IT in the D show

IT in the D

Summary: So what do a couple of IT guys from Detroit talk about when they go to the bar? Welcome to the IT in the D show, brought to you by long-time Detroit IT veterans Bob Waltenspiel (The Sales Guy), and Dave Phillips (The Geek). The duo has been putting on free networking events for the metro Detroit information technology community for over 10 years, helped more than 1,200 people find new jobs, and been featured in local and national news stories and publications for their efforts. After taking on speaking engagements starting in 2011 that helped refine their message, in 2013 they took their ramblings to a broadcast format that has proven to be far more popular than anyone expected. The IT in the D show is more conversational and less instructional – it is far more geared toward entertainment and local goings-on in the metro Detroit area than a deep-dive about specific technical issues. It’s a bar chat, not technical seminar. You’ll hear more movie quotes than MySQL queries and more Depeche Mode than development methodologies. Not that the guys don’t roll up their sleeves and deep dive from time to time, but with guests ranging from local CIOs and CEOs to roller derby girls and pop culture icons from the 80s, don’t let the “IT” in “IT in the D” scare you. Each weekly two-hour show typically includes current events and stories, guests ranging from local entrepreneurs to local IT rock stars to people with great local stories to tell, rants, raves and everything you’d expect from a couple of guys who have known each other and been drinking together for nearly two decades.

Episode 352 – The CHAZ, News, Events, and More | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 6

And we are good to go. What is going on? Welcome to episode 352 of the IT in the D show. We are broadcasting live. Bob, can we let's do one real quick guys. We're not doing anything scary. This week. Fred Brown is not allowed near this broadcast. I am not staying up until one in the morning. Having conversations with freaked out people. Again, we are broadcasting live from the podcast. He trade autonomous zone here in beautiful betray, Michigan, probably sales guy that the Twitter is doing. The Twitter is find us online@itinthed.com. I don't know why, because we are it in the D and you still are not even with a pandemic going on. You're still planting a garden by putting top soil over a grass with styrofoam Cox. It's a Turrell what's going on. This is world. This is the world we live in. Are they just doing things to humor me right now? I say, dude, we are in season four of whatever show that we're all on. And the writers are all trying to get fired so they can move on to better projects. And they're just making shit up. As they go along. The park is sitting on their hands, trying to release this Chaz episode. They have to, Oh, they are dying. Hey, before we do that, let me go ahead and fire. When ready are you firing? When ready? Now you can carry on.           I can't dude, just watching what's going on in Seattle. I can't stop laughing. It's like, this is a human South park episode. Come to life. This is the onion and Babylon be in the cell park. All had a baby. And do that now, like bikers, like, did anything happen with the bikers that were going out there today? I didn't know if it was, I don't like talking about this stuff. I don't know if it's real or not. Cause you're like blinkers are on route and I'm like, Oh, I want to see this. This is like a put paper view on man. This is solved the nationals who doesn't want to see that? Oh, that would be amazing. I'm not going to lie. You haven't figured out what's going on. It's like there, they be like occupied as six block territory of Seattle and they, and to go against the injustices of the world, they've done the same thing. The U S does by building. The very first thing they did was built a wall with checkpoints and our guards fight the power. Apparently there's some rogue, independent rapper with his entourage. It's like beating the shit out of why isn't this a movie like you wouldn't pay 20 bucks a day to watch the cameras in there. We are living that's that's the dude, whoever created black mirror, season six, the fully immersive experience is just a goddamn genius. Like that's, that's the only thing I that's the only way I describe what the hell is going on right now. Mark Burnett. You cancel cops. You don't give me chance. Come on. Like Howard, do there's gotta be life. I actually, now that you said that there's gotta be live feed somewhere. Like there has to be, no, they don't like there. I was watching something from Steven Crowder and it's like some guy who was like, Oh, he's on the scene. Um, and they, like, they took him and beat the shit out of him in and interrogation tent and wanted to see his film. Cause they thought he was a conservative pundit. Um, so there's like actually 10 and I don't know if they're full of shit or not, or making stuff up. You know what I mean? Like, that'd be a 10 ton homo Bay. That's the thing with these tweets. Like you don't know if they're like, like when, when the tweak you wanted to date to, they ran out of food. Cause the homeless people storm the tent. Well, and then you've got Fox news using, um, conflated images where they're like they're Photoshopping multiple images together to try to paint the situation is worse than it really is. So that's not helping. So I don't know what's going on. I mean basically what the guy said was, uh, well, yeah.

Episode 351- Fred Brown, Infectious Disease Expert, Michigan Bars and Restaurants Reopening | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:50:33

