 Our Goals for 2017 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:17:29

2016 is nearly gone, and while it's important to be present, we must look towards the new year and begin planning the next stage of our lives and TFF. 2017 is sure to be an exciting year for both of us, and for TFF. While we're not the biggest fans of New Year's Resolutions that aren't realistic, we do have some pretty specific goals that we want to achieve in the new year. In today's episode, we talk about: * our thoughts on new year's resolutions and goals in general * each of our own personal goals for 2017 * general goals for TFF What are your thoughts? What do you think about resolutions? What are your goals for 2017? We'd love to hear. We couldn't be more excited about the future and what 2017 holds, and are excited to share that with you. Hope you enjoy the episode, and see you next year! -Jackson and Aaron Do you get enough protein? Our new book, Dude, Where Do You Get Your Protein? is available now! Check it out at tfflifestyle.com/product/proteinbook and enjoy this amazing resource for everything there is to know about protein. Want to support the show and what TFF is doing? You can share our content with friends and family if you feel like they could get something out of our message. It would also help us out a ton if you left a quick review on the iTunes store, it really helps the podcast grow and reach more listeners (and it only takes 5 min)! If you want to go above and beyond, you can kick us some change by pledging your support on Patreon each month, which is a recurring crowd funding site dedicated to creators like us! It allows us to keep putting out the free content that you're used to, but helps us to invest more money into improving the quality of the show through better equipment (every penny we make on Patreon goes to bettering our setup to make the content better for you!). You can also visit tfflifestyle.com/support to learn more and make a one-time donation. If you haven't already, be sure to check out our YouTube channel, Thought For Food TV, where we just posted a makeup tutorial. I'll leave it at that for now.  Too Much Fiber for Athletes, Cricket Bars, and China Study Debunked? | Q&A 005 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:12:21

It's time for another round of questions and answers. We absolutely love the format of interacting with our audience and (attempting) to answer your questions! This one was really fun. We talked about a wide range of topics, including questions like: * What are some low-fiber options for athletes experiencing GI distress? * Was the China Study debunked? * What's your opinion on eating cricket bars? * Thoughts on nursing as a vegan? * And more! The focus on this episode was interestingly GI issues, flatulence, and fiber. All important topics for plant-based people. We get into a lot of helpful conversation, and thank you to everyone that asked questions! If you want to get your question answered on the show, don't be afraid to send us an email. Our new book is now available! Check it out at tfflifestyle.com/product/proteinbook to pick it up in time for Christmas and New Year's! Lots of great information and resource for the plant-based endurance athlete. We appreciate the support!  Want to support the show and what TFF is doing?  Harrison Tucker on Plant Powered Long Distance Skateboarding | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:24:28

Ultra-Endurance Long Distance Skateboarding. Yep. I hadn’t heard of it either. This small but blossoming sport - called ‘Long Distance Pushing’ - is one of the craziest things I’ve ever heard of, in such a cool way. This week’s guest specializes in the 24-hour race, completing upwards of 200 miles. Harrison is a professional athlete through and through, following a fully structured and periodized training program, dialing in his nutrition to maximize performance, and is fully sponsored. And to top it off, he just turned 17. Crazy right? Harrison is also completely plant-based, fueling his training and racing on a mostly raw vegan diet. We met up in Boulder while he was out here looking at colleges, and I immediately knew I wanted to do a podcast with him, so he called in from his home city of NYC. In the conversation we talk about: * what the sport of Long Distance Pushing is all about * how he got into this crazy event * what’s involved in his training * how he shifted towards a plant-based diet and how that affects his training and racing * what his daily diet looks like * and plenty more! It was a really fun conversation that helped me get a sense of a really cool new sport, and get to know the super cool dude that is Harrison Tucker. I hope you guys enjoy it just as much!  How to Stay Happy and Healthy During the Holidays | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:04:52

It's the most wonderful time of the year: in-laws, cookies, and the inevitable struggle to maintain your healthy routine. It doesn't have to be this way though. The holidays for some are an opportunity to spend time with family, relieve a bit of stress, and let go of being strict with your ideal lifestyle. For others, they are a chance to focus and double down on getting their ass into gear, eating healthy, holding themselves to a higher standard so that they don't spiral down the path of poor choices. For vegans, the holidays can be intimidating, especially those new to the plant-based lifestyle. From awkward family dinners where the weird uncle always asks about your protein and calcium to holiday parties where the only thing for you to eat is some lettuce and a few cashews. Nobody like that. So, we have a conversation offering up some tips about how to stay on track during the holiday season and not lose your sanity. We talk: * How to approach the holidays depending on where you are in your health goals and circumstances * How to approach social situations * What to do as an athlete in a training cycle * What about food? How to exist as a plant-based person * And more! We also just want to wish everyone who listens to our show, and that you have a very enjoyable and stress-free time. We'd love to see what you're cooking up so definitely tag us on Instagram! We are gearing up for another Q&A episode so send in your questions to tfflifestyle@gmail.com!  Professional Triathlete Antoine Desroches on Fueling with Plants and Enjoying the Training Process | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 57:57

