Episode 52:  The economy is at an inflection point whereby higher interest rates are justified…BUT the market has been so distorted by Federal Reserve intervention [and other central banks] that rational yields could be detrimental. Without getting too deep in numbers or theory, we discuss the ramifications of higher interest rates in the wake of a rising dollar and lower energy costs. Key takeaways: The distortions have created an Alice in Wonderland CONUNDRUM in which uncertainty has been vastly increased- don’t be deceived by the pundits, they have no idea what will happen.  As an individual investor you must be watchful and diligent.  Be aware that rising interest rates would decrease bond value.  Keep an eye on interest rates and be very nimble in the stock market.   The next six months have the potential to be a boom or bust for the economy. They Federal Reserve may have lost their ability to control interest rates. Episode 51:  Since “purchasing power parity” (PPP) has been in the news, this is a follow up to the previous episode about GDP.  Don’t believe the hype…China’s GDP is about half of the USA.  Obfuscaters try to use PPP to overestimate the dominance of China.  [The media purposefully take data out of context…ask yourself why?] Ultimately China will follow the same path as Japan- automation & technology will weaken their cheap labor competitive advantage.  Demographics are working against China…China will become OLD before they become RICH. Episode 49:  The least downloaded of the 10 wealth building principles is: #9 Be a Giver.  No surprise, which also explains why so many people don’t have wealth.  To quote Earl Nightingale: To become rich, you must first enrich others.  Truer words were never spoken. When I first wrote the ninth wealth building principle, I originally named it:  Be a Producer.  The idea was that it would be consistent with the third wealth building principle: Production is the source of wealth.  As I pondered the principle, I decided to change the name so that the emphasis would be on GIVING.  Knowing that this was already far from people’s minds. The truth of the matter is, if you’re not a producer you can’t be a giver.  And if you’re not a giver, you won’t be TRULY wealthy [i.e. happy and free]. Episode 47: My news sources are very simple. – Firstly, I avoid visual media of any kind (ie no broadcast, cable or internet TV). – To find the truth, I triangulate between the New York Times & the Wall Street Journal. – Investor’s Business Daily is a good reference for current stock market trends. – The Financial Times, Reuters, Bloomberg, The Economist, & Forbes are newsworthy. – Go directly to the source, many government & industry groups make their data easily accessible. – REMEMBER: everyone has an agenda, everyone is trying to sell you something. Episode 43:  The uptrend continues with apparent strong support.  The S&P500 closed at another record high.  Watch to see if the index can gain and hold ground around 2050.  If that level can be supported for a week or so, then it’s highly probable that a Santa Claus rally could carry the S&P500 to near 2100 by year end. Episode 41:  Market review- the uptrend is going into its third week of strong gains, the next hurtle to get past is the mid-term elections this week.  If the market reacts positively to the results and irrational exuberance sets in then we could see new highs with the S&P500 approaching 2040-2050. My positions are spread over five groups: General Market, US Dollar, Transportation, Staples, & Utilities.  I believe the global economy is extremely brittle and for that reason have limited my exposure to just a few individual stocks; therefore, I’ve tried to mitigate risk by putting the vast majority of my assets in ETFs.