What is going on, everybody? How are we doing? This is the it and the D show episode 351. We are still in quarantine, even though we're slowly getting back into business, cheers to all the bars and restaurants that got to open up today. A guest this week of the illustrious one, mr. Fred Brown. He was on about a month ago, actually. What about a month and a half ago? Right? When everything started breaking kind of educating us on COVID and what a better time to bring them back then, uh, cause all the madness going on right now with the doubts and misinformation and all this other stuff.     Oh. And let's not forget all the bars and restaurants reopening and everybody believing it's bar crawl day. Yeah. Let's not forget. Yeah. Hockey glass will save us all here to clear up all the madness and Dave, you know what you may fire when ready. All right. Yeah. And Fred, since the last time, uh, we've decided we're not playing the intro, uh, during these video sessions. So we're not going to make you suffer through that again. Okay. It was very inspiring. Welcome. And thank you for hanging out with us. This is the it, and the D show we are hanging out, uh, in our respective houses for the time being, this is episode three 51. This is Bob, the sales guy that is Dave, the geek, Randy. I do the Twitters is doing the Twitter, find it online it and the d.com and do us a favor, give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine podcasts are sold. And uh, yeah. So this is usually where we talk about the events and we have not put any back on the calendar just yet. Uh, but now that things are starting to open up, we will be looking at doing so. Um, I know our buddy Neil was at, uh, where we were supposed to be having our first event that got canceled Del Ray cozy lounge. Uh, so we'll be reaching out to them and seeing how things are going and maybe go back there. Uh, and then we'll work on the Anarbor events as well. But yeah, so it's a, they're they're, they're coming soon and, uh, and, and, and look, and look and listen to, I listened to Bob with his, uh, with his new microphone. Sounded all good and stuff. Yeah. I'm not all that. It doesn't sound like I'm in the toilet. If you're not watching the show. I think I got an idea for our next event that we should all wear, like those kitty life preservers and like all handout, like, uh, so, so we have this, see the distance like around our waists. Oh, you mean like the hip waders? Yes. Yeah, exactly. Like this, just like you slide them over your head, like life preservers. And I was like, what's that going to hit? Not like a hospital, a we'll we'll do the whole thing. We'll where the, uh, the face shields with the windshield wiper, the big Brown thing around our waist life preservers. I think we, uh, we need the giant burger King hats, the giant burger King crowns from Germany. We need to find our way to get our hands on those, but Hey, a Fred's already getting a patient where we are. If you didn't hear the pre-roll, we're very, very lucky to have mr. Fred Brown back with us. Uh, I would consider how do we introduce you politely without a, uh, I guess you are all things, um, I guess why don't you go ahead and introduce yourself before I stick my foot in my mouth any further? Oh, well, I, I work a little bit in epidemiology and infectious disease. I've done. Gosh, I, I started doing the work back in 1985. We, uh, I was on the team that discovered the first and then developed the first AIDS test, uh, for HIV, uh, detecting HIV. And unfortunately at the time we, uh, had a test, but we didn't have any cure as a little bit similar to what we have with Qubit right now. But, uh, you know, HIV is at that point was really a deadly, you know, much more deadly than,

 Episode 350 – Clear 2 Go COVID-19 Screening App | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:20:57

what is going on? This is the IT in the D show. Episode 350. We are, we got a great guest this week. Mike, Willis' one of the founders of clear to go. And there's a cool new app. That's helping companies stay safe when they're bringing people back, uh, from this Kobe madness, um, which is very timely, uh, and should be a great, great conversation. Uh, and speaking of which obviously, um, we, we all acknowledge what's going on in the chaos in the world. Hopefully our show can give you a little break from that on behalf of all of us. We just want to say that we stand with all the peaceful protesters and, uh, we hope that some change can come about all of this and we can all be better for it. Um, so you know what, Dave, you may fire when ready? Okay. Welcome back. How's everything doing? This is episode three 50 of the one and only it in the DJ. We all are, are all broadcasting live from our respective houses. This is Bob, the sales guy that is Dave, the geek Randy. I do the Twitters is doing the Twitters. You can find us online at it in the D that kind of do us a favor. Give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine podcasts are sold.     Yeah. And Hey, here's a slight change to, what's become the norm over the past nine, 10 weeks. Um, we don't have any events on the calendar just yet. Uh, but we're about to, uh, so now that we've got a, you know, the stay at home order has been lifted. Uh, restaurants and bars are gonna start opening at 50% capacity starting next Monday. Uh, so yeah, it looks like we're going to have the opportunity to start bringing some events back and we'll see how we can do that. And with any luck our, uh, our guests will tell us how to do that. Not stupidly [inaudible]. So yeah, we'll figure that one out, but Hey, this show is brought to you by our very new friends, um, private internet access, uh, just to let you know, uh, we're as concerned about privacy as you are, they are founded in 2010. They are an award winning VPN provided with over a million customers all over the world. You can basically encrypt your data, do anything you do online, confidential, and secure. Uh, they offer unlimited access to over 3,200 VPN servers in 46 countries. I logged in from Europe, East, West Chicago. Um, flawlessly took me five seconds. They have dedicated apps for all platforms, for Mac windows, Linux, iOS, and even Firestick. And you can get up to 10 devices protected at the same time, and they are now open source. They've been PC Mag's editor's choice for eight consecutive years is a great product. Uh, one of the cool things you can do, um, what my cousins in Canada always bitch about not getting us, um, us network. No. So literally you can log in from anywhere in the world. So you need, if you want something from him from another side of the world, or you can watch content from streaming services, literally all over the world that have geo. So if you would like to circumvent copyright controls, this is the platform for you. Yes. And here's the, here's the key thing. They keep no logs. Uh, this has been proven in federal court twice. So the only people that will know what you're up to is you do right now, you can get, uh, 12 months for only $2 and 85 cents a month. It's a symphony, 6% discount months, 13 and 14 are free. Do us a favor, go to www.privateinternetaccess.com/ [inaudible] in the day to get started protecting yourself online today. That's private internet access.com/it in the D 76% discount. Appreciate it. Wow. Very cool. Indeed, indeed. So, Hey, we are without further ado, we'd like to get a first time we've met. We got introduced to you through, uh, through our mutual friend, Pat, but Mike Willis' in the house from clear to go. How are you doing, sir? But again, how about you, you know,

Episode 349 – Binging During Quarantine, 90 Day Fiancee and More | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:25:25

