks…BUT who knows?  The Fed’s money pumping has kept this market RESILENT for 18 months, maybe that trend will continue and traders will come in and buy the dips. * Spanish bond yields are the lowest in 225 years…despite their large debt and poor economy. * Although there is a concern over inflation and specifically higher wagers (dragging down corporate profits) commodities prices are neutral to down- in spite of geopolitical conflicts… Oil down over 7% since last quarter; Gold down 3% past three weeks.   US Dollar moving up. * Markets are concerned the Fed might actually start raising interest rates.  If Yellen feels she’s spooked the markets, in a day or two, she’ll probably try to walk it back. * Changing of the guard at several companies- we discuss Target, WalMart, & Burger King. * Ebola as a possible pandemic. * IMF wants a global energy tax which could add as much as $1.60/gal to US gasoline.  Episode 10: Wealth is a lifestyle, Building Wealth, Investing, Retirement, Stock Trading, Freedom, Liberty | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:44

We conclude our series on the wealth building principles with #10:  Wealth is a lifestyle The pursuit of wealth is multifaceted, it’s not just one dimensional.  You can’t just work one element and expect to become financially independent. A large bank account doesn’t make you wealthy- consider the lottery winner, they don’t have the discipline to manage money and in a few years they’re bankrupt.  Same is often true of those that inherit a trust fund or a business.  They squander the wealth.  Family businesses often don’t last past the third generation because the grandchild doesn’t possess the entrepreneurial skill of the founding grandfather. Nor does a large income guarantee wealth.  You know of the celebrity or professional athlete that made 10’s of millions of dollars, only to go broke after retirement.  Highly paid professionals often fall into the same trap.  It’s not uncommon for a doctor or corporate executive to be living paycheck-to-paycheck, broke at the end of the month just like Joe Sixpack.  Their compensation just can’t sustain the lavish lifestyle. Wealth is a lifestyle because to attain it, you must implement wealth building principles, not just one element.   It’s a balanced, holistic approach…it’s a lifestyle. The wealth lifestyle is also multi-generational, it can be ingrained in a family’s culture. In this episode we conclude by reviewing the other 9 wealth building principles.
