IT in the D show

IT in the D

Summary: So what do a couple of IT guys from Detroit talk about when they go to the bar? Welcome to the IT in the D show, brought to you by long-time Detroit IT veterans Bob Waltenspiel (The Sales Guy), and Dave Phillips (The Geek). The duo has been putting on free networking events for the metro Detroit information technology community for over 10 years, helped more than 1,200 people find new jobs, and been featured in local and national news stories and publications for their efforts. After taking on speaking engagements starting in 2011 that helped refine their message, in 2013 they took their ramblings to a broadcast format that has proven to be far more popular than anyone expected. The IT in the D show is more conversational and less instructional – it is far more geared toward entertainment and local goings-on in the metro Detroit area than a deep-dive about specific technical issues. It’s a bar chat, not technical seminar. You’ll hear more movie quotes than MySQL queries and more Depeche Mode than development methodologies. Not that the guys don’t roll up their sleeves and deep dive from time to time, but with guests ranging from local CIOs and CEOs to roller derby girls and pop culture icons from the 80s, don’t let the “IT” in “IT in the D” scare you. Each weekly two-hour show typically includes current events and stories, guests ranging from local entrepreneurs to local IT rock stars to people with great local stories to tell, rants, raves and everything you’d expect from a couple of guys who have known each other and been drinking together for nearly two decades.

Jason Collier, Dogecoin, a 7-11 Overnight Stay, Screech Dies, Barstool Sports and Coney Chaos | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:06:51

Jason Collier is... well, was as of the time of this episode... a police chief and ordained minister in a small town in Texas who not only was married with four kids, but managed to have multiple other women on the side... and it all fell apart when one of them changed her Facebook profile photo to a pic of them as a couple... and one of her friends recognized him and knew his wife.  And it all went downhill from there.  Plus we're talking about a 7-11 you can nab as an AirBnB, Screech dead at 44, Gamestop's CEO praying that the fun with their stock never ends, and the fallout from Barstool Sports hitting Detroit's famous Coney locations.  All that and more...

Shift_Up, Job and Skills Training, The Past Week’s Chaos, Parler Shutdown and Breach, NFL on Nickelodeon | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:25:41

We're joined by our friends from Shift_Up to talk about their latest evolution in job and skills training offered, as well as what they're seeing going on in and around the Detroit area these days.  They can be found at https://www.shiftup.tech/ Then, of course, we dove into the events of the past week... because as much as we try to avoid politics, sometimes it's just not possible.  From the chaos in Washington DC to the online ripples with Parler getting shutdown and experiencing a major data leak, it's certainly been an interesting start to 2021 to say the least. We also chat Transformers: Earthrise, a parallel being drawn between Cobra Kai and the Star Wars films, Quibi's content moving to Roku, and some great things Nintendo is doing to help kids in hospitals.   All that and more this week... hope you enjoy!