Hey, welcome to the one and only IT in the D show. This is episode 349 happy Memorial day to everybody listening. Hopefully you didn't give him a moment of silence today to all the men and women that have made the ultimate price and certainly our freedoms appreciate it. Um, it is because of people like you that we can be the self-entitled jerk wads that we are and we need, we appreciate from our homes. I think this is what our 10th or eighth edition of a foreign team, uh, something like that. Yeah. Yeah. This is, I'm a, if you don't know me, I'm Bob the sales guy that's named the geek. I do. The Twitters is doing the Twitter's. You can find us online at [inaudible] dot com do us a favor. Give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere fine podcasts are sold...       except for podcast addict cause apparently just took them off. Yeah, they got, they got pulled back. Oh, they're back now. Yeah. But, uh, and as per usual, this is usually the part of the show where we talk about our upcoming events and we ain't gotten an a in can. In fact, I actually just canceled the, uh, the Facebook listing for the Anarbor event cause that was still on the agenda. Um, yeah, because our governor just extended our stay home, stay safe again until June 12th. Yeah, exactly. So everybody in Trevor city shout out to all my friends up there. No kidding. Travers city is packed. Well, and then they did, apparently they had, um, a couple of people that showed up, uh, positive. Um, obviously they didn't catch it there, like I said, a couple. Um, and so they showed up. Uh, I guess they, you know, they went up and had it and just, you know, developed worse symptoms while they were there. So yay. You know, I think we all were kind of expecting those kinds of stories. Um, but yeah, I mean it's, and it was, uh huh. Well, yeah, no, I mean we'll see more, I'm sure. Uh, but yeah, I mean it's, you know, things got relaxed a little bit. You can have gatherings of 10 or more, you know, or 10 or fewer. Sorry. Um, and, uh, so yeah, I was, I've, I've been surprised. Uh, I left the house a couple of times, like just run a couple errands and, uh, yeah, there's a lot of cops out, so go figure holiday weekend. Uh, and the first time that gatherings are allowed, uh, there's an awful lot of police on the streets. Well, everyone's current, you know, like crazy. It's kind of like, uh, you know, the, the Toga party just opened up. It's like, you know, like there's a running like Forrest Gump to get to wherever they need to get to. You know what I mean? We've all been cropped up in months, man. Everybody's going stir crazy. What are you going to do? Um, yeah. I mean, I'm not gonna lie. I'm feeling it too. Yeah, no, I don't blame you. Um, a couple of interesting things changed this weekend. So we talked last week about my Buddhist legal came back on this weekend or blasted. And so this weekend I'm watching and two things change. Uh, they started piping in cheers and chants, crowd chants, and they basically masked off the crowd the seats with, with advertising. I'm watching it and I go usually use that kind of passively watch. I'm not actively watching. It's kind of a reading news. It's, I'm drinking coffee, you know what I mean? It's like kind of been my Sunday tradition for years and years and years and years and it sounds the same. And I go, wait a minute, there's like full on chance going on and I look up and sure. Shit, empty arena. So where are they piping it in from? Is it from past games? Is it like, are they like, where are they paddle? I don't, I don't know. I would love to, I mean it's going through the PA speakers. It can't be coming like, it can't be coming in remotely from bars. So I got an engineer pushing the cheer button when their team is doing.

Episode 348 – Facebook Avatars and the Latest Online Distractions | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:21:16

What is happening? Welcome to the one and only it in the D show in your house version. This is episode three 48 broadcasting live from our homes. This is Bob, the sales guy. That is Dave the geek. I do the Twitters is doing the Twitter is find us online @itinthed.com and do us a favor, give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine podcasts are sold. Yeah.     And again, as for usual, we're usually, this is where we usually talk about the events and stuff we have coming up. There are none, although we might be getting close. Um, we're going to see how, uh, apparently up North it goes, uh, and around the Trevor city area that just got opened up, uh, where bars and restaurants can open up at 50% capacity and that kind of stuff today. So hopefully, uh, in the near future we will be able to talk about our events in the NRA, Metro Detroit area. Cause we miss. Wow. We miss most of you. There are some of you, let's be honest, we don't, we don't miss all of you, but we miss some of you breaking news, breaking news. There's, I just got a page. Um, your Facebook avatar looks nothing like you and your stupid stop. I, I like, am I the only one like the mother of the one that remembers a Bitmoji and those bits strip things emoji. And it looks so much more a year. It wasn't that long ago. That's what I mean. Like it's like, it's like why is this, why is that a thing everywhere? Like I don't like, well I know I do cause people are bored as shit and they got nothing else to do, so why not? Well, Bitmoji is on by Snapchat. So in order to compete for one thing, here's the thing, like most of the people tried and it was like, ah, I have one friend that was like blue hair girl, pig tail fat. Like you know, like that's my boy. Right. Stephanie's looked really good. Well I think it was a, who was it? Beth Beth Mosley who just said, you know, she put hers out there. She's like, I am not making myself fat. This, this is my, this is my avatar. She's like, I'm not making myself fat. Get outta here. No. And that's, that's the beauty of this stuff. It takes about, you know, this happens what on Sunday where this madness starts and it takes up until Sunday at two o'clock, eight before I call it out, where I'm like, I'm done be before the anti ones come out. Like Homer go under my avatar, Homer sitting at the bar with all the avatars around him. Yeah. It's like literally you have to just wait for like our people to come out like two hours. Well, and like I said, I mean it dude, I get it. Like everybody's bored as shit and it's something stupid and entertaining. Have your fun. It is what it is. It's, you know, to me it's no different than sharing a meme or anything dumb like that, which I mean God knows I share enough of, um, yeah, I, I just, I don't like, I like, I will say this like I can't, cause there were, there were some people that like literally had a lot of like venom and vitriol about the entire thing that I don't get. Like, dude, just like let, let, let people enjoy their things. Like if I got mad about X, I saw a couple of things. Like people got mad. Yeah. There were, there were a few, hold on. Is it like two people on Twitter and then it turns into a Buzzfeed article. Oh, you know, yeah. No, it wasn't a ton of people. It was like I said, but there were a few people that got like, like not us snarky, but like seriously snarky about it. Um, and got kind of shitty with people about them. And it was, eh, you know, it was just like, let people enjoy the things. It's, and it's, and you know, when we do, yes. Like we posted a meme about it. Well that's us. We will openly mock our friends. That's who, that's what friends do in our world. If we're not poking at you, you're probably not on our radar at all. Like for example,