You can't be a professional athlete and eat a vegan diet, right? You'd be totally deficient in the important nutrients like protein and iron. Well, actually, you can not only thrive as an athlete, but also live in alignment of your morals and ethics, such as compassion towards animals and a focus on environmental sustainability. Today's guest to Thought For Food is doing exactly this. Antoine Jolicoeur Desroches is a professional triathlete hailing from Quebec, Canada. He specializes in 70.3 or Half-Ironman distance races, and turned professional last year. Antoine has been a big supporter of TFF from the beginning, and he is completely aligned with the TFF ethos of looking at lifestyle from a holistic and integrative approach. Enjoying the training process. Living in alignment with your morals. Fueling with an evidence-based, compassionate diet. And most important of all: having fun. We nerd out on all things plant-based athlete including: * Antoine's athletic background and what led him to triathlon * Difficulties as an athlete * How and why he went plant-based * What a typical day of fueling on plants looks like during a training day * His advice for new athletes thinking about getting into triathlon or sport in general * His philosophy surrounding functional strength and training * Why it's important to let go of the obsession of weighing yourself and counting calories * What his school and career goals look like * And more! Antoine is one positive dude, inspiring us to push ourselves in training and in life. He's also super vocal on social media, so be sure to give him a follow (links below). Antoine is changing the paradigm of how professional athletes think about food, lifestyle, and training. We are gearing up for another Q&A episode, so send us some questions to tfflifestyle@gmail.com to get your question answered on the show! Want to support what we're doing with Thought For Food?  Dylan Steeples on Mindful Ultrarunning, Plant Power Podcasting, and Natural Hygiene | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:12:25

Happy Thanksgiving! Super excited to share with you a really fun, lighthearted, and different conversation with you guys this week. My friend Dylan Steeples, a plant-powered ultrarunner, new podcast host, and believer in not taking showers, is getting serious about making an impact in the plant-based/vegan space. We connected through the power of social media, which is just super cool, because he lives in New Zealand! I'm definitely planning on going out and visiting him soon. I just felt very compelled to help Dylan out with getting some more listeners to his podcast, the Plant Power Podcast, which you should definitely check out. It's similar to TFF in that he talks about plant-based nutrition, health, exercise, and he also gets into spirituality a bit more than we do. But in our conversation today, we talk about: * how he got started on a plant-based diet * his shift into ultrarunning * how he approaches training for running mindfully * what his experience has been with his podcast and where he wants to go with it * what natural hygiene is and why you shouldn't take showers * and more! We have a good time and some laughs of course, so we hope you enjoy the conversation! We were also just interviewed by Dylan for his podcast, which you can check out here: http://www.plantpower.co.nz/ppp-14-thought-for-food-hosts-on-being-a-plant-based-athlete-exercise-addiction-and-being-yourself/ and on iTunes! We are also super excited to announce our new eBook, Dude, Where Do You Get Your Protein? The Complete Guide for the Plant-Based Endurance Athlete. We've been hard at work the last few weeks on this thing, and it's almost ready for you to see! We have partnered with a well known plant-based athlete blog/website/podcast as part of their Black Friday Fitness Bundle, which will be live on Friday, November 25th. So get stoked! Stay tuned to our social channels for more information, but here's a sneak peak photo: Want to support the show? We have a few options for you! The easiest and most low cost way is to leave us a review on the iTunes store. It helps us tremendously and we love reading the great feedback you guys give. And we may even shout you out on the podcast if it's especially good ;) We are also on Patreon! If you really like us, and want us to continue putting out increasingly better content from podcasts to YouTube videos, please consider pledging anywhere from $1 to $50 per month! You get exclusive rewards and more one on one interaction with us and other Patrons, plus you are directly supporting what we do here. Every single penny we make on Patreon goes back into TFF to make the content better! And finally, just following us on social media and leaving us nice comments is hugely helpful. Check us out on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube for some really cool content that is hopefully helpful! Alright guys, thank you for joining us on this mission to change the world of nutrition and health, it really means a lot.  The Struggles of the Outgoing Introvert | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:00:51

This week on the show, we're doing something a little different. On one of the recent YouTube VLOGs, Jackson discussed how he is an outgoing introvert, a type of middle ground between extrovert and introvert. He had just discovered it after Aaron explained it to him, and the two of us decided it would be an interesting episode to discuss what it's like to be an outgoing introvert. We found an interesting blog post describing the top 8 ways you'll know if you're an outgoing introvert and went through each, discussing our own experiences for each. We think a lot of our listeners can relate to what this topic, and it turned into a full on therapy session for the two of us. We talk about things like: * being selectively social rather than anti-social * hating traditional systems * how our energy levels depend on the environment * how we can be the life of the party, once we warm up * and more! It's a hilarious and fun conversation that we hope you enjoy. If you can relate at all to what we talk about in the episode, definitely send us an email! We'd love to hear your thoughts on the subject, and if you liked the conversation. We truly appreciate the support you guys give us on all things TFF. From leaving a review on the iTunes store to subscribing to our YouTube channel and leaving comments on the videos, it's just so cool to be able to interact with you guys. We are also now on Patreon if you want to go the extra mile and get rewarded for it! Patreon is a super cool crowdfunding website that is made for content creators like us. You kick us some loose change each month, we give you exclusive support and attention. Legit! Plus, every penny we get on Patreon goes directly back into TFF in the form of equipment upgrades to make the content better for you. It's a total win win situation. If you have any other questions for us for future Q&A episodes, or just want to say hi, don't hesitate to send us an email. We love hearing from you guys, and thank you again for listening.
