We all have a Cross. 1 Corinthians 1:18 - 18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the POWER OF GOD 1 Corinthians 1:23-24 - we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called… the power of God and the wisdom of God. Jesus doesn’t take away suffering, He ENTERS INTO IT + TRANSFORMS suffering! We judge God based on our experience – instead of believing in God who transforms the meaning of that experience. We need to stop judging God based on our own wisdom. Stop putting God on trial! Romans 8:18 18 I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us.

Fr. Bryan gave this homily on the 3rd Sunday of Lent. He preached about one of the most dangerous images we can have of Jesus is Jesus, the FIXER. He preached about Jesus' primary mission was of Savior, not fixer. He preached about suffering and what we are to do with our suffering to ensure that we dont abandon Jesus when hardships and trials enter into our lives.

After James and John’s Mother asks for them to sit at the Right and Left… Jesus says… “You do not know what you are asking.[j] Can you drink the cup that I am going to drink?” They said to him, “We can.” 23 He replied, “My cup you will indeed drink,” Jesus points BACK to the CROSS! Because Jesus knows that PRIDE and AMBITION are DESTROYED by the Cross The Cross will humble you - and we need humility to be Saints! Everyone has a cross... Jesus said “If anyone will follow me, let him deny himself, take up HIS Cross, and follow me.” My Cross is not the same as yours, and yours is not the same as mine. It will be in carrying your cross that pride is stripped away! Ask God to send you a cross, and you will receive it! Litany of Humility That others may be loved more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be esteemed more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be chosen and I set aside, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be praised and I go unnoticed, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be preferred to me in everything, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

He preached that it was with lust that the devil tempted Jesus three times - the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and lust of pride and how the devil will tempt us with lust too this Lent.