Episode 347 – Getting Back to Work, Unemployment Issues | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:31:54

Hey, what's going on? This is a one and all the it in the D show broadcasting live from our respective houses. This is Bob the sales guy. It's quarantine day again. That is David. Randy. I do the Twitters is doing the Twitter. Find us online it in the d.com where you'll find all the things. And for episode three 47, we're just going to be, uh, we've got about 20 stories on tap and uh, and see what happens. It feels like Groundhog's day against, like there's nothing really new going on, but there's everything new going on.     Yeah, it's, yeah. We'll find new people to help and new ways to try to seduce digital Debar who knows? Hey, you know what? You may fire when ready. Hey, well yeah, so for those of you watching, we decided we were not going to force you to watch the intro this time. This is episode three 47 of the one and only it in the D show. We are a bump broadcasting live in my living room. Dave's in his basement. Randy is in his front room, bedroom front room, mine it in the d.com where you will find all the things and uh, again, as, as has become the norm. Uh, this is the part of the show where we usually talk about all our upcoming events and that kind of stuff. And yet still none. Nope. Nope. Stay at home. Got extended again then. Uh, so we're staying home. In fact, I got to, I got bored enough today. Uh, I know this, I know this makes Randy happy. I reorganized my bar. I uh, he was a, he was bitching cause all the bottles were intermixed. And so now all the vodkas are with the vodka is all the whiskeys are with the whiskeys and yeah. Well plus we can't have events cause you don't want to get shamed by your neighbors or shamed by Facebook. And you know, dude, like apparently social distancing snitches are a thing. That was one of the stories that bounced across like barbecue. Becky and I dunno what it w what would it be? Um, I don't know. Social distancing. Stacy, I don't know, wrap on you, Karen. Um, well no, they're talking about, um, well there, there's, I wanted a couple of things I want to get into. One, the guy that is cutting hair out in West mission, right. And you know, he chose, um, cutting hair. He chose his livelihood over his help and basically open up his business. You know, he was, I don't know if he was ready to go bankrupt, but he already was fed up or I don't remember the exact what you know, but uh, he opened up in basically all the news caught wind, everyone co in social media, caught wind and uh, you know, there, I guess there was a like two hour wait to get a haircut. Cause like, just like me, I need, I need to get my in the borrower, but what am I supposed to do? Um, so this guy opened up and uh, yeah, uh, internet didn't like that very much. He basically didn't close them down. Yeah. And I mean, I, it's not helping or it, I mean, I guess depending on your point of view maybe, but like the, uh, the local judge, uh, said he's not enforcing the, the closure order. Uh, he's not enforcing a restraining order. So I mean you're, you're really getting to the point where this shit is, there's going to be some like some ugly legal battles about, about this crap now. Like, forget, you know, I think my favorite one is, you know, don't worry so much about, uh, you know, the U S gravy seals, mealtime six, uh, don't worry about them as much. Uh, as you know, there's like this, this crap is going to be going on in the courts for years. Well, apparently like there, there, there's a story that you were talking about this doctor, um, I guess he attended a rally and was hugging people and they caught him on Facebook and they basically trashed on him and his practice got a 68 year old doctor and they had to suspend him for a week. And really, you just like hugging people.

Episode 346 – Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, Happy Star Wars Day | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:25:28

Let's talk Star Wars and more for Star Wars Day.  The Clone Wars wraps up with an amazing set of episodes, the Mandalorian documentary drops, and more...   What is going on? This is the it and the D show. Episode 346 broadcasting live from our quarantine homes. Bob, the sales guy and then h. We are not going to be as heavy this week. Good topic one bed top. We're back to our good old fashioned drinks. No guests. Just a bunch of cool stories and talking. A lot of clone Wars. Yes, Dave, you may fire one. He's so proud of himself for having diet dr pepper as if it's something like fit regulations. Randy is, I'll take a moment to be thankful it's not a white cloth. Let's, yeah, thank you for hanging out with us. This is episode three 46 of the one and only it and that he show, like we said, broadcasting live from our quarantine homes. This is Bob, the sales guy. That is Dave the geek. Randy. I do. The Twitters is drinking diet mountain Dew. Happily find a sun line it.com and do us a favor. Give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine podcasts are sold and as you should be used to by now. This is the part of the show where we usually talk about our upcoming events and there still aren't any, so eight days y'all you celebrated a birthday last week during the show. I did a few days on Friday and a while. I'd like to thank everyone for the birthday wishes and God I got it. It's a, it's a, it's a full days of work to keep up with it to go back and thank everybody and yeah, I don't want to sound like an idiot, you know. But LinkedIn, I forgot LinkedIn does it also just like literally all day, like you're trying to like the people like you know, I don't know. Is there like a thing that you do? Like if somebody just says happy birthday, you just sit like fix your, maybe you do the haha goes way over and above. They may have more personal message. Hey man, thanks. There you it's been a while. We should catch up yet. Yeah. Yeah. Cause I know like it always makes me mad. It's kind of like when I was in the hospital, all the people that reached out wish me well and continue to do so. I'm like, God, I suck. I don't reach out enough. When people are sick. I usually back away like I wish birthdays, but I don't do it every day. And it's like, you know, saying I feel bad about it, but like not doing it enough, but like I think it makes me cognizant that I need to reach out more if people know for sure. I mean, honestly that's, that's been one of the things that I think the whole, um, like doing the zoom chats and everything else with everybody has taught me is like, I, there are a lot of people that I used to hang out with a lot more, um, that have started showing up for the zoom chats, especially after penguin con. Like, I had a lot of people reach out and were like, Hey, we haven't hung out in a while yet. He and I started inviting him to those. Um, yeah, I, I kinda suck as a friend. I, and, and I get that like, you know, but I mean it's, but it's, but I mean it's me one Oh one. I mean like if it's, and it's for the same reasons why I suck in a lot of different areas. I mean, it, I'm, I'm typically so focused on right now what's going on right now [inaudible] that I'm not good at the peripheral stuff or down the road stuff. Um, and so yeah, it is what it is. But yeah, I think, I think it's going to be a, I'm not going to wait for the new year and it's going gonna be like a mid year's resolution that I'm going to start getting better about that. So the only thing that I wanted to, like last week we had like one of the better guests that we've ever had on that, talking COBIT. Next we have to go back and watch it. Episode three 45 I almost like that and I put it in the, I put it in the notes before it went out for syndication.

