Angelina Jolie is in talks to join Marvel Studios' The Eternals film, likely playing Sersi, daughter of Helios and Perse. Sersi is the only fifth level adept, the highest possible, among the Eternals in the discipline of matter rearrangement. New posters for Avengers: Endgame confirm the death of Princess Shuri and (possibly) tease the Mirror Dimension, a parallel dimension. In Doctor Strange, it allows the user to practice their magical abilities and fight their enemies without the public's knowledge. Skilled sorcerers are able to fold matter and distort space. Could the Doctor and Wong have some hidden tricks up their sleeve? Florence Pugh, star of Fighting with My Family, is in talks to join Scarlett Johansson in the solo Black Widow film which is set to debut in 2020. Who could she be playing? On this week's episode, James Gunn has begun assembling the new roster of Task Force X members that will comprise The Suicide Squad. Idris Elba is in talks to replace Will Smith as Floyd Lawton AKA Deadshot, while Dave Bautista may be joining the cast as Peacemaker, alongside new Squad members Polka-Dot Man, King Shark, and Ratcatcher. Margot Robbie is expected to return as Harley Quinn. Stephen Amell announced that the CW series, Arrow, will conclude after a 10-episode eighth season. The series, which spawned other DC tentpole shows like The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow will air its final season starting this fall. Aquaman producer, Peter Safran, gave some more insight on The Trench spin-off, Aquaman 2, and how The Conjuring universe has influenced their approach to world of Atlantis. Batman is celebrating his 80th birthday in style this year, including a kick-off celebration at SXSW 2019 that will be spread across all mediums, including comics and TV. The brand new trailer for Brightburn debut and it begs the question if this will set off a new trend to deconstruct mythic characters like Superman, and others. Black Panther and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse score big at the 91st Academy Awards. The former took home three Oscars for Best Costume Design (Ruth Carter), Best Production Design (Hannah Beachler) and Best Original Score (Ludwig Goransson), while the latter took the win for Best Animated Film (Lord & Miller, Peter Ramsey, et al). Will Smith is reportedly not returning for James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, Kevin Feige addresses the continuity of the Marvel-Disney+ original series, the timeline of The Eternals. On the DC side, Kevin Tsuijihara reaffirms that the connectivity of the DC film universe is not a priority, and Steven Spielberg may be going to war with Netflix.

The Punisher and Jessica Jones are officially canceled, Netflix announced. The Marvel-Netflix era will conclude with season 3 of Jessica Jones. Kevin Feige addressed the use of James Gunn's script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Black Widow not being rated R. And, Captain Marvel draws some backlash from internet trolls. We need to stop feeding them.

J.J. Abrams and John Boyega announce the end of principal photography on Star Wars: Episode IX, the last chapter of the new trilogy, with a heartfelt message and photo. Ben Affleck confirms his Batman exit and retires his cape and cowl, while Star Trek is getting a new animated series on Nickelodeon.

WB is developing a spin-off film based on The Trench from Aquaman. James Wan will produce the modestly budgeted DC horror film. A new spot debuted for Avengers: Endgame during the Big Game, giving us new looks at Captain America, Black Widow, Tony Stark, Nebula, Rocket Raccoon, and Thor, along with a new promotional photo teasing Professor Hulk. Once the storyline for Endgame wraps up, is their potential for expanded Marvel stories on platforms like Disney+ that could take place at various points within the Marvel Cinematic Universe? What effect will the merger of The Walt Disney Company and 21st Century Fox have on the industry?

The Batman is officially on the way and will land on June 25, 2021. Ben Affleck has exited the role in favor of a new, younger actor to play Bruce Wayne and his alter-ego. Director Matt Reeves says the film will be a noir-inspired detective story with Batman facing off against several members of his rogues gallery. Who could take over the role? Names like Armie Hammer and Jon Hamm have been thrown out — even Nick Jonas! James Gunn is also in negotiations to direct The Suicide Squad, which drops on August 6, 2021 and will feature a new cast and roster of characters. We also got our first look at Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn featuring Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Ella Jay Basco, Rosie Perez, Chris Messina and Ewan McGregor.

The superhero genre invaded this year's Oscars when it when it was announced that several films, including Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Incredibles 2, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse were nominated for several awards. Are we finally shifting towards a Hollywood that will accept superhero movies?
