My guest today has been dancing for most of his life. As a child he started off with ballroom, then eventually discovered Argentine Tango in 1996. In December of that year, he hosted the first Tango Workshop in Cleveland, OH. For over two decades, he has built tango communities and started the careers of several now-world famous instructors. Having performed on stage and on Television, today's guest is also a prominent Tango DJ. My guest today is an internationally renown bandoneon player, composer, and arranger. She's originally from Denmark, but is now based in Buenos Aires. Having studied with many great maestros, such as Carlos Corales, Juan José Mosalini, and Julián Peralta, today's guest currently plays with several tango groups you might have heard of: Orquesta Típica Andariega, Sexteto Andiamo, and the all-women group Las Malevas. She also helps run the Buenos Aires Tango Lab, an organization that educates young people about tango history, dance and music. My guest today is an internationally renowned tango instructor. She is based in both the US and Russia, but grew up in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She's been dancing all her life, and studied a variety of genres. She graduated from the State Dance Academy of Tashkent, and became a principal dancer with the Alisher Navoi Theater of Opera and Ballet. Lucky for us, she discovered Argentine Tango and became fascinated with its creative nature. His comic strip, Dumbbells, was published in several magazines throughout North America. And in 1999, a trip to Buenos Aires marked a major turning point in his artistic vision. He would shift away from the commercial side of creating art, and delve deeper into the world of galleries and private collections. For today's show, I have a returning guest. He was one of the first people I interviewed for this podcast back in 2017, and I'm thrilled to have him back again. He's been dancing professionally since 1998, starting out as a ballroom dancer. Then, he fell in love with Argentine Tango. He established City Style Tango, a dynamic studio located just outside Detroit, Michigan. He's a choreographer, teacher, event organizer, and competitor.