 Episode 345 – Fred Brown, COVID-19 Coronavirus Data, Science, Projections | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:46:57

Every now and then, we get a little serious... and this is one of those times. This episode isn't really served justice by just listening to it, given the number of graphs, charts, and tables involved during the conversation.  We encourage you to hit our Facebook page at  https://www.facebook.com/ITinTheD/ and catch the video at https://www.facebook.com/ITinTheD/videos/168007971161634/ in order to really get the most out of this episode.  We're joined by Fred Brown, an infectious disease expert with incredible credentials.  We were lucky enough that he gave us well over an hour and a half chatting about the COVID-19 outbreak... where we are, where here really is, and what you can reasonably expect moving forward...     And we are good to go. What is up quarantine land? This is the one and only it and the D show where all the way to episode three 45 we got a phenomenal, we were very lucky to have a phenomenal guest this week. Mr Fred Brown, he's an infectious disease expert. I feel like this is every now and then we get a little serious and I feel like just just, just to keep us on our toes. We have to get a little serious now and again. Oh, and by the way, happy birthday Dave. Thank you. I appreciate it man. Um, but yeah, uh, you made fire when ready and we're looking forward to this week show. Hey, what's going on? How's everybody doing? I think our guests are still asleep with our, this is the one and only it in the D show. We made it all the way to episode three 45 do the math, Dave. So that's Bob's wrong plus 329 to close it. And the D that come to his favor, give us a, like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Buying podcasts are sold yet again, this is usually the point where we tell people about our upcoming events and we don't have any, uh, and, and the reason we don't have any upcoming events is why we have our guest on the show tonight. Uh, so yeah. Uh, I guess without further ado, let's go ahead and dive in and, and talk about God. Uh, I guess the only topic that's dominating conversation these days. Oh, you got yourself muted. Yeah. Oh, you got yourself muted, Fred red, you're on mute. There we go. There you go. I apologize. I'm off and running. Well, thanks for having me, Dave. I appreciate it. Of course. No, I appreciate you taking the time to come in. Absolutely. It's a pleasure. Well, you know, I, and I want to get the word out about, you know, what to expect a little bit with this. I, I've been in this game since 1984 we, uh, I actually helped develop the first, uh, AIDS back, uh, the first AIDS test, uh, with a company called Centocor. And we were lucky enough to find the good development first definitive test for AIDS. And from there, that was a 1986. And then from there I helped develop six or seven more vaccines effective for your guests. They have children, they, most of them have been vaccinated by, by my vaccines in the 1990s that we developed. Uh, and I've been involved with probably seven or eight pandemics. We have, we have an epidemic vote every two years. People don't really realize it because they're able to call them now, but you know, they're reasonably frequent. And so if you think about Ebola coming around twice, and we had Zika virus scare, which I was involved with malaria I've been involved with and failed it three times now. So it's, it's a, it's an interesting game. And, um, you know, what, welcome to my world. I'm looking forward to talking a little bit about it. I want to talk about, go a little bit maybe in the background, like I gave a talk to, uh, the Harvard fellows were interested in, in what was happening and so they asked me to give a presentation and I got a little bit of that here just so people have a little bit of background before we talk about what's going ...

Yeah, and then we're also going to be talking about all the good stuff being cropped up in the house, the movies and all the other carpets. We're watching Dave, you may fire when ready. I was just thinking how long the intro is. I was just thinking along the intro is, and now I'm even more bummed. You don't have Skolnik in there. Debos not in there. We have like grand master flashes in there. I literally have to just scrap and start over. Like I like I, and I'm not gonna lie, I Mikey, if you're watching, if you're listening, I'm totally gonna steal Mikey's idea with what they do with their intro. Where they have like all of their people that are going, Hey, this is so and so, and you're listening so-and-so, and you're listening so-and-so and you're listening. And then all of them are went to the show, to the show, to the show, to the show, to the show. So yeah, I like that. Thank you. Sucks. But Hey, this is episode 344. We're broadcasting live here from our own houses. This is Bob, the sales guy. That is Dave the geek. Randy. I do the Twitters is doing the Twitters, find us online IT in the D. Give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine podcasts are sold as been the norm for the past few weeks. This is the time of the show where we always talk about our upcoming events and there are none. Uh, we, we got nothing. This is a, this is all we have going in our lives to keep us good, uh, and sane and stable. Um, and so here we are. And God, I hope this sentence soon cause I need, dude, I need people in my life. I need, I need some peopling I need, I need an event. I need not, not like, not a lot of people, not, not a lot of them. Not a, not, not, but like a few, like I need like a temple bar crowd. I don't need a, uh, post Novi crowd, but I need like a temple bar crowd in my life. Yeah. Been, uh, we've been, uh, doubling like me and my wife finished Ozarks. So that's kinda been our thing. Um, and my daughter, we've kind of bonded on, uh, eighties movies and bad rap. Um, so we've been going back and forth. I, I made her watch airplay and the other night, um, that I made her watch zero hour to, to, we watch, can't buy me love. I mean, we're going, Oh dude. Did she enjoy the African Annie or dance? That's the important part of that. I'm pretty in pink. I'm not gonna lie. It's an awful movie. I don't like dude, watch it now. Her characters sucks and McCarthy sucks. Step's sucks. Ducky sucks the whole movie. The only one that's good is the, the, the lady and guys awful. Like it's a bad if the ads make, you know, I did, I watched that not too long ago. I, I dunno, maybe I, maybe I gotta go back and watch it again. Have you done, um,

