Redneck Tech Podcast

We update you guys on all the new things happening here at the office as well as what we got going on the rest of the fall. It is pedal to the metal for the next 2 months but we would not have it any other way.

On this episode of the podcast we sit down with our newest client and friend Greg Ritz of Hunt Masters TV on the Outdoor Channel. Greg has been in the outdoor industry for over 23 years and has one of the highest rated and best produced shows on television. Greg's passion is story telling and we get to talk to him about why stories and people are what drive him as well as how he got into the industry.

As many of you know Caleb got a bull down in New Mexico and now we are back in Utah getting ready for some more elk action. We all sit down in the hotel before the hunt kicks back off and talk about these past few hunts as well as what is coming up soon.

Clint is a good friend to the Copeland Creative and the Redneck Tech Crew. He has been doing some freelance work for us in the last few weeks so we finally had a day to sit down and talk with him about his life and some of the things he has learned being a freelance in the outdoor space.

Ryer, Clay and Caleb have been hard at it already this fall. With 4 hints and trips under their belt Caleb and Ryer sit down (well they are driving 11 hours) to talk about what has happened and what we have gotten done so far. Ryer also goes over his new flying system for traveling on hunts.

We wanted to try and get most of the class on a podcast after the teaching was over to make sure they feel like they got their monies worth as well as give us some constructive criticism for how we can improve the class going forward. We also tell a couple stories from the class.

We just got back from our first trip of the 2020 fall in Utah. Caleb and Clay were both with Wild Country Outfitters outside of Ogden, Utah for a spot and stalk early season velvet mule deer hunt. Clay spilt his time with John Dudley from Nock On TV and Brock White of Rowley White RV. We get to sit down and talk about Clay's first trip to film out west as well as Caleb goes over the pros and cons of filming this western hunt on a RED.

We wanted to get a podcast going with the participants of the class and find out what they are hoping to get out of the class. We get some good insight on where their heads are at as well as what we feel like we need to spend the most time on. We will have a follow up to this podcast coming soon.

We had our class last weekend and we wanted to talk to a couple of the participants and see what they learned and what they took away from the class.

Caleb and Clay sit down to talk about what the upcoming fall looks like. We talk about Clay getting excited for his first ever elk hunt as well as talk about what some of the upcoming travel looks like as well as provide some of our travel tips.

1. Know your camera (and all your gear) 1. Know how to use them 2. Know their menus and their buttons. 3. Know where the rings and the functions of the camera are and what they do. 2. Pre-Production 1. Do the work on the front end and do some planning 2. Answer questions you need answers for before you are in the field and cant get them answered or are unprepared for them. 3. Get The Broll 1. You can never have enough of this 2. Get shots that move the story along or explain what is happening. 3. All the little sponsor clips 4. Leaves 5. Gear 6. etc. 4. Get the Dialogue 1. Talking to the camera 2. Getting the information 3. Assume the viewer is dumb 4. Who, what, when, where, why, weather. 5. Get Transitions 1. How are we getting from one place to another? 2. How are days changing? 3. Are we getting the things we need to move the story from one place or time to another. 6. Get the Establishing shots 1. Where are we? 2. How do we get the viewer inside a place? 3. How do we get a viewer to a location? 7. Get the Scenics 1. What does these add to your story? 2. What are they? 3. How do we get them? 8. Always get the Recreates 1. The things that happen when the camera cant be on the hunter the whole time 2. All the little things that make a story move along. 3. Small details 4. Tights 9. Communication 1. Knowing what is going on 2. What animal to shoot 3. When to shoot and when to move. 10. Be a producer First and A hunter Second (if you want good content) 1. This is hard to do but like we have said before this is a decision you have to make as to what kind of content you want to create.

In this episode we talk about the latest details on the Production Class as well as we go over some of the things and strategies we have learned when it comes to Western Hunting.

This is a long one folks, we get into all kinds of juicy topics as well as get into some really cool stories and even some life lessons. We were really excited to have Jamey here to give us his perspective on these subjects and we think you will like what he brings to the table.

Kyle Scott is one of my long time friends before I really even got into this business full time. Kyle is a Kentucky boy who likes basketball, but we wont hold that against him. He is now the producer for Wentz Brothers Outdoors. Carson Wentz, the QB for the Philadelphia Eagles and his brother travel all over hunting all kinds of stuff in this series. Kyle knows his stuff and we had an awesome conversation with some old stories that brought back some good memories. Hope you enjoy it.
