Obamacare & the future of health care, Building Wealth, Investing, Retirement, Stock Trading, Freedom, Liberty, Applying History | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 32:14

Episode 69:  Highlights of people’s impressions of Obamacare and possible investment opportunities are covered.  Also discuss the upcoming Supreme Court review. In my opinion, Obamacare made a bad system worse.  I believe what is needed is to remove the third party payer (insurance or government) and establish a market based system- similar to elective medical procedures that are largely paid for by the consumer out-of-pocket: plastic surgery, Lasik, etc. The system is so broken that even if the government doesn’t reform it, some market forces will prevail.  I envision a time when people will carry only catastrophic insurance and will travel for elective treatments and surgery- “medical tourism” to India, Mexico or yet established redoubts like Indian Reservations or Cruise Ships.  New year new market DOWNTURN, Building wealth, Investing, Retirement, Stock Trading, Freedom, Liberty, Applying History | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:09

Episode 68: The market has been down the past four trading sessions, not a good way to start off the year.  Both the S&P500 and NASDAQ are trading below their 50 day moving average. My opinion is that this is more about the state of the global economy than about the price of oil.  Today 10 year Treasuries hit 2.04%, that’s a sure sign of fear.  Watch to see if the S&P500 can stay above 2016.  If not, 1972 is the next stop on the way to the 200 day moving average at ~1955.  You’re not Warren Buffett, Building Wealth, Investing, Retirement, Stock Trading, Freedom, Liberty, Applying History | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:51

Episode 67: The number one mistake in failing to build wealth is not saving enough.  Number two is making poor investment decisions.  The financial industry wants everyone to think they’re an investors…so that they can charge you fees.  Most people shouldn’t be classified as investors…first you must EARN and then SAVE. Don’t be conned or hoodwinked into bad investment choices that aren’t appropriate for you or that are “too good to be true”.  You’re not Warren Buffett, don’t kid yourself.  Earn, save, and educate yourself before you consider investing.  Buy new tires or a new car? Building Wealth, Investing, Retirement, Stock Trading, Freedom, Liberty, Applying History | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 11:17

Episode 66:  I want to end the year by stressing Wealth Building Principle #2- Live Debt Free.  Before you can be an investor, you must first be an Earner and then a Saver.  It has to occur in that order.  The two largest ticket items for most people are their house and their car- if you can control your spending on these two items you can build wealth rapidly. In this episode I discuss the advantage of keeping your old car on the road. Episode 65:  The normalizing of relations with Cuba will ultimately provide solid returns for shrewd investors.  The country has rich resources and with a population of 11 million people and GDP of just $72 billion, they have potential for sustained long term growth. In this episode I stress the need to be post-political.  At a high level we discuss future potential investment opportunities in Cuba.   Sony hack should have spooked markets, Building Wealth, Investing, Retirement, Stock Trading, Freedom, Liberty, Applying History | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:56

Episode 63:  The Sony security breach was unprecedented and regardless of who was responsible for the attack, the vulnerability should have sent fears throughout global stock markets. It’s now plainly evident that EVERY corporation, government, and institution is VULNERABLE to a loss of non-public information.  If attacks persist, this will cripple all commerce.  In World War II the security slogan was, “loose lips sink ships”.  In the 21st century it will be: cyber attacks sink the economy. Much was made about the celebrity gossip revealed in the private emails and politicians tried to score points for their side as to who was standing tough and who was an appeaser.  The “blackmail” about not releasing the movie “The Interview” was a side show. The real damage is the catastrophic loss of private information.  [Wikileaks, Snowden, Iranian centrifuges, Petraeus emails, now Sony…anybody see a trend?] Other than a rally in a few cyber security stocks, the market had no perceived reaction.  At least on the surface.  I have to believe that every corporate executive realizes the severity of the situation and is coming to the conclusion that not much can be done to prevent a persistent attacker. I wouldn’t be surprised if after the holiday cheer wears off, the harsh reality of the situation sobers the market up to a pullback.  Be nimble with your investments.  Federal Reserve said nothing and market resumed uptrend, Building Wealth, Investing, Retirement, Stock Trading, Freedom, Liberty, Applying History | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:57