Episode 343 – Mike Zapcic and Ming Chen, Podcasting During Quarantine, Comic Cons | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:07:13

Tonight we're joined by our friends from New Jersey - Mike Zapcic and Ming Chen from ASharedUniverse podcast studios, as well as AMC's Comic Book Men, comic cons around the nation, and all sorts of other places.  It's always a great time when we get to hang and chat with them, so listen in as we talk about the shared pain of shutting down our podcast studios during this pandemic, movies, tv shows, our opinions about the future of comic cons, when things might start getting back to "normal", and much, much more...     Hey, this is episode 343 of the one and all the IT in the D show. We actually have guests this week. The one and only both dogs. There's two of you can't be the one and only Ming Chen and Mike Zapcic, you might know them from AMCs comic book men. You might know them now from the proprietors of a share universe podcast studio. Is that who you are? We'll figure that one out or the Ming and Mike podcast. But yeah, this is going to no topics. Is it just catching up with their boys and uh, just talking about, uh, being quarantine. Dave, you may fire one live from our houses with more budget than Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon combined show. We're broadcasting right here from our houses. Episode 343 Bob, the sales guy gave the gig. Randy, I do the Twitters is doing the Twitters and he's with us. Find a saddle, line it in the [inaudible] dot com and give us a do a favor and give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine podcasts are sold. Yeah. And this is where a, I usually dive in and start talking about our upcoming events and all that stuff we got going on. And uh, yeah, there ain't none. There's not a damn one. We are a, we are insanely lucky once again to be joined by two very good friends of ours. Uh, Ming Chen, Mike Zapcic, uh, AMCs comic book men. Did you send them the 40 bucks or was I supposed to cause I a I forgot. We need to get that check right. I got their Venmo. Randy quit eating. Okay. Thank you. That came up on my recommended I, I'm a YouTube junkie and I did go through my recommended videos and actually that your little commercial came up was one of my recommended. I was like, Oh crap, Dave's got to send them a check. Fortunately, gentlemen, we are considered a nonessential business. Ah, and we gotta keep the lights on somehow. And here's the thing. I mean, I get it, dude. That's the, that's the agony that we went through. I mean, it was a vetted a month ago, uh, today actually. Uh, we, you know, I think I was online chatting with Bob and Jamie and Matt, the guys that do our Northville studios, cause technically speaking, there is an exemption in our stay at home order for media companies and media production companies. And it was so, and it was like one of those things where, okay, just because we can doesn't really necessarily mean we should. Cause I mean, God forbid something happens and somebody catches it yet. No, we're done. Yeah, that's what we said. Uh, I went there, Ming, what was it? Uh, actually a month ago this, this coming Friday and Ming's taken copper wiring out of the wall. This kind of a bitch bear. Well that's, that's the Detroit, that's the Detroit boy in him. He's a, he's finding an abandoned structure. And I'm like, what are you doing? He's like, we're podcasting from home. He's like, I'm going to figure out how we're going to do this. We're going to freaking do, ah, bring your laptop. I'm like, I'm not leaving it here. Oh yeah. So, uh, yeah, we just now we've been doing this for a month and you know it's not the same. No, no. We talked about this last week. Have you guys been watching late night? They're like the Conans and Stalins and Kimmel's like it's this, this zero like we have microphones so like our budget's higher. Like they're literally just going with an iPhone. Right.

Episode 342 – Essential Industries, Bars and Restaurants, Making Drinks at Home and More | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 59:02

Week two of the stay-at-home version of our podcast, and we're diving in on what is and isn't an essential industry, pondering if the bar and restaurant industries will ever recover, and of course the news, events, and information that caught our eyes over the past week...   Speaker 1: Hey, this is episode 342 of the one and only IT in the D show. We are broadcasting live from our respective rooms. Apparently we have a Corrine pod and we need to come up. We need to come up with a good name. The pod and teen or the the the corner both terrible. Oh, I know is we have a, we have a higher budget that Jimmy Kimmel and we're going to be, we've got like 25 stories this week. It should be a, again, we're all, we're all in quarantine and we're all going a little bit stir-crazy. Randy's in the white claws and it should be a fun one. Dave, you may fire what's happening and this is it in the D show, episode 342 we are broadcasting live in our living rooms and our basements and our places. Uh, this is Bob, the sales guy. That is Dave the geek. Speaker 1: Randy at do the Twitters is figuring out which camera angle is suitable for him and the D. dot. Com and goose favor. Give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine cloud guests are sold yet. Hey, this is usually a where I tell you what are all of our upcoming events and that kind of stuff. And there ain't none where we're all, we're, Oh, I'm sorry. Ready? Were you waving or what do you want? I'm just trying to fix a light. Oh, I didn't know you were trying to get the mother of God my profile. Yeah. No, no events. We're not doing anything. It's not happening. I looked around, there was some people doing virtual networking and it's, it's a, it's a shit show. They're terrible. They're terrible. Like it's one thing. Yeah. I don't mind. Like, you know, we have a, I have a standing call every morning. Speaker 1: I work with like 28 people. Right. And it's the Brady bunch thing, but it's like there's one person talking, you read the speak, you go like this, and then you go, Oh. Then everyone stops. You know what I mean? Yeah. It works. But like for networking it's like, Oh, here's Bob. Hi, my name is [inaudible]. Hi everyone. Well, yeah, it's hard to have, you know, and yeah, you can't have like 37 random conversations going on in a room cause you no, that's what I, that's why I kind of made, made the thing going, Hey, if you haven't met someone, don't sell them something. Just you know, invite them to do something like this. Like there's nothing, you know what the hell else you got to do. Right. Speaker 1: Next thing is, um, you know, my wife went for a walk. We have a bike path that's connected to like a city park and all the playgrounds stuff's roped off. It's not like we're taking our kids though. Right. But just to go for a walk, get some air. I guess the pads were packed like every, like in droves. It was wait and when was this? This was Saturday. Midday. Okay. Cause like I did, I the weirdest thing, like I ran out real quick to grab some smokes today and I'm trying to figure like, I'm trying to figure out like why were there, it seemed like there were a lot more cars on the road than there have been in previous days. And I was like ours and the road that they're driving crazy, like someone, someone called me and they were driving because they had to go get something and they're like, I just got passed by someone going a hundred miles an hour down 12 mile. Like Speaker 3: it did the same thing. Yeah. Cause I did. I went up to the little seven 11, you know, right at that, right at the corner, 15 mile and, and watched somebody, you're probably doing a good 70, 80 miles an hour whipping through food. And I'm like, w like did I miss an announcement?

Episode 341: Week 1 of Quarantine… Tiger King, Binge Watching, Zoom Chaos | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:21:02

Week one of our socially distanced show as we're all hanging out in our respective houses.  Listen in as we chat about what we're binge watching and how we're keeping our sanity and more... Speaker 1: Hey, this is episode 341 of the IT in the D show live from our living rooms in our basements and we're in our six feet of isolation, I guess. Whatever you want to call it. Speaker 2: How's just yeah, there's one, there's a good 20 miles between us. Uh, all three of us at this point in time. So I think we're good. Speaker 1: We did it. We did have a phenomenal guests lined up. One of the CSOs from one of the big auto suppliers, but he decided to push and I don't blame him. This is a crazy time. So you know what? For the first time being remote, we're going to do this show. Uh, acappella so, uh, you know what Dave, you may fire when ready. Speaker 2: I don't think that word means what you think it means. Speaker 1: All right. Fire when ready. Why from our virtual places. Dave's in the basement. Randy's in the living room. I'm in the living room. This is the one in the living room. So what different living rooms though, because social distancing as 20 miles, 20 miles. I'd be worried if you two are in the same living room. Let's be clear. Hey, this is episode 341 of the one only IT in the D show broadcasting live via zoom. This is Bob, the sales guy that is gave the geek Randy. I do the Twitters is doing the Twitters Speaker 2: and after careful consideration as it turns out, all I want to do is [inaudible] him a zoom and a boom. Boom. Yeah, just really, really Randy and me got our quarantine beards going on. What's going on with you? Dude? I'm getting ready to shave mine off. Like I'm like, I'm right. I got to go T going. I think I'm going to, I might, I just shaved it today. I cleaned it up. Uh, but I'm kinda thinking I want to reset. Like I think I want to go back to looking like a 12 year old. Like, that's a dude. Facial hair is bad. It doesn't do me like it's bad for masks. It's like, what? What are you doing? You're being unsafe. You're being unsafe. Ain't going nowhere. Speaker 1: Hey, find us online it in the [inaudible] dot com. Do us a favor, give us a, like on a social sense, subscribed goes everywhere. Fine. Podcasts are sold. Speaker 2: Yeah, I would, I would love to tell you guys about our upcoming events, but we ain't got none. Jumping in. I can just jump in right over what cheers, everyone, Speaker 1: chairs, chairs, what's going on with meetup. Um, apparently if you've been following us, um, meetup got bought by we work, so we figured, Hey, good tie-in. We have rental space meet, Speaker 2: you know, meet up, does meetings and apparently, uh, they, they go by by, um, well I, I think we've talked about, uh, we work on the show enough for everybody to understand how bad of an idea that was. Yeah. Well, yeah, now meet up is back to being, uh, on its own. So it's probably, I guess nothing's going to change anyway. Well, I mean they will, hopefully they'd go back to listening to like community feedback. Yeah. I mean they're not technically back on their own. They were bought by a venture capital firm or private equity firm. Uh, so I mean, we'll see how it goes. I mean the, the, the text of the blog post that went out, uh, made it sound like they're going to try to get a little bit more attentive, uh, a little bit more careful about what they're doing, which is good. Uh, and we'll see how that goes. Well, the firm was established just buy meetup, so, Speaker 3: Oh, I missed that part. Positive. Speaker 2:

Episode 340 – Managed Way, Internet Saturation in the age of COVID19 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 44:04