Episode 62  The Federal Reserve didn’t address any of the global issues but they did promise to be patient with raising interest rates and also mentioned that inflation could drop to as low as 1%. The market likes cheap money and low energy costs so we’re back near all-time record highs on the S&P500.  This was a very shallow and extremely short lived pullback, perhaps the market is changing personality and we’ll see more volatility and switchbacks in early 2015.  ND shale holds the keys to OIL prices, Building Wealth, Investing, Retirement, Stock Trading, Freedom, Liberty, Applying History | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:48

Episode 61:  In this episode we discuss the actual cost of pumping oil- it’s a lot lower than you think.  We also discuss the concept of taking things to the limit, to weed out emotional responses.  In particular we look at North Dakota’s history of shale oil fracking & horizontal drilling. The final take away for today is to be aware of the consequences of imbalance- Oil has plunged some 45%, not because the cost structure has changed, but because there is an imbalance between supply & demand.  McDonalds CEO is a NERD, Building Wealth, Investing, Retirement, Stock Trading, Freedom, Liberty | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:19

Episode 60:  McDonalds vs Burger King…several months ago you’ll remember I was impressed with the turnaround at Burger King due in large part to their new young CEO. The disparity continues between two otherwise common businesses-   Burger King rounds out the year UP around 70% and McDonald’s is DOWN about 5%. In this episode we discuss the differences of the two companies and end on a positive note for McDonalds mostly because of this little talked about fact- CEO Don Thompson is an electrical engineer and as a young man cut his teeth working in aerospace & ROBOTICs…that’s the tell for me.  In coming years, automation will be the driver for profits, as fast food restaurants struggle to replace high wage low skilled workers.  Don’t write McDonalds off just yet, having a NERD robotics engineer at the helm may just save their sinking ship.  Watch the Fed & 50 dma this week, Building Wealth, Investing, Retirement, Stock Trading, Freedom, Liberty | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 16:41

Episode 58:  Today the S&P500 broke below its 50 day moving average, the NASDAQ is resting on its. The 50 day line is a key indicator, watch to see if it ultimately acts as support for the indexes.  If not the breach could result in a fall to the 200 dma (and below).  That would take the S&P500 to about 1945, which in my humble opinion is likely since that’s less than a 2% drop.  Today the S&P500 was down 0.63% with intraday fluctuation of 1.8%. On Wednesday the Federal Reserve will hold a press conference- they’ll try to placate the markets.  Watch to see the reaction of Wall Street.  The Fed may be losing their grasp as the manipulator of last resort. The real story is reflected in bond yields.  The 10 year Treasury yield continues to drop, now at around 2.12%.  That’s a sure sign of concern among major institutional investors.  If they’re concerned, you should be too.  What is the perfect stock trading system? Building Wealth, Investing, Retirement, Stock Trading, Freedom, Liberty | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:38

Episode 57:  The perfect stock trading system is the one that works best for you.  Don’t believe the scammer’s claims that their back tested algorithm is fail-safe.  The same goes for late night TV infomercials that tout real estate flipping or get rich options trading schemes. In stock trading, as well as life…you need to develop your own methods that reflect and resonate with your inner abilities and passions.  What works for others won’t necessarily work for you. Your creator made you unique and different from all other creatures- take advantage of that and make something of it.  Closing out this uptrend, Building Wealth, Investing, Retirement, Stock Trading, Freedom, Liberty | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 10:44

Episode 55:  The bottom line- this week US Treasuries fell more than 8.5%, while at the same time consumer spending is accelerating.  The Big Money is fearful of energy sector default (corporate & government).  The panic has spilled over to non-energy related stocks.  I’ve taken profits and will wait for the next opportunity.