Why is okay now I can hear me. That was weird. Sorry. I was like, I've got to get some of them internet. God, I get the Internet's Dave may fire and ready. You are listening to the podcast. Detroit visit www.podcastdetroit.com for more information just like ESPN, we ran out of stuff to talk about, so we're going to be talking about stone skipping for two hours. Just Oh, this is actually technology. Actually this is a topical these days. This is the one only IT in the D show. Episode three 40 podcasts and live here in studio one in the essential podcast. He trades studios here in Royal Oak, Michigan. Bob and we'll talk about that in a minute. This is Bob, the sales guy. That's Dave the geek. Randy. I do the Twitters is doing the Twitters because Twitter's is still a working. Find us online IT in the D.com until it doesn't work. And I remember to give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine podcasts are sold a year. We got nothing. Uh, we event wise. Yeah, no. So our event last week, uh, unfortunately canceled, uh, because of everything going on. I talked about doing a virtual thing and it did. The more we talked about it, the less sense it made people in a Google hangout going, Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey it, no. Um, unfortunately our Ann Arbor event, uh, has now fallen victim, uh, for the first Tuesday of April, uh, with the extension of the closure, uh, out to at least the 13th at the or through the 13th at this point to the 14th. Uh, and, and who knows? Cause now we ha we, we just got, we all just got the same emergency alert to our phone. Dude, that was the first, so I'm listening. I listened to 97 one typically when I'm at what I'm in the car and I'm just, I'm just done blog. Okay. And I heard that was the first time in my life I've heard, and I'm trying to go back my entire life to one I've always heard the test is a test of the emergency broadcast system. I got it through to my phone. I know I did both. Oh I gotta tell my phone also, but it was, it was live over the radio. I'd call it, cut him off cause he's like, Oh my God, that was so loud. And he re-read what he was talking about and that was the first time I've heard it. And it was [inaudible] governor Whitner, you know, you have a 12 o'clock, uh, a nonessential business. It was basically read what it said on your sent to your phone, but I'm like, Hey, that was it cause we were not in hurricane country. That is, yeah, that would have been the first time that I'd actually heard a cut in like that. Cause it's always like it has been a test of the emergency room. I get like no, this was the actual first time I had that. But like apparently it's like super loud when you're a radio DJ and it plays when it takes over you. Yeah. I'm not surprised I guess. But yeah. So I mean I guess the latest update, uh, is that uh, yeah, not all non-essential, but I guess here's my, yeah, so the whole nonessential business thing. Uh, you're supposed to close as of midnight tonight, but you look at what's qualified as an essential business and it's like, well what I like, who's really got a close that cause, well it's, it goes, it goes down, down, down the line. Like so like United shores essential business finance, it's financial services but also distributors and suppliers and people that mean that sub selves is all your it guys, all your [inaudible] food service Telcom. Cause we were worried cause we're, you know,

Episode 339 – C3 Technology Advisors, Coronavirus in Michigan, Events and Bars Closed | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:03

Here we are a few days into the coronavirus chaos in Michigan.  Bars and restaurants closed, and so we've had to cancel our monthly networking event for the first time in 13 years... but our guest couldn't have possibly be more timely as we dive in to discuss remote working, doing things effectively while remote, how to keep yourself on track and rolling... C3 is at: https://c3techadvisors.com/ Live from the quarantine studios here at podcast Detroit. This is the it and the D show. We made it all the way to episode three 39 guests this week include Jason and Taylor. They are from C3. We're going to be talking about worker mobility and remote office technology solutions. And the best part is that we didn't even plan. It wasn't planned like this. No, like that's one of the C3 that's one of their core focuses and uh, I thought what a great time to, I'll talk about it. So we're gonna uh, you hear that sound that those are the VPN engines humming across the U S a as long as they're not running through the West coast Azure platform. Right. I love how they call it a Brown out. We'll be talking about that in a lot more. Dave, you may fire when ready. Welcome back. Thanks for hanging out with us. Hopefully you're somewhere safe in your homes. Barricaded in bubble wrap. How else can you be right now? Good point here you are listening one and only it in the D show. We are broadcasting live here in studio one in podcast, Detroit in-person in beautiful Royal Oak, Michigan. This is Bob the sales guy. That is Dave the geek. Randy. I do the Twitters is doing the Twitters, find us online it in the d.com. And I was a smoker's cough, not a rotavirus cough fight. Fight a sunlight ideality.com and it give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine podcasts are so that's the only place you're gonna be able to find this cause ain't no meetups happening anytime soon. Folks. Uh, thanks to uh, I, the situation as it is, I blame the virus. Blame governor Whitmer blame whoever we want to blame. All bars and restaurants are shut down for anything but takeout and carry out, uh, for at least two weeks until at least at three April 5th. Oh yeah, we are. Uh, and so, yeah, no, we're not doing our meetup, uh, this week at the cozy lounge. It has been canceled. We are sorry. Um, it is not our fault. We are victims. This is literally the first time in 13 years, uh, that we will not have an event, uh, in Metro Detroit for the month or in Harbor for that matter. Well, they had the one a couple of weeks ago. They had one. Yeah. And then theoretically if it ends when it's supposed to, they'll still have their next one. So it got kicked around today on LinkedIn, um, about us having a virtual event and while I go, Ooh, good idea. Google Hangouts and I talked to cause some guys at work and they're like, and that's not a bad idea then I thought a logistics, it's a horrible idea of having 50 people in a Google hangout going, hi, my name is Belle and I worked for this company and we sell stuff and we're awesome. Hi bell. It's like a, you know, like an AA meeting, but it's high bill. Um, so we're, we're, we're not going to do a virtual meetup. I, here's the thing, if you, you know that we've got 8,000 members in our LinkedIn site and we got like 2,800 on our meetup site. And then we've got our website. If you need to post your resume, post your resume posted job posted, job posted intro. If you guys want to have private Google Hangouts or like, Hey, you know, Philip A. Day of, of meeting new people, um, we're going to leave that up to you. It's kind of like how we've done our networking events. Right. We'll, we'll, we'll provide the venue and we'll leave it up to you to, to, to do what you wish. Like I'm not going to lie, I have always adding a message board, a component onto our site just cause I don't want to monitor it and I don't want to deal ...
